Root Flash a kernel without flashing a ROM?

Under about phone, kernel version, mine is showing 2.6.32.9 (running Genocide 2.0), so it is up to the kernel developer what shows up in that line. It may tell yo the specific kernel someplace else on the phone, but I have not idea.
Is there anyway to tell for sure that genocide was flashed successfully besides looking at the kernel number? Mine also says 2.6.32.9, but it does not say Genocide 2.0.

When i boot up my phone a screen comes on first that says Genocide 1.1 and then it shows (like normal) the Sprint and 4g animation screen for the phone turning on. Also, all through the boot up process there is a flashing bar-like thing in the middle of the screen.

Then when my phone is on, it looks and runs just like it did on stock it seems. So I really don't no if genocide was successfully flashed or not?

Yeah, on the splash screen, it is showing Genocide 2.0. You could install Voltage Control to see if you can overclock. There is a link on XDA to get the app on the Genocide kernal thread. Or else you can it from the market. If you can overclock over 1000 MHz, then the kernel was successfully applied.

You won't really see much on the surface when you flash a kernel. That will be mainly by which Launcher and/or ROM you have installed.

You can get rid of the flashing android banner on your boot animation by installing a new one. That is a side effect of installing a new kernel...

Find & post your custom boot & shutdown animations & sounds here - xda-developers

You can try here to find something you like...

So the genocide kernel was installed successfully on my phone then since I am getting the Genocide boot screen when turning on the phone?

Also, I do not need to flash any keyboard patches right because this kernel fixes the keyboard skipping by itself?

Yes, and yes...

you can also download cpu spy, free on the market, and that will tell you. but if you are seeing a different splash screen, which with genocide you cant miss it, then you know for sure as well.

When I was not sure if genocide flashed successfully on my phone (but it did), I went back into clockwork and flashed genocide again. Is this okay to do, it will not hurt my phone? Did it just overwrite the genocide kernel I first had?

You will be fine. The only thing it will do is wipe the caches, or at least I thought I saw that line when I flashed it on my phone.
