Yeah, on the splash screen, it is showing Genocide 2.0. You could install Voltage Control to see if you can overclock. There is a link on XDA to get the app on the Genocide kernal thread. Or else you can it from the market. If you can overclock over 1000 MHz, then the kernel was successfully applied.
You won't really see much on the surface when you flash a kernel. That will be mainly by which Launcher and/or ROM you have installed.
You can get rid of the flashing android banner on your boot animation by installing a new one. That is a side effect of installing a new kernel...
