I'm liking it. Way more bling, better UI and a movies tab. Kinda cool. You need to check the option to allow installation of non-market applications.

So this is another "alternative" market like Amazon?
Nope. Official Market. They've just redone it a bit; supposedly to make things more streamline and easier to use. Theres a huge thread about this in our Android Applications forum if anyone wants to read the discussion (also several more links in case the OP's link doesn't work)

Hey Iowa long time no see. :) How have you been bud?

2 questions.

1) Looks like the link is down any other sites hosting?

2) How come this has not been rolled out to phones yet? The last update (2.2 I think) came up automatically. Wonder if this will do the same?

[Edit] Oh ok just read they will be sending this out to phones with android 2.2 or higher in a July 12th article.

Hey bro, been awhile. Good to see you back. Updated the link, hopefully it'll hold up for awhile.

Oh just about to post, found a link on Droid-Life and so far so good. Thanks again man.

Liking the update so far. Now going to look into the movie section.

Be careful with movies. I don't remember the warning exactly but I was warned against movies in market.

Would this new market work for honeycomb tablets? I have the transformer and it cam e preinstalled with the videos app but there is no movies section in the market so I went looking for a market update and couldn't find one and now I was thinking maybe this might do it? What do you guys think?

Edit: it said it installed, but nothin g in my market changed ... worth a shot i guess

There were some pirated movies in the market and they were being removed from the market (and phones? I'm not sure how it works for movies) without any notification or reimbersement. That's what I heard, not sure if it is actually just a twisted rumour though.

Ain't this some #$%^!

Movies from the Android Marketplace wont work on rooted phones. I had to contact Google for a refund.

Isn't the Android expierience all about being open?

I spend $2.99 to try out a service and I am told no? Then Companies wonder why piracy is so high?

They're doing it this way because rooters can get around their DRM schemes (and thus, copy/store the movies).

Android is about choice. You get to choose between rooting, or watching movies (among other concessions). You don't get to have your cake and eat it too.

Did you get a certain error message? They let you buy it but then can't view it, i wonder why they don't just stop rooted users at the point of purchasing if they know somehow. Do yoi know what format the movies are in?

Yeah I just checked it out. From what I can gather, they're DRM protected but I'm still not sure what exactly would make it fail on a rooted phone since usually (i think) the protection is built into the viewer which could be the same on rooted vs nonrooted phones. Looks like we're back to sideloading movies from the PC. :D

Android is about open source freedom for your phone. I shouldn't have to choose between being rooted and watching movies.

Regardless of what "Android" means to everyone preventing all rooted users from renting apps at an incredible high price of $3-4 a title is crazy. I mean even if the worse thing you did was keep the movie, for that price they are already making out like bandits.

In fact when I saw the price range at first for all these very old titles I actually thought it was to buy haha.

And just to add I am sure Google is not happy about this but they were the ones who gave in to third parties to allow it. Is this a new trend we will see continued?

Yeah no way am I paying $3-$4 to rent a movie on my phone. There's literally nothing I want to see that badly.

Yeah, I think its ridiculous that people would part 3 times what it costs to rent dvd to watch a movie on a 3.8 inch screen. Especially since you can get netflix on the phone. Although the new market is way faster and more stable than the last version.
