Swapping SD cards

So i was an idiot and my Ascend dropped in a dogbowl of water, im pretty sure there is no recovering the phone. I am gonna get a new one but I am wondering... how do i load my current sd card onto my phone? are all my pictures saved to the card? how about launcher pro settings, widgets i have dl'ed, clock, text msgs i saved, and apps? are those completely lost?

If you used Backup Assistant - all your items should be backed up (not sure of Backup Assistant is a VZW exclusive). Other than that, it depends on what your phone was set to do, and if you moved apps to the SD card through the menu (if it can).

My TB is set to have the pics auto saved to the SD card, and I manually move all my apps over to it if they are flagged to allow such a thing. Not sure about the Ascend, how it is set up and what user features it allows you to change.

I have a 2gb sd card that came with the phone.I want to upgrade but my friend has a 8gb sd card and his phone is really slow. And what is the class of the sd card that came with it?

The SDcard that comes w/the phone is a CLASS 2.
Your friends phone lag can be attributed to a number of things.
1) O/S
2) # of apps installed & where/how they are stored + the # of processes running @ any given time.

Your friends 8GB card is not in itself going to slow down the operating efficiency of the phone.

I originally owned a Blackberry curve from boost mobile and currently still do.. I bought a Ascend cellphone from Metro PCS 2 days ago.. Now the thing is my blackberry has an SD card in it, and the Ascend phone came with one as well... I have pics and what not on the SD card from my Blackberry phone, could I just put that SD card into the Ascend cellphone so I can have my pics and such? Thank you for the help every one I appreciate it.

Yes. I have mine from my blackberry storm in my ascend. Only thing is, it also still has a bunch of random blackberry crap on it ,taking up space.

You should be able to delete the BB B/S from your SDcard with any of the file managing apps available on the ANDROID MARKET or even w/the stock file manager on the phone.

I know. Just been to lazy to actually do it. lol. Plus, I'm not sure what all is BB stuff and what I might need to keep.

Its always a better idea to transfer to a pc and format the card and then put it in tghe phone. Some phones have the habit of just formatting the card when theres some error on it. Being bb to android.

The stock 2gb card is a Class 2, I am using a 16gb Class 10 card and can't tell the differance speed wise on the phone, but I can tell the differance when I have the card in my computer.

I bought a 8GB class 10 sd card to replace the 2gb class 0.5 :p that came stock with the phone, I'm currently running cm7, what do I need to do? just copy the files from the original sd to the pc and copy back to the new one?

I'd also like to try moving the Dalvik cache to the sd card, (If I understood correctly this should free a little bit more of memory from the phone, thus making it a little bit faster, right?)

I have to do that before or after moving all files to the new sd card? and how do I do that?

regards, Bruno

Ok, so I've been using the sdcard that came with the phone. It's worked fine, I don't keep a million apps or songs on my phone, no problems. I tried to backup different mods, and suddenly found myself out of space. So here's my question...

What should I look for in a new sdcard? I may as well max the gb (is 8gb the max?) unless it affects performance for some reason I haven't read about yet.
I'm pretty ignorant about types (I'm looking for micro, right?) and brands, and I have no idea what the different classes of card are, or if they even matter.

I got a 16gb class 10 Patriot sdcard at Fry's Electronics for around $15. I think they go as big as 32gb.

As far as classes go, I believe 10 is the highest. Then there's sdhc, I don't know how much difference that makes.

Ok, if what I'm reading is right, there is a difference in protocols between sd and sdhc, but the Ascend specs say it's good with both. But, since the sd cards are much lower capacity, sdhc is what I want.

And class is speed class. For instance, class 4 has a write speed of 4 mb/s. So I guess I want class 10.

Ascend specs say 16gb is the max, so I know I want that.

Which leaves me with brand. I've heard about lots of brands that recycle cards, or are just plain shoddy. What brands are trustworthy?

The cheapest Patriot class 10 16gb I found on Fry's is 33 bucks. And it's pretty much the same everywhere I look.

So after giving my google-fu a workout, and actually reading some reviews and preferences from articles and forums, I've decided on the ADATA 16GB Class 10 Micro SDHC. It has a lifetime warranty, and is in the same price range as all the others.

I guess I should have just googled in the first place, rather than be lazy and try to have someone here explain things to me. :)

So i have a 8GB class 4 SD card, and was wondering is this SD card good?
I mean if i can find a cheaper 8 GB class 10 i would so buy it but not sure

SD CARD UPDATE: So, after getting my card delivered, I learned that having a 7 year-old jumping on and off your lap and asking "What's that mean?" in a steady stream while you're shopping can cause you to miss the fact that you're buying a regular sized card instead of a micro. :)

The seller may grant you an exchange,as long as it's unused/unopened.What sucks is that you'll probably still have to add a few bucks on to it to get the equivalent in the MICRO size.
