Root Installing Radio for the Leedroid Rom

You don't normally need to change it, no. I only change mine every now and then.

However, rom developers (who usually have the most recent radio) will often recommend you update. There may be problems when combining their rom with an older radio they aren't aware of, since they haven't tried that combination.

From my understanding, ROMs don't contain radios, as they can't be flashed with clockwork. So unless the ROM specifically tells you to use a radio, you're fine with the one you've got.

From my understanding, the radio you've flashed is the radio included in the gingerbread update from HTC. When you downgraded to root, you flashed the older radio. I presume you'll only need to flash a radio again if HTC release a new one or you switch to a froyo ROM.

You can also match radios to ROMs by flashing a Radio Interface Layer in Clockwork, but I've only just started reading up on that so not sure what the process is or what it entails.

As it stands now, you're good for all the gingerbread ROMs out there.

Just one more question. If I back up my existing Rom and install another one. Does it save everything I have installed on the phone?

Sorry if that sounds a bit vague. I'm useless at putting things into words :(

A backup is a carbon copy of your phone; so if you restore the handset will be exactly as it was at the time of backing up.

To clarify though, whilst a rom backup does backup absolutely everything - nothing you've backed up will be available unless you restore everything. You can't restore selectively. In other words, if you backup rom A and switch to rom B, you can either start off afresh on rom B or restore rom A entirely.

(I know ROM manager allows partial restores of rom backups, but I've never tried that. I've never heard anybody say whether it works or not).

You'll need to use apps such as titanium backup (apps) and SMS Backup and Restore, to backup your stuff whilst on rom A and then use the same apps to restore your stuff to rom B.

The reason I asked is because I wanted to just try out a few other roms.

I will more than likely go back to Leedroid. So with that in mind, will I still need to back up the apps and sms with the afore mentioned apps? Or will a reinstall of the backed up rom still hold them in place?

In that case, you need both types of backup. The full rom backup will allow you to return your phone back to leedroid, restoring all your data as it is now.

However, if you want to try out other roms properly, you're going to want to transfer your apps and stuff across with you. Your options here depend on which data you want to bring to the new rom, but I use the above two mentioned apps (as well as having my emails/contacts restored as soon as I sign into my gmail account again).

Got it.

I've just backed up the apps I wanted. I'm now going to flash a new rom and once I've done that I'll report back as to how I got on.

Edit: All works great :)
 
Check the MD5 before you start I downloaded the radio.img 5 times befor it matched the md5 normaly I dont follow that part of instructions "lucky me"
