GRJ90 Update info 7/25/11

So if it is being "pushed" to random people does that mean you can not manually get it through the system update menu and will need to wait your turn?

Most likely. Otherwise they would of said that like they do with the updates that come that way. Patience is a virtue.

"Patience is a virtue"... so is getting what you pay for and having a cell phone capable of connecting to a mobile network! Especially when you have a family with little ones and count on the services you pay your hard earned cash for, for peace of mind.

Dude, your missing the entire point. The update has started today and will roll out over the next 3 weeks. Your making it seem like nothing is being done about it. You know it's here so wait it out. If not, take it back. Get an Evo 3D or hop to another carrier. Oh, and your not the only one with little ones and having issues. It is not that serious that your world will end. If it really sucks that bad for you then you should take actions and change it.

Listen, I bought a Nexus S 4G for a reason. I love the phone and don't want another one. I pre-orded it, picked it up the day it first came out and spent $400 to get it. I believe Sprint is the least evil of all the networks and intend to stick with them. I just want my phone to work as designed and had some specific questions about the update which is why I posted them on a NS4G tech forum. This forum is designed for that very reason, not for self-righteous assholes looking to spread their contentious, conceited remarks after every legitimate question or concern. It tends to piss me off that Sprint doesn't want to bogg down their network with too much data all at once so they make loyal customers wait 3 extra weeks for proper service. Not sure why you felt the need to share your precious words of wisdom after all my posts but I was here for some tech answers not a lecture.

Can you please verify that the mobile hotspot is still working for free with this update on a Stock, UNrooted Nexus? Thanks a lot!

Woot! Grabbed the update right from the google servers, put it on my phone and just flashed it. Phone is booting back up as we speak. (note, to use the file directly from google you have to be stock and unrooted)

You don't need to wait 3 weeks. Grab the update and flash it manually (if you are stock and unrooted).

Grab the above link I posted and you can use the below link for step by step (just substitute the downloaded file from above):

Woooohooo!!!! 2.3.5.
Thanks you forum and those that posted the necessary links

I want to give a shout out to my little ones!!!

Tone the vitriol down. please. This is a user-to-user forum, not one supported by Google, Samsung or Sprint. Ragging on each other won't bring the update any quicker than by the means already noted.

Civility costs nothing, whereas rudeness always has a price. ;)

So when it says signal strength indicators, is that to be interpreted as:
1) same crappy reception, yet the display will now show more bars?
2) same crappy reception, and the display will now show fewer bars?

Improved indicators does not translate to improved reception. It just sounds like the display will be calibrated a bit better with the actual poor reception.

I will continue to wait for my update and lurk here to review other experiences.

Anyone with the update an unrooted phone: are you still able to actually surf on a laptop using the hotspot (wireless tether) feature?

Some people were reporting that while hotspot still starts up, Sprint won't send any data over it. Is this true? Did the update kill hotspot?

I'd like to hear more verification on this, too. for Non-rooted phones.
