Eris to v2.x, when?

When I called my VZW store, the girl there said the same thing. She said the 1.6 had already been sent out and should reach me by next week as they slowly send it out. Back then, I thought she was just a ditz and knew nothing, but if they told you the same thing...it still might have no substance, but it must mean they had the same source of information, probably from VZW higher-ups.

And what is the real difference between 2.0 and 2.1? What does the N1 have, program wise, that the Droid doesn't?

Well, if we were to get 1.6 we would lose the Sense UI because HTC never put the two together. So let's hope they don't know what they are talking about. :)

The only thing I know for sure that was in 2.1 and not 2.0 is the animated wallpaper junk. It may be cool, but I'm not really that interested in it.

Will we lose the Senses if we up grade to 2.x?

No, that is the reason we don't have 2.x right now. HTC is working on a proper union of the Sense UI and the new OS. I believe the Bravo (new HTC phone coming out) is supposed to have both. It is said that it will be introduced in March. That may also be the reason for delay. HTC could be holding back until the new phone hits the market before they let loose with an update for us.

No, we will always have it. They will integrate it into 2.1 which is why it's taking them so long to get it out for the Eris. They aren't sending us 2.1, they're sending us 2.1 with a splash of Sense. They have to make sure it's smoothed out and there are no big problems with the new stuff they added.

There are 5 home screens rather than 3; there is a different way to bring up the list of all programs; voice enabled keyboard for all text entry. I think that those are the basics.

JB: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?
ME: Hi JB. I am currently a verizon customer and my wife and I are elegible for our early upgrade. We're looking at smartphones and were considering the Eris, but we can't get a definitive answer on when or if it will be upgraded to Android 2.0 or 2.1. Do you have any info about that? Thanks!
JB: It is upgraded to it now, when you receive the phone you will be prompted to update it, when you activate the phone.
JB: How does that soung?
JB: sound*
ME: I thought it was still running 1.5? When did the upgrade happen on the Eris?
JB: It occured 2 weeks ago.
ME: Great! Is it 2.0 or 2.1? The reason I ask is that I really want the google Navigation option. Also, I was curious if, assuming it's 2.1, it has voice to text capabilities like the Nexus?
JB: It has 2.0 and unfortunately it does not have voice to text.
ME: Thanks so much for your help! We'll pop into the store near my house over the weekend. Take care.

OK, did I miss something here? Were these phones upgraded to 2.0?

Unless that guy (or gal) was trained to lie, he's mistaken.

I can only guess that he was confused by the (minor) firmware update a couple of weeks ago.

"JB: It has 2.0 and unfortunately it does not have voice to text" means he would have to have been very confused, as he even says the upgrade number.

:eek:Wow....just.........wow......umm.............yea...........I am actually a little speechless on that one. That person is either a liar or complete idiot. There has been no update. Wow.

I hate to say this, but my experience with Verizon's Chat is 100% wrong when it comes to information! I call if I need information - but in this case I doubt they know or could tell us if they do.

+1

I have actually had them answer another person's question while talking to me. As in they introduced a sentence that had nothing at all to do with the current topic. It was almost like they CSR turrets or something.

I even gave them the chance to correct themselves by saying that I thought it still had 1.5. Where do they get their information??? Is it too much to ask for a company to know a little something about the products that they're selling?

Honestly, I've become convinced that they are not allowed to say "I don't have a clue...", so they just make something up!

That is true of a lot of people, not just phone techs. :(

"I don't know" seems to be worse than swearing, to some.

You're right! Must be an ego thing... I actually have learned a lot by admitting that I don't know the answer to things...
