Root Help/Questions with EVO 4G Flash

I did a quick search and found nothing so sorry for asking this if it has been posted already. But I been up for 22 hrs and im starting to lose my mind.

Basically I currently have service with sprint using my HTC EVO4G. Im sick of all the hidden fees and having to pay almost 50 bucks more per month in bs stuff.

I just order service from Cricket wireless and should be getting my new crappy phone this tuesday. The cricket store said they can flash my Evo to work with their service for $110.00. Which of course if they can do I should be able to do it to no? Well most of the sites I found tell me i need to root my phone which it looks that i cant due to my damn 2.3.3 gingerbread.

So my question is this... who da hell can the cricket store do it if you cant go back to the 2.1?

Also is there a way to make my evo work on the cricket service without using unrevoked? i tried downloading a bunch of apps that let me move files from my memory card into my root system file but they dont work because my root system is locked. i can move files any where else but not there. Maybe is cuz i need some sleep, i dont know... but i know you guys are pro at this so maybe you guys can give me the answers i need.

PS: If you want to skip all the blah blah blah up top my questions are:

1) Can i flash my evo 4g to run on cricket without having to root it with unrevoked3 since im on android 2.3.3?

and

2) does cricket have a magical tool that lets them do it but not the rest of the world?
 
Question1: As far as I know, nope. You have to be rooted.

Question2: I'm not sure about this one. They technically could flash new radios through hboot if they have the secret HTC keys, thus flashing the EVO over to cricket. I'm not really sure about this one.

Thanks Granite for the quick response... I was afraid that 2.3.3 meant i was screwed...

as for 2, i have no idea how they do it... im almost wanna pay the 110 to see if they can do it... i love my Evo... but im curious as to how they do it.

I was looking at the new release of root cracks and sadly the evo 4g was not in it... I wonder if they are just gonna give up on it or still try... you know how fast technology moves... in 6 more months the evo is gonna be a dinosaur well its a dino now lol but its still not extinct yet :D
 
Well, the development community for the EVO is still strong. I wouldn't give up hope yet. I'd bet on the next update for the new root tool to have the EVO 4G included. Might be a day, or a couple of weeks. Stay strong, don't give up hope! :)

im staying strong... xD like i said l love this phone... it was a pain in the butt to get it when i did because no one had it... too bad i wasnt in the forums when i got the phone or else i never would of updated to the 2.3.3... thats what i get for being a noob :(

I stopped in the cricket store today and the guy swears he can flash my phone to work on the cricket service even with the 2.3.3... i have no idea how... he wouldnt go in detail about it... im gonna wait a week or so and see if there is any updates if not i may bite the bullet just to see. If it works im getting a job with cricket just to see what they are doing hahahaha ;)
 
ok now that my phone is rooted and has S-off =) whats next how do i get it to work with cricket lol anyone?

i found a couple of sites but a lot of spam and virus attacks :mad:

one thing that i do need is a cdmd workshop or what ever is called... cant seen to find a trial version or a cracked version that doesnt have a trojan in it LOL
