Help Sensation against SGS2

xavier27

Newbie
I'm currently using a refurbished iphone 3GS and I seriously thinking about switching to android. For 2 months now, I was certain that the Sensation was by far the best device but now with the Samsung GS2, i don't really know which device to get.

Both these devices will be faster than my current phone, so can you guys try to help me!

search the forum. there are already too many sgs2 vs sensation threads.

if you like vanilla android, (which is basically what samsung use really) get the sgs2. if you like sense UI, sensation.

that's a pretty weird thing to say, seeing as how touchwiz is probably the most hated manufacturer ui after motoblur, not to mention quite a heavy addition to vanilla android

If you are using iphone, I reckon you get Samsung Galaxy S2. Because the following
1. More internal memory 16gb
2. Faster and smoother due to large internal memory
3. Lighter phone
4. screen display is more vivid and vibrant

Iphone user is spoilt for good sceen display, smooth navigation, no lack of memory.
So SGS2 will fit u better.

Allot of effort there but a bit one sided with the conclusions and missed of some basic stuff as the reviewer I'm guessing is not familiar with Samsung phones, e.g. holding the menu button down to start a search.

Battery graph is a complete joke, if it was true I would run out of battery every day, I haven’t run out of battery once yet, it always lasts through the working day for me with battery to spare.

The Memory pro comments were funny, Goodly vs Good amount of memory with no mension of the huge amount of memory the new version sense uses.

OK, getting to grips with the Sensation (been Tweeting up a storm, hard to resist making adding a hash tag to that "Sensation"!).

My MHL cables both work (go standard connections).

WiiMotes don't work, didn't expect them to.

BT keyboard works, BT Mouse pairs, but not properly supported.

Phonejoy works (tried out with Mario kart 64 in N64oid, awesomesauce!).

Video playback proving problematic with most of my test files (wide variety of codecs/bitrates/resolutions/audio encoding types), even with Diceplayer, Moboplayer, Rockplayer. Bit disappointing, since it kinda makes the MHL-out less useful. Doesn play 1080p MP4 well though, and Diceplayer can handle some of the MKVs (even the one with DTS sound and a 9500kbps bitrate).

Already had one out of memory warning.

Browser is lovely with the screen resolution, but quite a bit slower than SGSII, and handles flash much worse too. Love the dynamic reflow though!

Sound quality for music is better based on my limited playback so far (via line out to the car stereo).

Tasker more compatible than with my SGSII, although still can't handle picking up calls (not the fault of either phone, its a Gingerbread thing).

For more up to the minute posts follow Twitter (NZtechfreak), also keep an eye on the Clove blog for more stuff (including videos).

search youtube for sensation vs. samsung galaxy s2 and you'll see usually the GS2 wins. I bought the sensation unlocked from expansys and use simple mobile. its month to month, very fast (uses t-mobile). really beautiful.

First part of Sensation Vs SGSII now up HTC Sensation Review Vs Samsung Galaxy SII: Round One – Initial impressions, build quality, screen, benchmarks Clove Technology’s Blog

Also upcoming video showing the SGSII Vs Sensation in playing my test video clips (range of codecs etc - 1080p/720p/MKV/high profile/DTS, AC3, Vorbis, dual audio sound/internal MKV subs, external subs etc).

Also posted this in the Galaxy SII forums, same link if you've seen it both places (but I figured people leaning towards the SGSII would look there, people more keen on the Sensation here).

EDIT: Sense UI demo for the Sensation also up now -

Second part of the comparison going up soon (well, really a primer to the second part, but anyways).

This one will have a video showcasing their relative video playback merits. Lots of detail, and the blog post that goes with it will have a text file available with all the video's properties (video/audio encoding, bitrate, subs format etc via Media Info).

I think it also comes down to personal taste. I find the Sense 3.0 UI to be really outstanding, especially the 3D graphics and ability to switch between different homescreens at the flick of the wrist.

I really want this to be my next phone but am a little worried about the internal memory. I have the Desire and was so disappointed in the internal memory. I was wondering if this was still a problem ?

1gb internal memory for.sensAtion, 16gb for sg2

not quite - i mean they're both true, but aren't referring to the same thing

the sgs2 has a 16 gig chip in it (which is what the spec sheets say as well), some of which is taken up by the os and samsung's bloatware (i don't know how much of it is left user accessible)

on the other hand the spec sheets say that the sensation has 1 gig, but that's what's left of the 4 gig chip in it after ~3 gigs is taken up by the os and htc's bloatware

Hi

Im too have the same dilema. One day its SG2 the next Sensation. Currently have Desire and its been a great mobile.

Think im edging towards to Sensation because I think the SG2 is too big and not comfortable in the hand.

Oh decisions, decisions

HELP ME !!!!!!!!!!

I was interested in the Sensation when I saw the early results from Anandtech but now i'm very disappointed. Updated results, what the hell happened to the performance?

For comparision the Galaxy S II with latest firmware is maxing out at 60fps in these tests due to vsync and Sensation can barely get over 20fps. We know the Cortex A9(CPU) in the Galaxy S II is faster but I never expected the Mali 400MP to be this much faster than Adreno 220.

I don't know what qualcomm oringinally sent anandtech but theres clearly allot going on than just the CPU clockspeed.

Can you try both in a store and get which you prefer.

I have a SGS2 & love it
My wife has a Sensation and loves it

For me I love the screen - outdoors, speed
She loves the screen - resolution

Suspect you'd be delighted with either..
