As we still don't know for sure what this device is, it's open to your interpretation. What do you think it is?

But it also says Stratosphere is 4G smartphone running android 2.3, which can't be a netbook.

I need to learn to read.

Now we just need Phases to delete the forums so I can revote! :p

I think it will be the slider that we saw awhile back since it had 4g. i would have no problem with it being that as long as they bumped the specs up a little. I just cant see them releasing two high end android phones on the same day but hey lets hope I am wrong.

15 of use are either uncannily clairvoyant or else extremely optimistic lol

Agree I think those 15 are in for a disappointment when the stratosphere turns out to be a slider or something else and not the sgs2. I hope they are right but to me it doesnt make sense for verizon to launch two dual core lte phones on the same day. That is what they should do but for them that wouldnt make sense because they want to help their droid line. You gotta love the 1 who voted as a sgs2 3g when clearly in the leak it said 4g smartphone lmao.

I wouldn't be disappointed. I would be downright devastated. I don't think my poor Droid can't hold out much longer, but I will NOT have another slider. Waiting until the holidays for something "bigger & better" is going to really string out my already strung-out Droid.

On your other issue: I would not be surprised to see multiple dual-core LTE phones being released simultaneously. Smartphones are headed toward dual-core... even as quad core phones are in the works and, in 2 years, will be the norm. New Verizon LTE markets are opening all the time, so introducing various multi-core LTE phones on the same day - while shocking to us in the beginning - will soon be so common-place that we won't even think about it.

Yeah it will be common place but right now it isn't because of issues with lte and battery. I think it's smart to release multiple big spec phones together to save returns. But I guess only time will tell what will happen. Not to mention its only a phone no need to get devastated over it lol.

I don't mind having slider if major internal components are the ones making SGS2. I guess Stratosphere is slider with LTE, dual core because it probably needs more room to fit those components. Maybe they will also release slim 3G SGS2 that's close to international one then. But who knows. They might even put out both slider, non-slider with 4G surprisingly (best case scenario). Really all this is still speculation. I guess we will see more detailed info on verizon models by late August at least.

Im starting to feel that those who dont think this will be the SGSII 4G (non-slider) version just dont want to be hurt again :(

But.. I will believe for all of you doubters :D

Stratosphere = SGSII 4G LTE FTW :D

Why would Samsung create a slider for the LTE version? Won't that make it even bigger?

If it was a non-slider with LTE components, I would figure that would make it thick enough without having to also throw in a hard keyboard. It's going to be the size of a sandwich. (and not the Ice Cream kind!)

Here's the picture that started all the fuss:

A closer look at Verizon's Samsung slider with Android 2.3.4 and LTE | Android Central

Slider, Samsung, Verizon, LTE. And nothing around it to set it to scale, so it could be monster thick! I really don't want a slider, but I want an SGS2 bad enough to consider it.

Yeah, I remember that report and saw some other source saying it's got single core processor. Since then I never thought that would be Function or any SGS2 model.

I think this one can be mid range LTE phone replacing Charge and Stratosphere is probably the non-slider dual core, LTE phone. Keyboarded phone rarely becomes big selling flagship model these days, and hope Sammy understands that if they want to put up fight with Bionic, iPhone5.

I sure hope you're right... a lot of us are banking on it.

I think they really should make non-slider LTE SGS2 and it will sell itself even without marketing blitz that Bionic will have. Recently leaked pictures of Bionic look too bulky, industrial to me. Given they put out Tab 10.1 LTE without any thick hump part, non-slider LTE SGS2 should be possible.

The only thing is the stratosphere is only one said to be lte so unless the sgs2 variant wasn't on that roadmap or they are scrapping the lte slider its not looking good for the sgs2 to have LTE since only one samsung on that was said to have LTE.

The tab has more space for parts so that's not a real valid argument.

Well, I think LTE radio chip has certain thickness to it regardless of larger space. It can't be easily thinned down even in larger area. So if 8.6mm Tab can have it then ~10mm phone can have it too.

Oh ye of little faith...

Look, it's completely obvious to the tech community and most users that 1)Samsung is releasing the SGS2 in the US and 2) the Stratosphere is a Samsung phone coming out on Verizon and 3) Stratosphere is an obvious name for the SGS2 variant.

The reasons?
-Sammy sent an SGS2 literally into the stratosphere in July.
-Sammy sent out telescopes with "keep watch" for SGS2 (skywatching, anyone?)
-Everyone is saying so.

If this is not the case, then this is the most massive PR f***up in mobile phone history and the entire Samsung marketing department should be sacked. I'm not saying the the above isn't possible, but given the millions of $ riding on it, it's just not probable.

And if it's not LTE, then the R and D department needs to be fired.

I guess we'll see.
