Root Having serious problems

TKDCaleb

Newbie
I rooted successfully today. Seemed to have no problems. I then used Rom manager to update to the 2.5 of Liquid Thunderbread and it came up successful. However, I then noticed I had no cell reception, it did not receive any signal. I looked it up and saw that a radio update was suggessted. I decided to restore my backup and saw that the signal came back when I did. I flashed the radio to my non-rom'd phone, and now I have no signal even without a rom. Please please please help me.

now that youve flashed radios youll need to flash a newer rom. flash a custom rom,or the rooted OTA rom. it is not advisable to stay on the old rom/radios.

id also highly advise against the use of rom manager,at least until you are comfortable using cloclwork recovery.i dont use it all, dont even keep it on my phone.

theres a ton of info in the stickys(particularly the "how to" one ;)) so id also advise checkin them out :)

Lol, scotty I'm starting to think you have a vendetta against koush. Oh and OP just an FYI. Its become common place around here that with most roms you need MR2 or newer radios. So much so that they have stopped putting that in the rom installation instructions. I would advise updating to atleast a base version of the latest stock rom thats already rooted. That way you have a radio that works for any rom you flash.

no,nothing against koush, hes also responsible for clockwork recovery :)

i just feel it is safer for folks to learn a reliable way to backup/wipe flash. rom manger is an app that requires a functional rom. if youre stuck in a bootloop or a non working rom,the ONLY way to correct the situation is manually in clockwork. ive seen many, many panicked,"im bootlooping and dont kow what to do posts" and now just firmly believe people should learn the basics first.

become comfortable manually manipulating clockwork(or team win now that we have that :D) and then if you still feel the need to use rom manger(for whatever reason) go right ahead. at least you wont panic if something happens :)

+1 Couldn't agree more

I just feel a lot better about having the ROM shut down and frozen when you make major changes. When CWM is running, it is pretty much the ONLY thing running. Nothing else alive to interfere with the process. I feel like it is a best practices type of thing.

To be honest I've always thought of one as the extension of the other. I do think people should learn how to use cwm, but not to the point where I would advise people against the use of Rom manager. I have used it for a year and a half and its been an invaluable tool. Renaming backups, downloading roms/mods.

I'm all for teaching people to value of using cwm. But there is nothing wrong with using Rom manager either. Just my opinion.

i realize rom manager has its fans. that why i said "learn cwm first, then use rom mgr if you want".

i just dont see the point, other than maybe renaming backups. i see it do more harm than good across the various forums ive been involved with. sorry, you have your opinion,i have mine. i reccomend what i am personally the most comfortable with, and am most sure will not cause issues.

Completely agree with Scotty on this as I said. ROM Manager has caused more problems for people then using CWM manually. I just don't see the point of using an app to do something when doing it manually isn't that difficult to begin with. The renaming of backups feature is nice, but I've never used to.
