Root Top 3 ROM's?

Bohn101

Newbie
So like everyone else I had installed the OTA upgraded which was clearly the most crippling downgrade possible. Hindsight is 20/20.

I just came over from WM about a month ago. I had the 2 HTC Touch Pro's, 3 Palm Treo Pro's (awesome and most stable smart phone ever, just a tiny screen!), and 3 HTC Touch Pro2's (lack of speed finally was too much!)

I had all of them flashed, rooted, Hard-SPL'ed or whatever the term is.

I love Google and have been wanting Android for years, but my plan didn't support the newer devices. I finally got a break and was able to add my brothers old EVO. The thing is amazing, and I have and iPod Touch 4th Gen and have always loved iPhones, but not the monthly monetary contribution they require. I actually don't feel the buring desire I've had for years for the iPhone anymore.

So like everyone, I'm eagerly waiting for root capability. The question is, once a root is available (if ever) what ROM should we install first!?

What are the TOP 3 ROM's? I know there are countless, but I know there are ppl out there that have tried dozens and have some favorites. I think I like Sense, so that's worth mentioning. I'm prolly going to look into KingsROM, CyanogenMod, Synergy and maybe a Stock Sprint (without the trash) ROM's.

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i moved your post and created a thread for you. i wanted the other thread to be more on topic. there are many who subscribe to that thread.

IMO:

1- Synergy RLS1 + Godmode
2- Myn's Warm TwopointTwo
3- Any of the KingsRoms's*

(*I only have ever gone for KingsRoms when i see a cool customization that i like but from what i have found not all of them are very stable and kind of slow)

but those are my choices... im more of a sense guy.. never really understood or liked the look of AOSP so yeah lol

EDIT: I forgot lol Welcome to the forums!

Everyone seems to suggest MikRoms but i have not tried it yet i have been wanting too but didnt know which one to do guess ill try the 3Dalpha later hmm i didnt know it was that popular.. i had heard but didnt know that many people were using it :/ lol

^ Yeah I've heard really good things about the 3d alpha.

I would say my top 3...
1. Myn's Warm 2.2
2. CM7 (whatever version, they're pretty good)
3. MIUI (no 4g, but has a lot of cool things added)

what myn's2.2 number one?
i do not know it was so slow for me.
and froyo is so yesterday. lol

[ROM] Myn’s Warm TwoPointTwo - [RLS 5 - 01/07/2011] - More Than Meets The Eye! - xda-developers

theres the link to the xda page for myn's warm TwoPointTwo that was my first daily rom... i went through alot of the ones when i first started (all the ones on rom manager because i was new) and i found that 2.2 was the best running/coolest looking on rom manger SO... i decided to go with that and i kept that for months before i changed.. but i absolutely loved it and thats why i had NO hesitation to jump on board with the synergy roms because i saw myn was one of the dev's on it... but ever since warm i have been a 'mynion' lol you said it was too slow for you?

he is a great dev do not get me wrong. i switched to mikfroyo and then to koni's elite. and man what a difference in speed. so no it was not necessarily slow. but compared to those other roms? no comparison. it is still a good rom though. i love mik's rom they are always super fast for me. i guess i'm a mikhead. lol.

Koni's Elite is what I recommend for new rooters. Yeah, it's Froyo but overall it is a fast, smooth and eye catching experience. I can't wait for his gingerbread version/elite 4

Froyo and Gingerbread are two different releases of Android. Among the other new features, Gingerbread brought transparent functionality to the status bar.

Google has been using these types of names for Android releases - donut, eclair, froyo, gingerbread, honeycomb and ice cream sandwich (see what Google did there?). I wonder if they'll use Jello for the "J" release and have Bill Cosby as the spokesman :)

in addition to what ardchoille said, some of the gingerbread roms also has the new sense 2.1 and sense 3.0 while froyo only has sense 1.0. you should try these newer roms. they are pretty sweet.

lol jello yeah i figured thats what they were thank you to both of you for the help

Thank's for the reply's ppl! I have a feeling that Synergy may be the first. I definitely require 4G since I have it in my house :-)

I pretty much love this EVO. Anybody planning on upgrading to the Samsung Within Galaxy S2?

My EVO plays videos so choppy, anyone else having this problem. It's annoying enough, I won't use it, specially when I have an iPod Touch that plays them perfectly.

Hmm.. Not sure. I want to say I was using RLS2 or something. Whatever was feb. of this year lol. I had to have spent like 2 months on that right after rooting. It was like home away from home.

But, being that it was my first rom, it could have been slow and I'd have never known.

Lol. Yeah, I feel a bit bad for froyo, it has pretty much been sent away from Evo-land. Banished to the world of ...? Droid? I don't actually keep close enough tabs on other phones.

[[I may have not fully understood the question, I was going with top three of all time, so if they were to be current, which I'm now guessing they were, it would change a bit.]]

i might look into it. my upgrade is due in nov. so we will see what they have for the holiday season. my video seems to be working, of course i'm rooted, so my camera might be different.

i was just messing with you. myn's a good rom. and though froyo had some great roms, all good things must come to an end.:)

Honestly, everything other than MIUI is basic Android with maybe a different launcher and theme. There's not much difference other than using the aosp vs Sense dialer/contacts/settings screens. They all look the same.

that is not necessarily true. cm7 has a built in tether option. you can overclock with cm7. pure aosp would be like OMFG rom

@ ExtraCrispy, I definitely get what you are saying. Especially with AOSP roms all based on the CM source, they get a tad - redundant. And MIUI seems like a mile away from other android launchers... I don't know if I'd say they are all the same. I think, if anything, MIUI just shows how damn customizable android is all together.

Ahh. Thanks Ocn, I was trying to think of the pure AOSP rom to try out next, OMFG rom it is!... .or Mik's 3d Alpha... so many choices. And I really want to try out the Golden Monkey too ahhhh.
