Help Backing up apps (unrooted)

I should be getting my replacement phone from vm here in a couple days and was wondering if some people could point me towards a good (preferrably free) app for backing up my current apps so i can restore them to the new phone. (besides avg)

If you have a PC, copy all the apps that you have on your SD card to a new file folder on said PC. You could try to see if Titanium Backup will backup the ones on the phone,but,I'm pretty sure you have to be rooted. It can't hurt to try.If it works put that in the same new file folder. If not then make a note of them to make it easier to remember them all. All your paid apps will be saved. And will be in the my apps section,once you sign in to your google account and allow everything to sync. All your contacts will also be saved as well(make sure you have them import the # from the old phone to the new phone). If they will allow you to swap SD cards, then that's one less thing you have to do.
 
Sadly, i don't have a pc... I rely on my phone for internets (with a little help from my neighbors open wifi connection) atm. So i don't have the option to back up to a pc. I've d/l'd astro and backed up using that. Thanks google! *fingers crossed*

EDIT: The only reason I didn't try titanium is because I saw that I needed to be rooted.

hey,good to know i'm not the only one relying on my phone + neighbor's wifi for internet! :)
 
He sadielynn,didn't you use dropbox somehow to back up your apps when you rooted your phone?

As for astro, i read a review saying it only backed up half the apps.. Is that a common occurrence that anyone knows of?
Also, im not too concerned about the settings getting backed up... I have my setup on lpp backed up so ill just have to restore from that after i get my apps reinstalled. I can handle a little more tinkering to get everything else back to the way I had it before
 
I use "File Expert" as my file manager. It will back up installed apps and/or system apps. I am not rooted. To back up correctly (and thoroughly) you need to root and use Titanium.

I back up my SD card to PD maybe once a month, so all backed up .apk's are on SD and PC. This will also back up any config file for your Launcher (I use GO), making setting that back up much easier.
 
So...my new phone came today and I called vm and surprisingly they had my service switched over within about five minutes (!) As far as I can tell everything is working great. But there is one problem (of course) when I try to log into my gmail for the market,it says "can't establish a reliable connection to the server" I know my 3g is working because I'm using it to post this. Should I call them back? Or just wait til like tomorrow and try to log in again? Lol I'm pretty pissed cuz I can't get into the market to d/l astro to restore my apps

Free version. Can back up all your apps to the SD card. Use GO Contacts https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jbapps.contact&feature=search_result
to back up all your phone book contacts to your SD Card.

Once you are done just transfer the card, go back in to the market and re install GoContacts and AppMonster, then go in to Setting>Applications>Unknow Sources
This must be set to allow you to install apps from places other than the Android Market.
Once this is set you can start importing your apps from the SD card.
Once done be sure to go back in and turn this off.

Yeah so the background data was turned off -__- wtf lol
 
Luckily I was at work most of the night so I didn't have time to think about it, but when I went on break I tried to log in at least 5 times before I checked back here and realized how dumb of a mistake I was making
