Help How to get android market update

the new market is ripping off Windows Phone 7 but i want it so i guess i am going to try the APK and manually get it and hope for the best

Well I finally got it to update.

I went to the web version of the market.

Market.android.com

I logged in.

I dont know if it was just me logging in to the web version of the market, or the fact that I downloaded a game from there, but the Market App was updated right when I
went back to the home screen and noticed the new icon.

I hope that helps everyone else who's trying to update.

Not to mention the new market now takes up at least 7mb! I uninstalled the updates and switched to the website version instead. So I gained 7mb on my phone memory. With the website version I can pinch to zoom on 'sample previews' which I like better than the market app.

That's a good idea. I haven't used the market in over a week, because it keeps doing things I don't want it to do. Like updating itself AND Google Maps AND YouTube without my permission, taking up all that space. Thing is the website version has the same problem as the new market- neither show the newest reviews for any app; they're all random and out of order. Seeing the newest reviews helps me decide whether I want to update stuff or not. The whole thing is pissing me off and I want the old one back.

I could not have said it better myself. I think I uninstalled that damn thing 8 times today.

I got the update yesterday afternoon, the day before the 2.3.,6 version started losing categories and not loading new pages as I scrolled. I was starting to get upset then I got a notification that just said "update available". I clicked on it to see what is was and it just started downloading. I panicked because I had no idea what it was and I am rooted. Once you realize how to get from .. pay to featured .. to free apps, then see where the category list is it will grow on you. I like the way the apps list in two columns and it seems to be somewhat smoother. I could do without the books for sale part. But I guess that's designed for the tablets.

the thing is the books being on the market just create useless search results when you just want apps and don't use google books

books should have just been left in the google books app adding them to the market makes me think google is just making a desperate bid for attention because their book reader/store is getting curb stomped by kindle, nook, and aldiko

I had to go to Marкеt > My apps > Google Map, and unchecк auto update. вut if you reЬoot your phone, I thinк you'll have to go to Marкet and unchecк auto update again. Too Ьad I can't unchecк auto update Marкet app.

Thanks syav, I was just coming to post this exact info.

No you don't, I just tested this. After a reboot they are still unchecked.

Too Ьad I can't unchecк auto update Marкet app.
I went in through titanium backup and froze the Market Updater app and then uninstalled updates for the market. It has been 30 minutes and it hasn't updated itself yet. The last time I uninstalled updates it was fine the first time I opened the market but the next time (~10 minutes later) it had the next market again. I've been in and out of the market 5 or 6 times, installed 2 updates and it is still running the old market (very old market, from before I got my phone in March).

Thanks, but, *all* of my apps, including Google Maps, *had* that box unchecked in the old market; the new market doesn't care- if I go back into the market, even after uninstalling the update and making sure the GM box isn't checked, it updates itself *and* Google maps, no matter how many damn times I uncheck that box, and I haven't figured out a way to stop it. I suppose if I stop uninstalling the market update, it might take, but I really don't want to give up that space... or root my phone, so the new crappy market will probably win out in the end. I seriously can't believe there are people who haven't gotten the update but actually want it. Newer =/= better.

My GM updated itself, so I went to Market and found out my GM auto update box was checкеd. I was thinкing that шhen I had to reЬoot my phone, GM resets itself to auto update. If thats not the case, any ideas what triggers GM to auto update itself?

My phone is not rooted so I wouldn't Ье аЬle to use titanium Ьаскup. Thanкs for the info tho'.

@melim
I decided to кееp the new Marкеt. Lets see if google map won't update itself if I don't uninstall the new Marкеt.

I dunno what's more annoying. The Market updating itself or Google Maps updating itself. With the old Market there was an update option box I could uncheck (even though once a week it would auto update itself any damn way). With this new Market update (I finally got pissed enough to say screw it and keep the thing, even though I prefer the Appbrain app) I swear there is no box to uncheck for auto updating the Google Maps. I let my roommate look for it and he couldn't find it. I even said OK, perhaps we're both just blind so I let my daughter look. She didn't see one either.

I also remember in another post someone mentioned their "My Apps" menu option was gone. I finally see what that person was talking about... mine disappeared, too. I couldn't get the option in the menu to come back until I completely uninstalled the Market update and let it reinstall itself. Sometimes I can clear the Markets data and it'll come back, and other times I have to do the uninstall/reinstall deal.

I've effectively renamed the new Android Market App. From here on out it shall be called... "The App That Must Not Be Named".

My market nor google maps have updated all night. I'd love to find a newer apk for my market. I'll have to look through my titanium backups.

I'll be honest I just wanted to rent movies, I travel so much I need something to kill the time. Apparently the optimus can not handle that, so I'm kinda ticked.. I still like the layout though.

Not a fan of the book section either. Too small of screen to be trying to read a book, I also don't see why someone would strain their eyes on the small text of a book on a phone.

It made my phone go nuts constantly syncing some reason so I used titanium backup to freeze the market updater so no more updated market.

I left my new Marкеt apk as it is (not uninstalling the updates). My google map hasn't auto update for the past 3 days. So far so good. MayЬе that'll do the tricк for stocк phones.

Have you tried going to the my app section and making sure you don't have any apps that are set up to auto update. When done in this manner you will get a notification in the pulldown if you have apps with updates, only when you go into the Market.

Has anyone gotten the android market update yet?

Is there anything I need to do to get update.

I've had to Hard reset and Re-Root my LG Optimus three times since my first Root! But through trial and error I am glad to say I've learned a lot each time.

Now- My Android market was at it's normal preset version 2.1 or something and would not update itself like it had done all previous times I did a hard reset!

It's an easy fix!

Follow the steps>

>Settings >applications >Manage Applications >select All tab >scroll down and select market >clear Cache >clear data >force stop > return to home screen and then re-open Android Market.

It worked for me and I hope it works for you.

:D

I like the new market. My version is 3.1.5
I like the fact that it now supports a pin for purchases under settings now.
