Quick Tips you wish you had known sooner...

Long pressing a keyboard entry area will let you choose the default keyboard.

Discovered this one this morning. Would have saved me a ton of Swiftkey installs.

Another I just found out is that if I long press a shortcut on my Zeam homescreen, then long hold it over the trashcan, it will not only delete the shortcut, but the option to uninstall* the app as well will pop up.

uninstall ;) yea a few launchers has this option now, works in the app drawer too.

Tip I think most would liked to known b4 its needed it use google to back up your contacts. This not only allows for quick recovery of your contacts when you install a new ROM etc, but allows you to sync them to any other android devices you may own or buy ;)

Yeah, I found that one out the hard way, too.

Some more...

Long pressing on a pic sent in a text message (or right next to it sometimes) will give you the option to save the pic.

Backups are NOT a waste of time.

Just because an app or ROM doesn't work the first time you install it, doesn't mean it won't work. Once or twice it's taken me 3 or 4 re-installs before something works.

Too many widgets on an Ascend is a recipe for a laggy phone.

Too many installed apps, too. Especially ones that use data intermittently in the background.

The pictures in the text message thing, it took me weeks to figure that out. It would ask me if I wanted to download it and I had to "download" it too see it. Well after I clicked the "download" I would end up searching the damn gallery and everything wanting to set that pic as a contact pic going "Where the hell is the pic?!" Of course later I figured it out and found the option to automatically download the image in the text so I wouldnt have to click download.

and if you are using any messaging apps like go sms, there will be a folder on the sd card that will say go sms and all downloaded contents will be in there.

If you change your Google password, reboot your phone (if you need to) and when you see a triangle in your status bar, pull it down, tap the error message, and that's how you'll get the window to enter your new password.

This may be well known, but I use 3 music player. If you freeze the default music player in Titanium Pro all mp3s you try to download will give you an "unsupported file type" error.

Huh. I can see why, but I'm still surprised.

So if I delete my "stock" music player no other music player will work correctly? Ive been using MixZing Media Player. Pretty cool but simple player but a big file and have been going thru system items and deleting them because I l ike to have a lot of free space. (I deleted all but the 2 "stock ring tones I use on BobZ's build because there was like 100 of them and deleted all but the 2 notification tones and freed up atleast 5mb, also deleted ADW and using ADW EX, Launcher pro sucks on my phone for some reason, and deleted a bunch of other apps that were useless to me) but anyways so if I delete the stock music player no other ones will work correctly?

No. My music player played my existing mp3s fine but any time I tried to download an mp3 the phone would give me an error. I'm guessing the system doesn't see any app that plays mp3s if the default app is installed/frozen. I went thru multiple mp3 download apps before realizing the problem was mine, not theirs.
This may be just a fault with 3. Other mp3 players may be visible by the system.
By the way, Scur, you inadvertently helped me come to this conclusion in another post. Thanks was given.

To move files between your phone and computer over a usb cable, just plug in your phone and you'll see a USB notification in your notification bar. Pull down the bar and tap it for the option to mount your phone.

The option to keep your wifi on even when in sleep mode is found by going to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Wifi Settings, then pressing the menu button and selecting Advanced.

Funny story: before I got the ascend I had a little kyrocera, it wasn't a smartphone or anything. So when I got the ascend it took getting used to. So I'm using the browser and I see a picture that I like. Usually to save this picture I would have to go to options and "save items on page" and choose the picture. I don't see this option so I start to think it doesn't have that option. Long story short I end up downloading dolphin mini and opera mobile only to find out I could just long press.

To take off a apps defaults you need to go settings>apps>manage apps then you find that app and scroll down to "clear defaults ". Useful if you decide you want to use a launcher you gave buthave one already set on default.

This comes in handy in a variety of situations when you're having issues with different types of apps. BTW, in case you don't use a cache cleaner, you can also find the Clear Cache option in there too. Markets and browsers have huge caches, and clearing them out can make a huge difference.
