That's why I bring my horse with me everywhere I go. This way if I have an emergency (like I cut myself while working in the field) all I have to do is jump on my trusty Nakoma and ride to the nearest medical facility. And you thought the droid x was a big phone to drag around.

I haven't had a landline phone in over 10 years. Saving approximately $9,000 over that time period seems pretty smart to me.
Someone breaks into your house, shoots you in the pocket where your cell phone is and the shattered glass of your phone cuts an artery. Good luck with 911 on that phone.
That's why I installed the best communication device known to man. As a double triple extra backup.......But wait. You are going to DIE if you don't get immediate medical attention. How long will it take the ambulances to moblize from their card game and drive to your house, especially with all the news trucks surrounding the house??
OK folks... time to take a breather! Android Forums rules specifically states that we should attack the issue and not the individual.

So lets keep the tone of this thread in check, OK?

that has nothing to do with the idea that the FCC thinks its ok to rely on a cell phone for 911 services...they were just smart enough to allow it...
as for "whether it has service or not." What you need to clarify there is that it can make a 911 call even if the phone is not attached to a particular carrier's network...if you're in an area without actual service you won't be able to make a call...
that has more to do with the fact that people stopped using them and they were not bringing in any money...
should you be able to make a call to 9/11 from your cell? yes i would agree with that...
what i don't agree with is the idea that it would be OK to rely solely on your cell as your means of communication with emergency services...there are too many areas in this country where a 100% functioning cell phone cannot obtain service for it to be considered reliable enough to completely abandon the landline...
my X works completely well in regards to cell service...i have never experienced any sort of signal loss requiring a reboot to get back...but still there are plenty of areas where i can lose a signal, or have poor enough signal that i can sound like garbled static on the other end...

I concur with this statement. The system files are Gingerbread. The kernel being used is the same kernel that was used for Froyo. The kernel itself doesn't fall into the 'sweet dessert' naming convention. It's just a piece of software. The hardware OEM may make tweaks to the kernel with each software release though. For example, stock GB has the bright LEDs and Froyo does not.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was told it was Froyo but now that you've broken it down more, it's easy to see my misunderstanding...Froyo kernal, GB files. I appreciate the info and clarification.![]()

Has anyone installed the update yet? It's available on the TBH app and I've seen it online as well. You need to sbf back to Froyo though I believe in order to install it. I'm interested in seeing if it fixes some of those annoying GB bugs.
