Root Will unrooting my Evo fix my 3G and 4G problems?

When I got my Evo in April, my 3G speeds were constantly above 1.5 Mbps and my 4G was very reliable.

Then, within a week of rooting my phone, my 3G speeds became extremely slow, averaging around .3 Mbps with my max speeds being at 1 Mbps, and my 4G became extremely unreliable.

Now, when I use 4G, my phone stays connected for about a minute but then it disconnects, which is something that wouldn't happen when I first got my Evo.

I've tried a lot of things to fix my speeds, including trying different roms, doing the 3G fix where you change two things under "##data#" and then do a data restore, but I still have these problems.

Would unrooting my Evo and then rerooting it fix these problems?

i doubt it. as far as your 3g goes read this recent thread: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/392681-certain-roms-give-better-signal-3g.html. i agree with mr ed that it cant be hardware that does this. have you updated your radios? what about prl and profiles?

My problems started mainly when I flashed the all-in-one radio update .zip.

I've tried reflashing the versions of the radio, Wimax, Pri, and NV that my phone was using when I first got it, but I still had my problem.

I've also updated my Prl and Profile several times, but still no luck.

Should I try unrooting?

i think i meant to say is that signal strength cant be caused by software. so i don't think that unrooting will help. when you flash or even unroot, your radios will not change. so i doubt that the issue will be resolved by unrooting. what radios have you tried?

My phone came with the radio version 2.15.00.11.19, which worked great.

Then, around the time that my 3G started to go bad was around the time when I switched to the radio version 2.15.00.05.02.

However, when I reverted back to 2.15.00.11.19 by flashing that .zip, I continued to have horrible speeds.

Yes.

I've also confirmed that I still have my Wimax RSA keys.

have you called sprint and see if this is a tower issue?
another thing you can try is to flash just the 2.15.00.11.19 radio again.

I've also tried reflashing just the radio.zip, but still no luck.


With unrooting, I'm going to try it just to see if it would help. However, if I unroot, will I be able to unroot to the 2.2 Evo version instead of the 2.3 version, so then I can still reroot my Evo.

yes you can with froyo. the ruu in the dummies guide is for froyo. just make sure not to update when you are unrooted.

In the "rooting for dummies" section, they have a section on how to unroot, but I don't think it's the RUU method.

With the RUU method that you're thinking of, is it the method where you have to use HTC sync, or is it the method where you just have to flash two .zip files?

most people here refer to a ruu as using it on your pc but also referring to the PC36IMG as well.

edit: so the PC36IMG file in the guide is that of 3.70 stock ota
