Official HTC Inspire Gingerbread Update Rumor Thread

This is EXACTLY the same problem im having. I posted it about it earlier. My dialer usually sees 20% usage whenever the problem starts up. Sucks there is no permanent fix jus yet. We just gotta wait i guess.

Yep! Same here.. dialer was what used most of my battery life.... hopefully they fix this soon.

I upgraded to Gingerbread 2.3.3 last night on my HTC Inspire 4g. I downloaded the file from HTC.com. It took about 10 minutes like it said. My phone seems to work fine, now all I have to do is get all my apps reloaded, The one app I purchased showed up on Android Market (JuiceDefender) but now I wonder if i'll need it with the improvements on Battery usage in 2.3.3.

The best thing I've seen so far is now you can download non-market apps, Like those on Amazon marketplace. Unknown sources option is now available in application settings. Thanks! There was supposed to be a way you could get this turned on, sans Rooting, but required getting to the right person at AT&T. I now can get my free app of the day on Amazon!

Yikes! I'm glad I dont get many calls. lol

Yea, sucks to have to restart your phone after every call. Everyone was talking about how much their battery life improved, and I think this is why some of us aren't seeing that increase.

Wonder if this dialer thing affects everybody.

My battery life sucks compared to before my GB update. Before GB, I actually had terrific battery life!! I know many haven't been able to say the same, but I loved being one of them. Now, like yesterday, I made two calls (about 3 mins each), sent/received about 50 texts, zero internet usage, wifi off, network mobile off.... and my batter went down to 15% usuage warning! I use to make it a day and a half with little/medium usuage. Now, I get to about 6 hours.

Edit: I meant to say as well, I noticed the dialer is eating up my battery as well.

Sigh.

I did the GB upgrade yesterday, and everything seems to run ok, except now the home screen clock/weather widget functions inconsistently. At times it says there is no weather info available for my location, and then when I tap the widget and it goes to the weather screen it says "unable to contact location services to update your current location". However, I just did an experiment and turned off the wi-fi, and the widget seems to work normally over the mobile network. I never had this issue when running froyo. Anyone have any ideas what could be the issue?
Update... seems to be working ok now. Though it sucks I haven't seen any improvement in battery life like others have.

So is anyone having any problems with the market? With GB, I got the new market as well. I cannot download anything using data but I can just fine on wifi. My internet, MMS and everything else works just fine. It doesn't make any sense? I also have a bunch of apps that are installed yet are at the bottom of my apps page saying they aren't installed. If I open them from there, I have the option to open them meaning my phone knows their installed. Not too happy with GB...

I still have the old market... How to get the update?
com.android.vending-new.apk is the name of the new android market program (apk) file. Google it and you'll find many sites having it for download. I downloaded and installed it after I updated to HTC Gingerbread manually and it seems to work OK. Really do like the new look. The updates happen differently, but once I got the hang of it, worked ok as well.

you may have a faulty battery...GB improved my battery life significantly

i did my update over the air....battery life is wicked!!!!love it....but the one thing that i did notice, and let me know if anyone is having the same issue......when i go to send a text...3\4 of the time it shows just the recepients number instead of contact name...weird!

Several of us are having this texting issue.

I can't seem to figure out what the issue is because for me, if I edit the contact and add a + in front of the phone number if there is not one, or take out the + if there is already one (not sure why some have it already and some don't) then it seems to add the name to the texts..... and oddly, some will show just the name, some will show the name and the phone number together. No consistency in how my text show up... and yet all my contacts look exactly the same in how I entered all their info.

Oh and over at XD, or is that DX? lol.. Im a newbie.... there is a post that addresses this issue and they say that it's being worked on.

Nah I think the battery is fine, it was great before the GB update and there is talk about others having this same issue after the update.. so it's just a matter of being patient to see if they come up with a fix for it. In the meantime, I just reboot my phone after each call (which isn't very many really anyways...).

However, yesterday, I received 4 calls and made 5... very short calls all of them... a total of maybe 16 mins and many texts... and maybe 6 mins of internet or so, and my battery has been off the charger since yesterday at 5am and it STILL is off charger (26 hours later), showing slightly less than 50% batt left. Yay.

So sometimes its an issue and sometimes it's not.

Hello guys. I received my Inspire yesterday. I bought it on amazon, I live in Honduras. The phone is unlocked and I can used it with no problem with my local service provider. I even made a clean up of the phone and I didnt lost the unlock. My question is, if i update to GB will I lose the unlock functionality? The phone is not rooted, I can still see some AT&T widgets and apps.

It'll still be unlocked, don't worry.
I live overseas, and have done the update in 2 inspires, running different carriers, just as before the update.
You`ll still have the AT&T apps and HTC's widgets, of course.
