Official HTC Inspire Gingerbread Update Rumor Thread

Okay, I got the update, and everythong seems fine, but the download was only for 105mb. ??? I don't think I'm missing anything, though.

got my update ota everything seems to be running smoothly had to check for it myself. outside philly. ringtone was set back to att original ringtone. there's also an update to a new translate and battery widget.

Says I gotta wait another 21 hours before I can check again, bummer. I was looking forward to GB. I did get the marketplace update though.

Just did the update on a friends Inspire, which wasn't getting the update OTA.
Worked just fine with HTC sync, took about 10 min, maybe less.

I downloaded the .ruu file from the htc site yesterday, downloaded the new sync, but when I go to launch the .ruu file, it does nothing, any ideas? I wanna try to do this manually... I appreciate the help guys!

getting ready to manually update.....im certainly not a genius so i cant understand why it would take them so long to release the darn thing to everyone

Did you install the new sync and put your phone in sync? I believe you gotta have debugging mode on.

I finally got it. I had to redownload the GB file and then it worked. Go figure... It's nice to be updated. New OS, new otterbox for the phone, a good day. Workvtomorrow, I may end up talking to one of you folks who have Verizon. Thanks for the help guys.

Wife's Inspire now updated as of this morning.

From 2.2.2(?) --> 2.3.3

We'll see how many compliments/complaints I get from her throughout the day.

Got my update OTA today and I have to say that it makes me realize that I dont like Sense as much as I thought.

I like the Mail app and some of the random Sense goodies like flip-for-speaker, flip-for-silence and others. Quick settings is kind of redundant when they already have the toggle widget and it takes fewer steps to get to "all settings" if you just do it from the homescreen. The stock GB keyboard is way better than the HTC keyboard im (i make WAY fewer errors).

Most people have been talking about improvements in battery life so that is something that i will be looking forward to. But overall GB has not proven all that special to me.

i dont like that we missed out on some of the cool and even gimmicky stuff i was looking forward to with GB. Also, the new app drawer thing is greatly unintuitive and just plain annoying. I really wanted the whole "shutting off a tv screen" affect for locking and I really think we should have gotten Sense 3.0

If you don't like sense UI, try out launchers from the market. There are even copies of the original GB launcher, 3d drawer and everything.
I personally was looking forward to the update, side loading apps without having to clean any data or rooting, battery life is indeed a lot better, app drawer is in pages but flows much better, takes some getting used to of course, but its nothing from another world, quick settings in the notification bar, weather sound effect on unlock screen...
I have to agree with you about the keyboard, i make much more mistakes in the HTC's then on GB's. Even though they keys are huge on the 4.3in display, i feel I'm kind of cocky typing on it.
Overall I'm pleased with the update, could have implemented the awesome "TV off screen effect", could have the orange "end of page scroll effect" and some other original GB's effects, but i think HTC's design is pretty rad.
Our phone is supported by Cyanogenmod, I'm not flashing any ROMS in my device anytime soon, but I've used Cyanogenmod before, and its a heck of a ROM.

Mine just updated via OTA... Right now I'm running Swype but would like to try out the GB keyboard you guys seem to like. However, the only choices I see are "Swype" and "Touch Input." How do I activate the GB keyboard?

^^^ gingerbread keyboard doesn't come with gingerbread os on htc phones, install it from the market ^^^

you guys above who are using the gingerbread keyboard, does it seem like it slows down in typing in some apps a lot? esp after our gingerbread os update? I've used this kbd forever and I don't remember it doing that before.

specifically text boxes on a webpage, thats the one i can think of now, it's real slow to type in there where the htc kbd isnt.

It goes fast as normal in sms/gmail/others

Only problem I've had so far is with skins. I had mine set to slate, and most of it is the same. But the browser just looks like the default HTC skin, as well as the market. (Green instead of blue, among other things)
Anyone else having this issue?

Guys, if you care about battery life and uses the call feature, do not upgrade:

Issue 17383 - android - Dialer stuck in partial wakelock - Android - An Open Handset Alliance Project - Google Project Hosting

IF you receive a call, the dialer will have a 97% battery usage and drains your device in half a day!!! The only lousy option is to restart your phone. I do not know of new solutions, but please vote for it to be resolved as it affects all version of 2.3.3. Ginger is spicy!!!

This is EXACTLY the same problem im having. I posted it about it earlier. My dialer usually sees 20% usage whenever the problem starts up. Sucks there is no permanent fix jus yet. We just gotta wait i guess.
