Stratosphere Release

I'll take the slider if it's a dual core, but no way will I take another single core. My Infuse is going back on the 20th, so I guess I'm going to be without a phone for some time. (Yes, I'm with AT&T, sadly). 512mb ram is just way too low for my standards. I'm usually running in the 200mb zone with nothing open, it's stupid.

That will be the case on all phones that have skins since the skin takes up some of the ram. I think it should be dual core slider but then again I dont think verizon wants to undercut their bionic sales. I guess we will see soon enough.

I thought Cellophane was Korean 800MHz LTE rather than US 700MHz?

Technically, it is. But the connection some are making is that Samsung has removed the home button before on handsets released in the US, while it's kept it on handsets for Europe, Asia, etc.

It wouldn't be too complex to change the LTE chip from 800MHz to 700, I don't think. At least it's got LTE capability.

The sudden sightings of the Celox in the wild, coupled with the announcement on the 29th, makes for some optimism, in my opinion.

Four and a half inches of SuperAmoled Plus gorgeousness? LTE? 1.5 GHz? A GIG of RAM and 2 cameras? An unlocked bootloader?

THIS is a phone I will wait for. And wait. And wait. Dual-core, at this early stage, is little more than a battery hog. There's just not a lot of need for it now or for the foreseeable future, not even with ICS.

And they want me to buy a Bionic because it's coming out first? :p

Huh. "Foreseeable" is an interesting English anomaly in that it has 3 vowels in a row. Sorry, just a side observation... I still want this phone!

No, it's not. Actually right now you could say that single-cores are the battery hogs. Current dual-cores are apparently able to complete tasks while throttling to lower clock rates (and therefore lower voltage), using less power.

The newest ones are. No indication that current and imminent offerings will have dual-core processors that independently clock and underclock. Next year may be a different story. I'm willing to be corrected if wrong (I'm a cell phone enthusiast, but not a chip expert).

Well regardless, the Celox is running on a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor.

Samsung Celox 4G LTE Galaxy S II Spotted in the Wild | Android Community

I'm thinking the specs on this is what we can expect to be announced for the US version on the 29th.

I'm pretty psyched about a possible 2MP forward-facing camera. . . I have no idea why Moto would go with VGA (0.3MP). It's a decade-old technology.

I have a feeling a lot of people will be disappointed come the 29th and all they announce is the slider or they announce a lte version isnt coming until much later on.

I sure hope to hear better news than that on August 29th. I'm giving my poor Droid about 6 weeks to live. I needs me a new phone by the end of September, and the sooner the better - this thing is really starting to drive me nuts! :(

Samsung Hercules and HTC Ruby Launch Dates Revealed
This isn't looking good for verizon getting their version anytime soon if it does have similar specs.

Wow. This is disgusting. October 26??? So I guess Samsung's assertion that it would "be released sometime in August" was a total lie. Surprise, surprise. I have no idea what happened this year that made Moto and Samsung drag their stupid hooves so long.

Given the fact that we STILL haven't seen anything for LTE pass through the FCC, I'm not encouraged either.

If it doesn't come in September, that's it, I'm going with the Bionic. I really, really would have preferred the SGSII's superior screen, faster processor, and beautiful thinner design, but it's not worth it to me to keep waiting.

I have to focus my work days on something more important than constantly researching the stupid phone and refreshing this forum.

Amen to that!

But isn't the Hercules an entirely different phone? I mean, still SGS2 but notably different than the other three? I'm not sure I would make any assumptions on Within/Strat/Attain based on the Hercules, even release dates.

Not really.

4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display
dual-core processor at 1.2 GHz to 1.5 GHz (Snapdragon)
1 GB RAM
Rear 8 MPx camera
front-facing camera (probably 2MP)
Android 2.3.4
Touchwiz interface
Running on their version of 4G.

Seems like the perfect SGSII, if it only worked on LTE.

Hopefully they up the resolution. I can't imagine WVGA on a 4.5 incher. Seems like it'd be pixelated. Of course... the pentile on the Bionic... yeesh.
