Root cap buttons in recovery

I don't know if anyone else noticed, but when I rooted my GB evo with the revolutionary tool the other day, I noticed that in their modified version of CWM recovery I could use the menu key to scroll down, and the search key to select. ......If this is possible, and indeed already implemented by a few hackers in their spare time, why the **** does the official CWM recovery not have this??? I'm sick and tired of wearing out my volume keys scrolling through huge lists of files. If we can make use of the touch screen buttons, they should be doing that! I sent a polite email to this effect to the rom manager team as soon as I noticed, but have received no reply. thoughts?

nope such luck none of the recoveries have that option. if that would be the case then there will be even less internal memory as it needs to be programmed to be such. your phone has three mini os systems that are running. you have your phone(android os), hboot, and recovery. by adding more keys and touch screen means more memory and there is just not enough to go around. so the devs try and keep it small and simple.

Right....but the revolutionary version of clockwork mod DOES have this and it DOES work. Therein lies my confusion.

really? that is news to me. i might have to unroot and root with revolutionary and see what that is all about. interesting. looks like another weekend project.

I guess we can't get the new cw recovery without running revolution. I'd like to get a PC36IMG and flash it to see what's new. I still use cw 2.6.xx.

Question: Could someone just dis-assemble the revolutionary files and take out their clockwork? Or does it use the revolutionary to just download the file... I'm sure there's a way to intercept that download if one was so inclined....

I'll just wait until cw releases it officially. I'm not taking any chances with a hacked recovery.
Wait I take a chance every time I flash something with cw.....

Team Win Recovery has the buttons enabled but what they do is home=home recovery menu, menu=advanced menu settings, back=go back one menu, and I'm not quite sure what search does, it may select.

Why would you unroot and re-root ?

Then use USB Fastboot mode to flash the .img ..

Or do the evo and evo 3d vary that much??

fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.5-supersonic.img

just so that i can check out the process for knowledge as i have not tried to root using revolution. i only based the guide from what i have read and assumed some of it as well. also i would like to know what the new version clockwork mod is all about.

Unfortunately that is not the version that comes with revolutionary. It is version 4.0.x.x

Maybe that's the issue. Once I rooted with revo, I booted into the OS and installed rom manager, which prompted me that I didn't have CWM recovery installed. The version of CWM provided by rom manager is still 3.0.0.5. Maybe 4.x has this functionality? If anyone knows how I can get ahold of the version that the revo tool uses, let me know. I'd use that and tell rom manager to go screw itself.

try running revolutionary again. and select yes to download clockwork mod i beleive that should work.

edit:it will erase any data you already have setup.

updated to CWM recovery version 5.0.1.0 just now, and it does have this capability! Menu button to scroll down, search to select. no more worn out volume keys. huzzah /necropost

edit: also, home scrolls up, and back goes up a directory
