Root Big Difference in Data Speeds

Has anyone tried the app "MSL Reader" from the market? Used to use that on my EVO all the time.

You have to be rooted for it to work though I believe.

tried this. It did nothing for me. My OV would get full bars in my hosue and 800-1300kb down, my triumph gets 2 bars and recently only been getting 100-250kb down. What gives? I know its reception is a little worse than the OV but that bad of a difference? Come on!

Im on PRl 1115. Didnt notice a difference after i changed to that either. I live in Riverside, California. Thats Southern California, near the Mira Loma area in Glen Avon. Zip code is 92509. What PRL do you guys suggest?

Added the ro.product.rat=EvDo only line, without changing the PRL, and my speeds have pretty much tripled. I'm running anywhere between 900-1100kbps now on multiple tests. Thanks a lot!

Ur welcome. I'm glad it's helping. Funny it was one of those "hmmmm let's see if this does anything" moments...lol.

Tried 01120 last night... worked for about 3 or 4 minutes, then I couldn't get data at all. Now I have 01119 installed... haven't noticed much of a difference in speeds.

Did you guys put the new line at the end of the other ro.product lines or the beginning?

Is the only function of the ro.product.rat=EvDo only to prevent the phone from dropping down to 1x mode? Because mine still does that sometimes after adding the line.

I didn't even think to save the stock PRL, nor do I know what number it is. I just went from 01115 to 01120 on my phone. Will give this a try for a few days.

I'm with him on this. I put the line at the very end of the file and could no longer get data. I had to paste the original file back and restart the phone to get data again. Where exactly do you write this line at?

how come i cannot save edit the build.prop with es file explorer

i look at the details on that file and its says its not writable....

root explorer isnt free.....

You have to give permissions to es explorer on the settings of the program

Well originally I had put it at the very end and had no issue at all getting data. Im not sure what you might have done. Now I have it up with the other product lines as suggested by idbl_fanatic

Hey blackfrost I didn't change my prl at all and I'm trying to just add the line like you did. Where exactly did you put that line at?

OK so I put that line in the ro.product are right before the line that says wifi and my connection has not dropped to 1x but my download speed has dropped to like 30kbps. If I have to change my prl code, how do I go about doing that via a Mac? I have a g4 and g5 ppc. Am I screwed or what?

I put it at the end of the other "ro.product" lines, right under the bottom one. Still clocking in some good speeds. Then again, I never really had an issue with 3G before (apart from it being slower than it is now) so I don't know how much the line really does if you're not getting much 3G signal as it is.

Did you put it before the line that has wifi in it? Can you copy the line you put it after and paste it on here? I know I'm asking a lot but it would be extremely helpful.

I appreciate it. I'm not noticing an increase in speeds but it seems to stay 3g instead of 1x

to be honest I think its the combination that helped me. The PRL locked me on to a closer tower and the Prop mod keeps the 3g steady.

The question is can I change my prl with a Mac? Is this even necessary now that the source code for Motorola Triumph is out now? I just know that Isaac is about to tear that cm7 up!

I don't think it's possible with a mac. I tried to change the PRL on my windows computer, but it had a com port error. Now that the source is out, I think I'm just going to wait for CM7. I can't wait and I know Isaac and the other devs will do an awesome job.

So many PRLs and no description of changes.

What are the differences? Which is the best? Has anyone compiled comprehensive results or have a link?
