Root new and trying to root gingerbread

Newbie
going through the steps to root. But i can't even do this step.

I get the file on my computer and I can unzip with IZarc. but I dont know how to get to phone. I have it hooked up via usb. Also there are two folders.

This is nothing like when I rooted my Nook color.

do not unzip that file. the only one that needs to be extracted is the revoltionary file. if your phone is connected to usb select disk drive and transfer the file to the root of your card that means no folder just on the card.

I would also like to know where to go from here. Like apps and roms and kernels. I dont really use as compter, but I would just like faster processing and get rid of the bloatware.
 
well read the stickies we have at the top of the forum is a good place to start. there is the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/284413-roms-kernels-download-page.html sticky that has all the roms and kernel currently out. i would recommend that u try mikg2.45 first then go from there. also the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/395962-guide-rooting-gingerbread-revolutionary.html has some info on life after rooting. main thing is to read and ask questions here. also read up on kernels they will help you save battery life:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/389360-kernels-dummies.html
 
tried to look for mikg. cant find it. on the list of kernels and roms. Just a bunch of numbers to me.. doesnt say what they do
