$299 for this phone? Destined to fail.

How much bigger should a Cell Phone screen be though? I mean, their already getting huge ... if people always want bigger screen we're soon gonna be carrying phones the size of a tablet on our hips.

Everyone is different. For me, it's when I can no longer put it in my jeans pocket. I'm thinking probably 5 inches or a tiny bit bigger. After that I'll go to my iPad. (Yes, I love my iPad, I don't care how stupid Apple is.)

There is absolutely no news of Vigor getting LTE.....

Celox is not even rumored to be released anytime soon, so i wouldnt hold my breadth. That only leaves LG Revolution 2 which i doubt will be released this year or will suffer significant battery problem. i honestly dont see how that phone is going to support 1.5 Ghz when single core is has the crappiest battery length unless they have done extensive R&D. That is why i think i dont think it will be released anytime soon.

Vigor is said to replace Thunderbolt by sources. If it's not LTE, that doesn't make sense. According to the last leak on Verizon MAP list, it's supposed to drop on early Oct and Revo 2 on late Oct. Celox might not come to US at first, but it's coming in Asia on Sept according to asian sources. Point is they did their homework on dual core LTE phones.

See, I can't stop you from doubting until you see it. But I wouldn't massively underestimate other manufacturer's R&D and development efforts, schedules like you do. If that's true, Moto has to rejoice big time as they will be clearly ahead of others by like 6 months. I don't think that's the case. They were losing money this year while HTC, Samsung were making record profits.

From my post above: "I do like the increases in size we've been seeing, to a point; I have a Galaxy Tab for use when I want a nice big screen." ;)

I wasn't directly referring to you, if it sounded like it, I am sorry. I am just speaking in general, people always "ooo bigger screen this bigger screen that" ... how much bigger should it get before we carry tablets on our hips? lol

No apology needed, amigo. I took you wrong, thinking you'd missed the part I re-quoted there. :)

At any rate, you're right.. the sizes are probably going to reach a point of diminishing returns pretty soon, as many folks do shy away from bigger ones.

I have an ideal I'll purchase, about 5" top to bottom and 3 1/2" side to side.. any bigger than that and I'd just use my Tab. ;)

It's like if I'm thinking of buying a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, run of the mill house for $150,000 but suddenly hear that there is a neighbor down the street that will most likely sell his house in October for the exact same price but he has 3,000 more square feet, with prettier and new floors, a bigger backyard, and nicer curb appeal, I'm not going to jump on the first house just because it's a nice-enough house. I'm going to wait and see, and if the second guy decides not to sell, I can always slink back and crawl into the crappy first house.

The real estate analogy does not work, mainly beacuse the first house may not be on the market at the time you need to switch back. (Currently in the process of buying a new home my self.)

way i see it, we are both making speculations with both legitimate reason. For the reasons, i have stated above. I dont think Celox is coming to US this year, Vigor wont have LTE and LG Revolution 2 may still have that 4 hour battery issue unresolved if they are getting released this year.

Lets just wait and see....no point in speculating any further.

Any of you saying that Bionic will be the phone to have for any length of time - at @ $299 especially - has heard nothing of the Moto Droid "Dinara." After waiting this long for the Bionic, I'd rather believe the rumors and wait it out than waste my money on something that would've been cool a year ago.

I agree with those who said they'd have paid for the $299 Bionic in May, but with the "Dinara" likely out before the end of the year, its pretty clear that all of that "R&D" time is going into something far better based on the Bionic design. It'll likely have the same improved battery life, better TI processor and will obviously be an LTE phone. Do some reading - this is the real superphone we've been waiting for. The Bionic is simply going to be a terrible attempt to make good on the hype they created at CES.

I think the point is that there will always be something as good as the first house to fall back on...

I truly hate the part about a non removable battery however...

It does look like a nice phone, basically it comes down to resources... Once the Bionic is out when I have $299 sitting in my bank account without it being earmarked for anything else then it will be going into a phone.

At this point as long as it is a Bionic or above I don't really care.

I think you hit on something here and possibly missed it yourself.

While all the other phone manufacturers were building and selling current technology phones, (and making profits like you say) Motorola was sinking their profits back into R & D of things like a better LTE radio etc. Which like you said may put them 6 months ahead of the other manufacturers. This could translate into even more profits in the future by selling their 2nd generation LTE radio to the other phone manufacturers.

I guess this may be Google profits now.

Just my thoughts......

Great analysis there - and it could very well pan out to put them back on the map *permanently*

You are just dreaming for Moto which will quickly disappear in Fall...

edit: just found more concrete evidence Celox is coming soon. Usually when you see images of actual device, it's launch is imminent. Real Bionic images also surfaced just a few months ago...

Good. Now, since this is the Bionic forum, how about we talk about the Bionic here and talk about the Celox in the GSII forum?

Not only did we have images, but we had the ACTUAL Device in our hands .... in January. My point is, just because there is pictures of something does NOT mean its coming out soon. And even if it does, so what??!?! Something else will be right around the corner.

Look, if you're gonna buy the Bionic, GREAT! If you don't, well, thats on you! No need to talk about "oh this is coming then, so ima get this then" garbage.....jus' sayin!

all of us here have serious cell phone issues. I myself have had since the end of june the charge, X2, D3 currently and getting bionic sept 8. yes i will be paying full retail and if the vigor, prime, droid hd, sgs2, or whatever is better ill be swapping again. the way i see it is this dont wait. people passing on bionic will wait for vigor then hold out for maybe the prime then maybe droid hd but then theyll b leaks for ces 2012 then mwc in march 2012 then so on. its a vicious cycle. sometimes I wonder what happened to the simple days when I looked forward from leaving nextel and the i95cl cause i was like oh crap this thing has a color screen or the days of the kyocera slider se-47 or the lg v. i mean im literally buying smartphones to get faster internet to check cell phone sites like this for another phone. wth!

Ok whether Vigor or Optimus is coming out soon or not.

Droid Bionic is NOT "destined to fail". jeez... it just seems like some people are pissed at the delay and almost wishing it to fail.

At first I thought the $299 price was a bit much, but if you think about it... it's not that farfetched. I mean it's gonna be the first dual core LTE device for Verizon. That alone puts this phone "up there" ...the only down side is the array of rival phones coming soon afterward. I think it would've been a HUGE success if this phone was out like... a month ago. But now that we've seen options... maybe it won't be as big of a success, but it'll still be fairly successful, imo.

Are you seriously suggesting that google will just close up Motorola Mobility after paying 12-1/2 Billion USD for it?

Guess Google could technically close out the company name and keep operations under the Google name...

Granted the sale won't go through until 2012 anyways...

i seriously doubt it.... but even still. that would not be considered as "closing"

But either way, it is nonsense that Google will close Motorola Mobility... and i am still confused where this Motorola hate is coming from...

Thanks, V - to quote the Google blog page:

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including the receipt of regulatory approvals in the US, the European Union and other jurisdictions, and the approval of Motorola Mobility

Besides, I wanna see and hold a Dinara..... Maybe even buy one. Still "buggin'" me about the non-replacable battery spec. (By the consumer anyway)

I'm pretty sure that the Dinara is just going to AT&T. That's what Droid-Life, the insiders at HowardForums, and Android Central say.

First off the last 2 pages were a good read... I look at the price and phone like this. I paid 299 for the wife's iphone last year. So you can see that money is not the issue (for me) as i am willing to pay for what i want. And she did not even know i was getting it for her. I have an OG droid with a busted screen. Not that i use it but the slide out keyboard refuses to slide out.. for me its time and i have waited long enough. I was going to get the charge and then i heard about this phone. Looks like a winner for me. Sure something else is coming out real soon. And then something right after that too. Why wait and wait. Buy it or don't its your money.
