Help GPS Stopped Working

Something's up and I'm not convinced it's all completed related just to the app/versions on the phones. I've been trying all the workarounds mentioned in this (and other threads/forums) for at least the last 24 hours. Finally, about a hour ago I was actually getting 5-6 satellites and my Droid 2 even locked on to a few for a few minutes (GPS = OK!). But, it's now back to the same problem as described above. (for the record - Rochester, NY).

buffalo area, originally posted this problem thursday evening. talked to verizon techs twice. did a factory reset to no avail, still unable to lock onto any gps satellites rendering google maps nav useless. verizon is sending me a new droid2 but i fear it wont accomplish anything. anybody had any luck uninstalling/reinstalling maps? supposedly google is aware of the situation being contacted by verizon? how do you get through to google. can we believe verizon actually "spoke" to anyone at google. any help/updates on this issue please keep posting.

I live in Ithaca, yesterday in Albany, GPS stopped working. What can we do to put pressure on them to get this fixed. I uninstalled Maps update, emptied cashe and data ,re set, still will not work. Does anyone have any ideas?

Motorola droid and droid x unable to lock onto gps, my daughters droid 3 has no problems with gps in Rochester NY.

I'm in the same boat as tmarkel. I also live in Buffalo, my GPS stopped locking on my Droid 2 when I needed it on Friday. I did a factory reset and also did not correct the problem. The update seems to have updated the firmware in the gps chipset. And like other users in this thread, when my GPS does momentarly lock onto a signal, it believes I'm in either France or Spain traveling at 700MPH. I did contact Verizon support, and they stated that is a known issue with no ETA of a fix. And now I hear that my family and friends are now beginning to have the same issues with different android devices, but all on the Verizon Wireless network. Why do I have this feeling that issue isn't going to be fixed in a timely matter?

Same issue here, in Upstate NY near Binghamton. GPS has been dead since Thursday.

Kind of irked that they still have no ETA for a fix on this. Supposed to be driving to VA tomorrow, and was relying on my phone for dirving directions. Also can't track my runs on Endomondo.

Searching for GPS...
I'm very happy to find this thread. My wife & I both have the Incredible (less than 1 year) and I started seeing this a few days ago.
We are also Upstate NY - Syracuse area. My location will also show me around the border of France & Spain. It screws up the Weather app... Shows weather for "Gazost".
A coworker has a newer Motorola Droid X and he is experiencing similar problems.
I took it into Verizon and they blamed it on Google, said there was nothing they could do. The more I think about it - That's LAME. I'm going to Verizon again tomorrow.
Thanks to everyone here - please post any new info you find & I'll do the same.

Having same problem last two days in upstate NY (Albany) with navigation not working in Google Maps. I called Verizon and, despite that others here have reported Verizon said it's a known issue, when I spoke with them they said they didn't know anything about it, and to contact Google... (very frustrating!)

I find it interesting that Google's *free* navigation system is suddenly not working on Verizon phones for some mysterious reason, leaving me with no other option for navigation on my phone than to pay $9.99 to Verizon to use their own navigation system...

I wonder if their last upgrade did something to deliberately interfere with/jam the GPS working with Google Maps/Navigation....

Google pushed an update to their Maps service and since the update on 8/16 many users may have been reporting the inability to use the Google Navigation. Once an address has been selected as a destination and the user attempts to navigate to the location, the phone indefinitely displays

Also, I reported the problem to Google through the Maps app on my phone and received a problem case number (by email) and the promise of an email follow-up when it is resolved. You can do this by opening the Maps app and selecting "Menu" and then "Report a Problem" and it let's you type in what you're experiencing, and also asks if you want to be emailed with a resolution (yes!). I suggest we all do this...the more Google hears about this the more likely they are to do something about it...and quickly...

Yep, I'm having the same problem in upstate NY/Rochester area. Verizon says it's a Google Maps problem and that they're working on it. The best accuracy I can get from my GPS is to withing 2200 meters. Navigator is useless now.

I hope they fix this soon.

Scorpimoon, I'm not seeing "report a problem" as an option after I hit the menu button...even if I go to 'more' and hit 'help', still not seeing somewhere to report...what am I missing?

Thanks!

Binghamton area here. Started for me about Wednesday or thursday. I haven't been able to get a lock on my bolt or my OG Droid or my fathers Droid x. The droid had always been such a strong gps machine I knew something had to be up. Like others glad I found this thread. Ill call as well...

I'm in the Capital Region (Troy, NY) and I noticed this problem today. Downgrading Google Maps didn't fix it. Dumping the cache didn't help either. Based on everyone's comments here it seems pretty likely that it is a Google issue and not the phone itself. Doesn't sound like Verizon is at fault either.

Also, my phone said I was in Spain this morning.

I have a rooted HTC Incredible with S-Off. Skyraider 4.1 rom.

Oops, sorry, incomplete instructions! :) First pull up directions to somewhere and then when you are at the directions screen (not the maps screen but the actual written directions) hit "Menu" and then on the lower right corner you'll see the "Report A Problem" option.

Its funny that it is only happening to us people here in New York. I'm wondering if it has anything do with the law that was recently just passed about using a electronic device while driving. There is an exception to this law in using regular GPS devices, but not using the GPS on a phone.

I noticed this on Saturday, i have 5 friends with droid Inc, 4 here in Upstate ny 1 from here but currently in Ohio, one in MA. None of us in NY can get sats to lock. Friends with unrooted phones show weather in Spain and France. Both my friend in Ohio and my friend in MA can lock. Thus I say, this is Verizon not google. I just hope they fix it.

Pure coincidence, if you phone is in a cradle on the windshield that is not a violation of the law, its only a violation if your holding it in your hand.
