Rogers 911/Sense UI Update: Post your problems here

I knew I was forgetting about something....

Is it my imagination or did the caller history app (or icon) disappear with the Sense UI update?

I wanted to check to see who called in the past day but I cannot find the icon. I used to keep this icon on my home screen. It was very useful but now it seems to be GONE.

BTW, I know I can get the call history from the Call app, click MENU, click Call History. But that is 3 steps compared to 1 from the home screen.

Not a big deal though.

a matter of taste

Anyone with a HTC Magic in Canada should have the exact same user experience! This is the only logical result!
ah, you're being sarcastic right?
;)

I ran the same Sense UI in December. It is quite lovely indeed. But there are other home UIs which are subjectively faster depending on your use and preference.

If you're having issues then it might be worth turning off the default option for a day to see which problems are ROM and which are Sense related.
You can always set default to what works best until updates come flying out.

I hear that the latest cyan is pretty quick. :p

Huh, why

Anyone with a HTC Magic in Canada should have the exact same user experience! This is the only logical result!

So if Sense UI on my HTC Magic is faster and more usable than before the update than how can other HTC Magic owners complain that the Sense UI is slower?

I am very pleased with this new interface with its Live Folders, new and highly useful widgets, more screens, and more responsiveness... How could anyone complain about this?

Right, cause we all know that software ALWAYS works EXCATLY the same on EVERYONE'S computer. <wink><wink>

Just because it works so well for you, doesn't mean it works so well for everyone else, or even that they like or want Sense UI.

I'm willing to bet there is a genre of music YOU like. Should everyone else like it equally? If YOU like it, it must be the most awesome music in the world evarrrrr!1!!!1!

For the record again, here is the current list of reported issues.

REMEBER: Most of the problems seem to be because of Sense UI on the Magic, so it is likely you won't be experiencing most/any of these problems if you have a Dream.

PLEASE look at this list and help us by confirming if you have encountered any of the following, or found a fix. Thanks!

- VoiceDialer is GONE (you will need to DL a 3rd party app)
- Bluetooth activation of Voice Dialer (even using 3rd party) MIGHT not be working. We need to confirm.
- Fido Roaming: Fido customers report their phones now constantly say they are roaming (data I believe)
- Force close: Some people report various FCs and spontaneous reboots
- Photo gallery (some users report only photos in the 100MEDIA folder show in gallery, unlike in previous version which only required photos to be in any sub-folder of the DCIM folder) Can we please confirm?
- Possible problem with MS Exchange - Can we confirm please?
- Freezing, etc: Twitter user XBrav is having problems with freezing, buzzing, and calls not completing.
- Battery issues: possibly draining faster for some users.
- App availability: Some apps previously available in the marketplace are now not available. This appears to be an issue with Google needing to "approve" the Rogers/HTC update for the marketplace.
- Call forwarding: Some users report inability to get calls to forward properly. Has been reported to tech support.
- French Keyboard: User Valliant reports that his keyboard switched from QWERTY in "portrait" orientation to "AZERTY" (Euro keyboard) in "Landscape" mode. This has been confirmed! Landscape keyboard appears to be QWERTY, but actually acts as AZERTY. Only on Magic, and with language set to French.
- Weather: Some users report inability to delete or add cities in the weather widget. Is this a setting issue? Can anyone please confirm?
- Brightness: Users report inability to change screen brightness using widgets. Can only be changed from Settings screen.
- Brightness Cont: GBD reports: "The first time that I used quick settings app to adjust brightness my screen went completely black and i had to shine a light on it to get the brightness back up. Now tonight I was playing with the screens and the same thing happened. It was repeatable but not every time switching, only maybe 25% of the time." Can we please have someone else try to confirm?

NOTE: The task manager "Kill All" issue has a fix. You must add htc sense and com.htc.provider to the ignore list.

QUESTION: Can people who have updated please report the difference in available RAM & ROM space on your Dreams and Magics now compared to previously? I have seen some reports that there is now a lot less space on the internal memory for installing apps.

QUESTION 2: Can anyone please confirm whether or not Microsoft Exchange is working properly?

Voice Dialer:
RogersMary and HTC confirm native Voice Dialer will be returned in Android 2.1 for Magic. Status of BT activation of Voice Dialer still needs to be confirmed.

Bricking: Some users report their phones are "bricked" or otherwise inoperable after completing the Rogers Update. Can we please confirm?

The Browser now has multitouch zoom.

You "pinch in" to zoom in. Place your thumb and index on the screen, and bring them together, you'll see.

To zoom out, just "pinch out", bring your thumb and index further apart.

That's it.

Thanks Nic! Actually it just so happened the page I'm viewing cannot be zoomed in/out using the two-finger way for some reason. I could zoom in using the old way before. The pages are the article pages on RealGm.com...oh well.

I used to think multi-touch cannot be done on Magic due to hardware limitation. It's awesome now we get to have it. :)

Try dolphin browser from the market. It is multotouch capable and you can elect to zoom the old way.

I just set up MS Exchange and can confirm that all works for me. There are differences in look from what it was before but it does work.

Well i have 2 dream phones, and did the update on both. One seems to be alright. The other one has a battery life now of about 5-6 hours now...(no apps, no gps) and seems to drop 3g and have no network connectivity every few hours.

So im stuck pulling the battery out for a few mins every time i notice my phone isn't working properly. And that seems to get me back on for a little bit.

I called rogers yesterday and was told that i could keep pulling my battery out, or also switch down to 2g which may or may not fix the battery draining. I told the rep that it was unrealistic to suggest i disable features of the phone because of a software "fix" that was forced on me, and do have a new phone being sent out apparently.

Hopefully the next one doesn't have all these issues.

Just to keep you guys informed, I have reached out to Jessika Goldstein from HTC to understand from HTC's side what is taking so long on getting a list of features which were included/removed from the recent update to both the Magic and Dream devices. I've asked RogersMary numerous times only to be told that the matter is in HTCs hands.

Recently, HTC in working with Rogers Wireless in Canada made available an update to both the HTC Magic and Dream devices. We have noticed that numerous capabilities have been disabled/removed as part of this update. And new features, including Sense UI and OTA updates are included in this update as well.

This update was made available last week and we the android community have reached out to Rogers to try and get a feature list outlining the new and removed features as part of this update to both Magic and Dream devices. So far the response we've received from Rogers is that the ask for this feature list has been made to HTC and it is in their hands.

On behalf of the Canadian users of HTC Magic and Dream, I would like to understand the following:

1) How is it that a feature list is not provided before providing the actual software update to the carriers and/or consumers?
2) How long does it take to put together a feature list outlining the capabilities which are released as part of a software update?

The reason for my curiosity is that I have been working in the IT field for well over 10 years and these practices are unheard of in the general software development domain. Regardless of whether the software being developed is for desktop, web or mobile platform.

I'd like to understand from HTC on why the extended delay in providing a list of features which are included or removed from this new update.

Thank you for taking the time to address my concerns and for your prompt response in this matter.

Regards,

Puleen

I updated my HTCdream on Jan 24th just like they told me to. my data was not turned back on in 24 hours as promised. I had to call them on the 27th to get it turned back on.

My voice dialer still works on the Dream BUT most other things don't- My calls don't go through half the time, my data keeps cutting out, I don't recieve notifications of missed calls or texts. I know these sound like problems with the carrier/reception but I live in downtown Toronto and have never had a problem like this.

I need to keep removing the battery and restarting the phone twice a day so that my data comes back on. I use it for business so I really need to actually recieve my emails and phone calls.

Battery drain- I unplug my phone from the charger around 8:30am by 7-8pm at night the battery is dead and the phone shuts off. It used to last until the next morning before the update

I called Rogers tech support about the problem and they said Tomorrow I should have a new HTC dream in the mail but I imagine it will have similar problems.

I called customer relations and was informed that since my phone is broken and they are no longer offering the magic because it is broken if I would like a working phone i would need to spend $50 for a new blackberry 9000 or $100 for a 9700.
It dosen't really seem fair that I need to pay anything since they broke my phone with their download.

@Bumbaya: sorry, this thread is for discussing issues resulting from the Rogers 911 bug fix to the Rogers HTC Dream, and Magic.

You will probably have the best luck asking your questions in the main Android Lounge forum, or the sub-forum for the G1.

- Bluetooth activation of Voice Dialer (even using 3rd party) MIGHT not be working. We need to confirm.
Bluetooth activation of Voice Dialer doesn't work anymore on my Magic. From what I'm reading here it's not working for any Magics after the update.

- Battery issues: possibly draining faster for some users.
The battery is draining slightly faster. I'm using ActiveSync through the day and before the update the phone was having about 40% charge remaining at the end of the day. Now after the update it usually has about 20% charge left at the end of the day.
Anyways it's a nightly routine for me to charge the phone (ahh where is my nice and simple SE W810 that kept charge for 3-4 days!)

QUESTION 2: Can anyone please confirm whether or not Microsoft Exchange is working properly?

The MS Exchange (ActiveSync) is working for me. I'm having an "untrusted certificate" window popping up now and then but other than that the Exchange is working fine.

I have seen this problem repeatedly since the E911/UISense Fix...

My Data Synchronization (Gmail specifically, but also Google Calendar / Contacts) has been failing to run. My settings are good. It will run fine for a day or two, but then at some point I'll notice that my email hasn't arrived recently and I'll check and find that my phone hasn't updated in 2 hours.

If I turn off-then-on my Data Synchronization it immediately syncs up.

Of interest: Both my wife and I have seen this with, her with her newly patched Dream, and me with my newly patched Magic. So it's not just a UISense thing.

Someone mentioned that they saw this behaviour before the patch, but we've had our phones since August and haven't remarked on it before. (And now it seems to happen every few days...)

Does anyone have any experience with this one? Especially after the patch?

Just got my Magic, and 2 weeks after got the upgrade.

Problems I noticed:

- Seems to be going on internet once in a while (the up and down arrows flashing on and off once in a while without me doing anything. I am a new smartphone user so I am not sure what causes this or if it is normal, but I did not notice it was doing this before the update. as a precaution I switch off internet access when not using it or when out of range of wi-fi.

- I own a Garmin NUVI 765W GPS. Before the update, against all odds (based on what I read here...) I was having absolutely no problems at all connecting bluetooth, it would connect automatically when in range with GPS, and it even synched all contacts upon first connection. It was like a dream come true... now after the update, the phone wont connect automatically, I have to switch BT off and on on the phone so the GPS recognizes it, and no more data transfer whatsoever (contacts, outgoing or ingoing call history, nothing). Big big deception. But I undersatnd I was already one of the lucky ones to have BT working at all with android...

- Upon end of a call when the line is busy, I press the red button and it wont hang up the first time and sometimes second. I am 100% positive that hardware is fine, has to be the OS.

Other than that nice additions for UI sense, but I still miss deeply my experience with 100% BT functionality and I am worried about my internet bills with these unscheduled internet activations.

This is not a problem but the only thing bugging me is that that when I use my gps the little satelite dish in the right top corner does not come on anymore.Did anybody else notice this or is it just my phone that is defective???
