Root [CDMA] [ROM] - Stock Rooted 2.08.651.2 -8/27- This is the Sprint RUU Update with NO mods other than ROOT!

This ROM has no mods at all other than ROOT. Its a good ROM to base your own custom ROM. Perfect for aspiring Developers!

Change Log:
8/27/2011 - I updated the ROM to include the lastest HTC OTA pushed out on 8/26/2011

Scott, not sure but I think this is already posted here, correct me if wrong, http://androidforums.com/evo-3d-all-things-root/398475-2-08-651-2-rom-updates-post-em-here.html

No, its not the same. That's xhausx version of the ROM. Mine slightly varies. His version was made from a DUMP mine was made from RUU. If you look ever so carefully in the root of the ROM you will see what I am talking about. He has a couple extra files that indicate his was made from a dump. Mine does not have those files because of the RUU vs DUMP method of obtaining the files.

In essence, my ROM is more "pure" but essentially the same.

I hope that clears it up some.

EDIT: I will post the differences in a minute.....

EDIT 2: The specific fota change I am referring to is the fotaBoot being in the root of the ROM. I know its a very minor difference. Also, I plan on making a revision to this ROM shortly that includes the HTC Application Updates that were pushed on 8/26.

For the aspiring developer, what guides or tutorials do you recommend for customizing and packaging a ROM for distribution?

You sure you want to add the application update, since many seem to be having issues with it, I have not updated it, but I did check this morning and the update was no longer available on my side, not sure if HTC pulled it or not.

FYI, thanks for the info

I would start off with dsixda kitchen. Its pretty easy to use but can be a pain to get runinng because its written for unix. BUt you can use CYGWIN to emulate. Thats how I run it and he has instructions for all three OS's.

But here are my tools for the aspiring developer:

Kitchen: [KITCHEN][August 23 '11] Android Kitchen, v0.177 [Linux / Mac / Windows] - xda-developers
Allows you to decompile and then recompile ROM.

APK Manager: Apk Manager 4.9 - Makes Modifying Ur Apk A Breeze (Windows/Linux) - xda-developers
Allows you to decompile APK files, make changes then recompile. Use it for themes and making "hacks / edits" to actual java code.

Signing: Signing made easy.... [ Updated July/2009 ] - xda-developers
Allows you to sign an APK or ZIP file. Not as usefull as it once was but I use it from time to time.

Theme Guide: https://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AcdxIJRSH9ypZGZzc2pxNDlfMjdnazk4OHNxZA&hl=en
Shows the ins outs of specific files you need to understand to be good at themeing.

Java SDK: Java SE Development Kit 7 Downloads
All Android is written in Java so this is obviousl

Android SDK: Android SDK | Android Developers
Contains things like adb, ddms, etc. Tools that all the other tools need.

Notepad++: http://notepad-plus-plus.org/
You will need it to edit any of the aforementioned files because the are all unix / linux.

UOT: http://uot.dakra.lt/kitchen/
Ultimate Online Theme Kitchen - Name says it all. Can really help automate alot of the theme aspect of the ROM.

ADB Commands: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517874
Quick little guide on how to use ADB to manipulate the device

This list is not all inclusive but its meant to be a jump start so you know where to look. It took me forever to compile this list of tools. They are all essential.

All though this is not a "guide" each thread has a guide on how to use the tool. From there you learn from trial and error (and thousands of bad flashes) and asking questions.

Please feel free to ask any question about ROM development relating to the E3D in this thread. Thats kinda why I started it. To help people who want to learn the basics.

Could you give citations on the issues? I have not heard of any.

Isn't yours a complete rom while Haus' was simply the update? I thought I recalled that back when I opened his update...

fwiw, there's a lot of unfounded speculation on the recent app-level update. There was no radio update but as soon as it was mis-reported that there was, false observables were noted. Similarly, people with tangled configurations are reporting that the GPS widget is broken. Why you'd use it escapes me, but it's fine. And the update was not pulled and fixed.

I wouldn't worry about it.

No, they are both complete ROMS. Im not 100% sure (only 99.99) the method he used but he has a "fotaboot" file which I believe indicates that he did a system dump after an applied OTA. Mine is an RUU dump from the stock ROM leaked by football. That is really the only difference besides the method of rooting it. Which is really inconsequential.

As far as the update... Yeah, I know. I integrated the update into CleanROM 2.2 and SenselessROM 2.1 and have no complaints and some did notice faster 4G.

Just for the record, its not a Radio update (as you know). Its simply 2 files... 1. The updated 4G driver (com.htc.spcscorp4g-1.apk)
2. A fix for the add widget module in Sense (com.htc.AddProgramWidget-1.apk)
It changes nothing else at all.

Dont worry, I am not worried about it, lol.

If I thought for a second that this update would cause any issues (if applied properly) I would not have been so quick to update my ROMS with the newer file versions.

As far as the GPS widget, I would like a citation. I find it hard to believe because this update did not touch that file... Not saying that the widget app didn't affect it somehow but I would still like to see who is saying this so I can prove correct or debunk.

Just one last quick note.... I cannot say with 100% certainly the method that xhausx used to dump the ROM. I can only say it does have the "fotaboot" file while the RUU does not. I sent him a PM and will post back his reply.

IF indeed that he did dump from the RUU then I cant understand why he would have a fotaboot file and I dont because there is only one RUU out, lol!

With any stock system OTA it's pretty common to get tangled caches and dogs sleeping with cats. All sorts of problems are reported that clear up with a factory data reset. I always advise it at the first sign of trouble. Many won't because of the backup hassle, and then problems compound until every manner of bad idea is offered - HTC sux, the update is broken, the phone sux, etc, etc, etc.

I can pretty much guarantee that people are seeing a broken GPS widget and a factory reset would fix it. Nothing to debunk.

I see this across the device forums.

Yet again the primary reason to root - personal control thru superior tools and choices.

By the way, I checked out Notepad++ pretty cool. When stranded in Windows without cygwin, I'll stick with vim (vim.org) tho.

PS - I was under the impression that Haus simply took the OTA update, decomposed it and repackaged it. The system zip was 384 MB tho, so maybe that was just something I got wrong.

Indeed!

Well,I got the final word from xhausx...

He said the reason the fotaboot is in there is because he placed it in the from the OTA to the RUU Dump. So indeed other than that one file he put there the ROMS are composed the same. You can see why I thought his was a dump, lol. We also agreed that the file has no value, lol

Yeah, my copy was made by dumping the system partition after patching it with the OTA. Technically everything should be the same, but it's usually best to get it straight from the RUU. Although, on the Evo 4G HTC did forget to include a file in the 3.30 and up RUUs that they later required for an OTA. lol

To create mine I just downloaded the OTA, removed the firmware.zip, flashed it through the recovery and then dumped the system partition as an image file. According to the comments in a past OTA the fotaBoot bin is there for "customization", so I figured I would include it just in case it was needed.

Great! I must have misunderstood you then in the PM. Thanks much for the clarification. So it is a sys dump while mine is a RUU pull.

How did you find this thread? lol

Google :)

I've been around here for awhile but when I originally created my account I used an older handle that I try not to get mixed up with this one. Call me paranoid but if HTC or anyone else tries to track me down I don't want to make it too easy for them to find me. ;)

Nice work in any case - linked to your thread at XDA and loaded it immediately.

Always impressive to get a stock rooted rom within hours (less!?) of the OTA.

Now, if HTC would release the 2.3.4 kernel source, netarchy could take the next step, and I could overclock and get back to running Ubuntu. :)

Welcome to the forums! (in this incarnation)

You're more than welcome here, and we do give devs their own forums. GalnetMIUI just came on board, for example.

Scott, I have not updated the latest update, I was simply reading this thread HERE and they were complaining of issues, I had checked a couple of times to see if the update was available for me and it was there but I had not updated, then when I started reading reports I figured I would wait to see if it was safe to download because I was rooted and then I tried again to see if the update was there and the last couple of times I had checked it said no updates available. Was simply posting an observation I was reading and was curious if you had heard anything about it. ;)

Another question Scott, is there anything that can be done either in this Rom, or one of your custom Roms, to address the volume issues many of us are having with the phone, not sure if there is something that be adjust within the Rom or not, but thought I would ask, I have created a thread over at HTC and there has been may replies, but none from HTC, wondered if you also saw this thread, Questions regarding Speaker and Display

No, like I said prior... I had no issues at all with it. That widget is not even affected by the update. I think like earlymon said, its spaghetti on a phone when they try to update it so maybe whatever else is installed along with the update is causing this. But as far as me and my ROMS no one has reported it in the first 29 hours and that was about 700 downloads in that time frame  That's my fast moving set of ROMS yet.

As far as volume... Well, I added DSP Manager to my Customs. People say it helps. I dont use speaker much and 99% of the time my phone is on vibrate at work and when I am at home its usually flashing some wild test that I have. But yeah, give DSP manager a try. If you need I can post it for you or you can search various forums for it. IT may help you. Others here on this forum reported in CleanROM thread that it helped.

Wonder if anyone has a mirror of this, this is painfully slow

I pay for all hosting out of my own money. I keep low volume stuff like this on my cheapo domain account and hosts all the high volume stuff on a paid hosting account (by xRepinsSporx of XDA) to conserve bandwidth.

If need be and there is more interest I am sure I could move it to the faster account (at the cost of bandwidth / money). I have well over 1TB's (1,000,000,000,000) of downloaded data a week and have to pick and choose what files go where to help lower costs. I'm sure you can respect that.

Also, feel free to mirror this ROM anywhere you want after you get it downloaded. Please just don't mirror any of my other ROMS. This one... do what you want.

Also, how slow is it going? GoDaddy is my host provider for the site and direct downloads.

Thanks

-Scott
