Ok, So I have a quick question...

I have a rooted Ally flashed w/velocity and it seems that when I plug my ally into the computer, instead of charging, now it seems to discharge (or at least, not charge). I recall on stock that there is a setting somewhere that you click to have it charge on usb, but I can not find it in velocity...Does anyone know where it is? That may be be the answer to my issue, but i cannot find this setting!

Thanks!

I dont know about that setting, ive never seen it and id like to think i would have if it was there. ive never had issues charging with my pc at home. ive read about people having issues if the drivers arent installed. Ive had a friend who had a usb port in the car that would actually drain my battery hella fast but charged her phone just fine. Also ive had the connection get loose or something at either end although it said it was still charging it has just stopped. Maybe theres something thatll help you somewhere in all of that.

It used to charge just fine on the USB prior to the "change" so that is why I figured it was just a setting that had gotten reset once I was flashed to velocity. I know it was on the stock rom bc I remember seeing it...hmmm.

i had this problemas well. It turned out that all i had to do was install the usb drivers for the ally on my pc then it would charge. I had to do both on my home pc as well as my work pc.

Ok I'm using a Windows 7 64-bit OS trying to unlock my LG Ally. Thus far I have been able to successfully get through step 8e) adb shell and get the $ prompt but beyond that I can't get it to root. I've tried every combination of things to do as far as removing my SDcard completely to leaving it in without connecting USB Storage and connecting USB storage. I've even tried using the stock sdcard that came with my phone. I've tried manually moving the files through windows explorer but nothing seems to work can someone please help me?

When I type in "/data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh"

either nothing happens or I will get this in response

"[1] Killed /data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh"

Anyone knows what it means?

Right now when I try it this is what happens.

c:\android\sdk\platform-tools>adb shell
$ /data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh
/data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh
$

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Well you should be running 2.2 (froyo) and the guide youre trying is for 2.1.. find the bew guide

To Root/unroot 2.2.1 or 2.2.2
1.Go to [26.04.2011][v1.2] GingerBreak APK (root for GingerBread) - xda-developers and down GingerBreak APK v1.2 **Please read through the original post for need to know info**

2.copy it to the root directory of your SD Card

3. use a file management program such as Root to navigate to the file (GengerBreak-1.20.apk) and install on your phone. explorer https://market.android.com/details?id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer&feature=search_result

4. Open program and press "Root Device"

5. wait for phone to reboot. Congratulations, your rooted

I'm thinking of converting a movie or two to save to the sdcard & play later. I was wondering what would be the best aspect ratio, file type, etc.. to play the best on the Ally's screen. And any suggestions on a video player would be cool too. I installed arcMedia but haven't had much to play on it except some flv files.

Anyway, chime in and suggest away............

Yesterday I tried out a lock-screen app, didn't like it so I immediately uninstalled it. After that I noticed that, for some reason, my phone decided to uninstall Wireless and Wired tether ......as well as Velocity wallpapers?
I'm not sure what happened and I didn't do anything different or drastic today.
So If anyone knows of some way I could get these apps re-installed I'd greatly appreciate it.

*****Well, a good buddy of all of ours sent me the APKs I needed****
I tried putting them in system/app folder using root explorer ......no go?
I tried opening them in Astro and they loaded right up, no sweat!! Wallpapers work great.
But then, when I tried wireless tether it said my device was not rooted and it was unable to connect? Am I missing something here 'cuz my shit is quite rooted? Thanks guys, I do really appreciate your help!!

Do you have a nand backup you could restore? You could also just re-flash the ROM.

Yeah, I'm just gonna re-flash 1.1 from scratch. That should do it. I can have my phone set up again how I like it in a few minutes. Maybe I'll try some different tweaks and wut-not while i'm at it, just for schnitz and giggles?
Oh yeah, can I re-name my Nandroid backups so I can know which is which, or will that screw things up?

I have 2.2.1 and have continuously retried many times, any one happen to see anything Im missing or forgetting? Im using Linux Mint 10 32-bit

I apologize if you have read this post before (i have posted in 2 other places Im new to this site and still trying to figure it out sorry :/ )
..Any ways I know nothing about how to even proceed with rooting my phone [lg ally], I have read countless threads about rooting, trying to find help (that I can understand) I am hoping some one can point me in the right direction and speak to me in a language I can understand.(I am completely illiterate when it comes to technology terms, linux, procedures, abbreviations, etc). I want to root my phone, but I would like to understand what it is I am supposed to do first. Can/will any one help me? Puhh-leeeez

Please help. i know im late but im using Windows to root my phone. when typing in command prompt it says, " 'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." wtf does that mean?

Hey guys. I'm having trouble trying to figure out why im getting this error message in Windows command prompt. It states. " 'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." i have no clue why it isn't picking up the adp operation. please help.

Hey,
New to Android, however pretty easy.
I did expect this, so here is the situation
I downloaded and followed the
PdaNet app and PdaNet for Mac......wow worked great, fast and was easy.

Now a day later I teether, and when I open the browser, on Clear web site comes up. Clear is 51% owned by Sprint by the way.

Anyone experienced this? Is there a way around?

Im using a HTC EVO 4G and a new MacBook osX 10 6 8, so all is current and updated as far as I know.

Cheers

no need to double post my friend. you need to enter
Code:
cd c:\directory\where\adb\is
this just tells the pc to go to that folder so it can use it it should be somewhere in the androidsdk folder maybe in tool or platform tools depending on where how and when you go it.

i have NO idea what you are talking about. try in android applications for pdanet help, sprint for sprint help or evo for evo help. but a sure way to fix this, root and flash cyanogenmod wired and wireless tether built in along with tons of other goodies. but if you aren't tech savvy then i wouldn't mess with it

Wifes ally is experiencing google authentication errors. Everyday or two, her phone pops up the verification capcha or whatever its called. Its getting really annoying to have to put that thing in as the screen is small enough on the ally its hard to see what to type in sometimes. Wierdest thing is that you can put the correct word in, an it gives you another one to put in. Its like thanks, may i have another. Enter about 3 or 4 of them back to back, an then it might let get past that. Sometimes they only way past them is to reboot. Is there some setting on the phone that keeps popping these up? Is there anything that can be done about it?

I had the same problem once, and for the life of me I can't remember what I did to fix it. I think that I re-wiped the phone several times and re-installed velocity 1.1. I know that since I did that I haven't had any trouble on the phone side..
