Root [GUIDE]How to install ClockworkMod Recovery with ROM Manager

When I flashed the wrong recovery and pulled the battery it wouldnt reboot just stayed at the lg screen.

It's completely ****ed up now. I have it working, but every time I reboot it's completely reset, all the apps I installed are gone, root is gone, google login gone, like a fresh install, on every reboot...

yeah.. as i was saying.. after downloading and installimg a recovery through rom manager.. i have no clockworkmod/download/download.clockworkmod.com/recovery folder.. my folder tree in /clockworkmod goes as far as download.. wierd.. but thats how it is.. ill uninstall and delete the folder and try again lol.. and it wont restore old backups eh.. thats cool.. i can restore stock and flash cwm and make a new.backup.. lol

thats weird lol, I had like 3 diff .img's in mine lol

Omfg, this is driving me nuts.

I have my phone restored to stock, it's not zeroed out but I have no service, not too worried about that, there is no prl listed so thats prolly an easy fix.

I have rooted with gingerbreak once, it worked the first time, then I tried installing CWM thru rom manager and ****ed it up, now at this point all restored ginger break won't work. So I rooted it the old way, it worked, I installed Flash Image GUI and flashed the old, known working, previously used by me recovery just to be certain I was working with good shit. Flash seems good, boot to recovery, get shitty stock recovery splash and reboot into no root no apps no google login.....

Should I fix the prl thing first? I had that fixed and actually updated to 3020 the first time I messed up but I still had issued getting a recovery to stick..

Ok Playfulgod, say I have CWM installed and rom manager doesn't recognize it... it there another way to get to recognize cwm OTHER than the method listed in this thread?

umm i already bricked one of my phones using ROM manager. And everyone says this app bricks optimus m . 0.o

yes they have because THEY flashed a recovery that wasnt made for the Optimus M. RM nor CWM bricked their phones, but the individuals themselves did it.

All Optimus's are NOT the same ;)

Of all the Optimus configs I have looked at only 2 have been the same and thats the OM & OC. ;)

I was just playing around with CWM recovery, and it backups everything, even the sd-ext :)

It formatted the sdcard with sd-ext and swap, tho swap want be able to get used until there is a kernel that supports swap.

heh..well.. since there is really only one thing i like CWM for.. and i i can do it with the recovery i have it just takes a few extra steps.. ima stick to GNM for now lol.. to many horror stories.. besides RM still isnt creating a /clockworkmod/download/download.clockworkmod.com/recovery folder for me.. after uninstalling.. deleting folder.. rebooting phone.. and re-installing RM.. still no go for me to get RM to use CWM recovery

Alright, so I can personally vouch for CWM Recovery. I have it on my phone now, and it works. I have installed it twice, in fact. The first time was PG's first effort for our phone. I then found that USB storage didn't work with it. PG fixed that issue and I downloaded the new version. Then someone mentioned that flash image gui works, so I thought I'd try that out. It does work. I flashed the new (USB fix) CWM recovery using flash image gui. It works like a charm. I have booted into recovery (using the app quick boot) and checked out the USB fix. Now, I haven't tried everything out yet (I did make a back up prior to re-flashing the USB fix recovery), but it seems to be a good working recovery.

I'm not a programmer/developer, just an informed user. However, I think that it's safe to say that this does work.

little off topic.. but does anyone know how to pull the boot.img fromt he phone? trying to figure out a way to enable the bootloader.. ive tried adb pull /dev/mtd/mtd0 boot.img.. but i get a permmission denied error and i cannot get SU to work via adb shell either.. says permission denied.. i can use terminal to get su.. but not adb.. wierd.. i could try this from Vbox linux, guess ill try that

EDIT:
Nm got it.. just used cat command through terminal

Im having problems flashing mms patch via CWM. Edifying script error of some sort...cant recall the exact error. What am I missing? Sorry for being off topic. Maybe a CWM issue thread is in order.

Did you get the one from my wiki or that I linked on here sum where?

Im going to re dl from the wiki and see if that helps.

Yea I know it flashes with CWM, flash it on my OC even to be sure. It may not fix the roaming indicator tho, as the Ascend did have til this fix then it had that dang banner, So I removed the eri.xml all together. I just readded it with it fixed to not show a banner in the lock screen but it doesnt seen to work.

Excellent. Nice work.
Any ideas on why the sd-ext freezes when restoring? Or is there a way to bypass the sd-ext when restoring?
