Root [GUIDE]How to install ClockworkMod Recovery with ROM Manager

Can we get the older Rom Manager version from 4shared, then try the steps?

I took a leap of faith and got version 4.3.3.0 of RM from 4shared, then did PG's steps in the OP and everything worked just like the instructions said. Before (with the updated RM), I didn't get the clockworkmod/download/clockwork.download/recoveries folder, but with this older version I did. So now I can get into the CWM recovery via RM, no bricks! woot woot!

Quick question: I am using CWM recovery and I decided to format my SD and I used the recovery menu to format the SD to 1024 MB ext and 0 MB and then the rest as fat. I wasn't given an option to choose ext3, or 4 or 2 or what type of ext partition I want. What is the default format that CWM uses to format the ext partition?

I know with the GNM that's how it is, but is that the same with CWM? I looked at a2sd sysinfo and it said the partition was ext3 (I did this after I asked the question). If it is an ext2, then I couldn't find a way to upgrade it in CWM recovery.

think ext3 is default in CMW if its supported, far as converting ext2 to ext3 or 4, not sure if it can be done with any recovery but think its an option is a2sdgui.

Thanks for that info. GNM actually does have the ability to convert the partition. When you first format it, it is an ext2, and then you can convert it from 2 to 3 or 3 to 4.

That's one of the things I love about these forums, everyone learns something (that is if they aren't so full of themselves and are willing to learn, I've seen a couple of people like that).

Yea, I'm not so pigheaded as not to listen or try sumtin, unless I know for a fact it does or doesnt work lol.

And I have certainly appreciated that, since you first came on here and told us about CWM and your CM7 ROM. I've used both recoveries, and they both work well. They are different, but both work and get the job done.

How to Install ClockworkMod Recovery with ROM Manager

Install ROM Manager from the market and open it up.

Press Flash ClockworkMod Recovery
Pick any of the listed recoveries
Wait til it finishes downloading
In a file explorer copy my recovery and navigate to clockworkmod/dowload/download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/
Rename the recovery you just downloaded and add .bak to it.
it will look some like: recovery.clockwork.3.0.0.5.phone.img.bak
Now rename my recovery to the name of the recovery you downloaded exactly. (- the .bak )
it will look some like: recovery.clockwork.3.0.0.5.phone.img.
Go back to the main menu
Press Flash ClockworkMod Recovery again and select the exact same one from the list again. Since its already been downloaded it will just flash it now.
When its finished it will pop a notice up.

Now with this method the version # will be of the other device's recovery but wont affect any functions.

Changelog

it works, just follow the directions

If that worked for you, then you didn't follow the instructions and download from the market.

The newest version of RM no longer uses a cached local file if available.

Trust me I've debricked about a dozen phones because of this....
