Help Pictures disappeared from phone :-(

Weird thing happened to my phone. I took some pictures about a week ago. They were in my gallary under camera shots. A couple of days ago I went to look at them and they were gone!!!! Do you think they are still somewhere and if so, how do I find them?

Mines been doing this since the update too. Alot of my pictures are now the little ! icon.

WTF pictures I took yesterday are now gone from my gallery. I was able to find them on the SD card using Astro File Manager. The were in a subfolder of DCIM called 100 Media

On my phone the pictures I take with the camera go directly to SD/DCIM/100media and I can view them with no problem in the gallery, so I dont think the problem is with the storage location.

If you are using the stock gallery then this disappearing act with pics was happening for people before the latest update. I had it happen a few times when i got my phone in Feb and as a mentioned they would not be in my gallery but i could find them using astro. I switched to quickpic as my gallery and haven't had them disappear since.

Same thing just started happening to me, then a whole bunch of other random problems.. Then my phone wouldn't turn on and that was that.

I had this issue recently, too. A restart solved it (for now).

Edit: I'm pretty sure I already posted this response. Sorry if it eventually shows up twice.

I unmounted my sim, remounted, and restarted my phone and all my pictures are back.

It wasn't a permanent fix for me it did it again after a day that's when i switched to quickpic and never had the problem again.

Yeah, I supposed that wouldn't last long.

I downloaded quickpic and it's great, but I feel it kind of slow when I'm switching between pictures. It takes longer to load an image on fullscreen than on the stock gallery. Anyways it solved the problem of the missing pictures.

I dont have an issue going between pics. Maybe try to turn your phone off then back on? I have quickpic on a few phones and none have any problems with it being slow.

I found that unmounting the SD card then mounting it again worked. And also if you have an adapter that allows you to transfer the pics to your computer, all the pictures showed up on the computer when they wouldn't show up on the phone.

Another quick bandaid is to delete the thumbnails directory in the DCIM folder. I use File ES or mount the SD card and delete the thumbnail Dir, then when I start the gallery app it reloads all the thumbnails and the files are back again.

That however is not permanent as I have had to do that 2 or 3 times a day depending on how much it acts up. I had this issue before the update but it seems to happen more often after the update.

I ended up switching my SMS app and Mail app because of issues after the last update, I guess I may end up swapping gallery apps too. Kinda sad since I like the HTC Gallery app.

An ancillary question. I too am having this same issue, and both downloaded quick pic and did the unmount and restart trick. It's working now, but where is the best place to permanently delete pics? Should I delete them from the card, or via the image gallery/quick pics. I noticed that pictures I deleted from the image gallery have returned after unmounting the SD card.

I just delete them straight from quickpic and haven't had them reappear

I think i fixed the gallery issue-use a file explorer tool and DELETE the dalvik-cache-it will redo it at next boot then everything should show up in the gallery when you take pictures and after reboots...

good luck!

edit---look for a .nomedia file in the root of the sd card-delete the damn thing-that was the real problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
