Just received the Gingerbread update. Very happy I did.

Here's an issue that I've noticed so far:

When I adjust the ringer volume using the volume increase or decrease buttons on the side of the phone, there's a sound that occurs to indicate the what the ringer volume level changed to every time I touch a volume button. This is pretty annoying. I used to be able to adjust the ringer volume silently. When I go to Sound Settings in the phone, I didn't find a way to disable this annoying sound property. Does anyone have a solution for this? I tend to like a silent operating system.

Any feedback or solution to this problem would be appreciated. Thanks.

You having problems with missing apps like others are?

My wife woke up to notification this morning that an update was available. I'd say my phone was too...but I'm rooted and running MIUI. :D

We have three Incs but one is rooted. One of them got the update this morning!

Lost a couple apps on it and had to reboot it before the GPS would stop cycling. I think it was because of the location warnings that I didn't see after the first restart. Once I accepted those the GPS stopped activating.

Waiting for someone to post the RUU so I can update the other phone.

I already loaded one of the leaked roms on my rooted phone. Fast and better battery life. Two thumbs up.

Try volume control + in the market. I can't link you to it cause I'm on the Phandroid app but i use it to adjust volume silently all the time.

I see ya couldn't take it anymore & had to reinstall the app like u mentioned. Now us non-rooted common folk can entertain u where ever u may roam....lol.

Any problems that u've noticed so far?....specifically like apps on the sd card not showing up like others have reported.

Yes, my sd card was reported damaged but I was able to read it on the computer. I copied over the sd card contents to pc, reformatted the sd, and copied everything back over. All seems to be back to normal except that beyondpod doesn't see my downloaded podcasts that are on the sd.

I installed the update from a link a buddy sent me which from looking was the correct update.

Does anyones phone when in the android market under apps have sprint and not verizon. I seem to remember reading that was an issue on the update they pulled a little while back. It also thinks it has a 4.3 inch screen under about phone, hardware.

One thing I did notice I was missing apps like quiet a few here. Most though are paid/free from the amazon app store. Once I reauthenticated my Amazon account through the app on the phone they all came back.

New to the forum figures it seems to have started really rolloing out last night after I played around.

Welcome!!

You my friend have the rom that thinks it is an EVO, lol

Is there a aay to get rom manager to backup on SD so I can go back stock to get the update? Not sure if they blocked rooting though. Not sure if 408 got the update either. Hmm. Impatient me.

I've read conflicting info around the webs regarding this exact question. Posted and didn't get any bites, so I decided to donate my phone and a few hours to the cause. To make a long story slightly shorter:

I had a rooted stock 2.2 phone with S-off Cwm 5.0.2.0.

I downloaded the stock recovery from dougpiston.com and flashed it.

Rebooted the phone with stock recovery, noting I still had S-off.

I applied the OTA file someone captured from their phone and uploaded to xda.

Rebooted. Success! Running 2.3.4 with the new kernel, radio, etc.

Flashed Cwm 3.0.0.8 from dougpiston.com

Revolted into Cwm and applied the su-efgh file from dougpiston.com and got back root.

The HTC calendar had to be frozen (with ti backup) because it kept my phone awake after the update, but I didn't clean caches or do a wipe or anything before applying it. I suspect if I had, or do a wipe now and reinstall, that problem might disappear.

As many said, the build.prop is screwed because it reports a 4.3 inch screen. I saw a patch on xda I'm going to apply.

The phone IS faster, scoring better on linpack as well as feeling snappier in use. Haven't used it enough to determine battery life changes.

Anyway, if you absolutely cannot wait, I can attest it will work, if you reflash that stock recovery to apply the update, and that you can get root back if you're S-off before the update sink its teeth into your phone.

Probably old news at this point, but hope it helps someone.

My phone has every thing Verizon except in the market it shows sprint like yours. However my screen size is correct so I have no clue? Any help would be appreciated.

Ahhh crap that was what I was thinking, now the million $ question how do I go about fixing my own mess. DOH.

Not sure but there are some newer/better leaks out there linked in this thread and at xda... or course you could just wait for the ruu to drop

It's true, but you can eliminate or minimize it by moving all of your apps to your phone before upgrading and then moving them back off after. Barring that, you'll be reinstalling a lot of apps.

Hello all...

As I awoke to my alarm this morning around 6:30am, my phone told me that I had an update to install...I did so, and had no install problems at first...Welcome to Gingerbread! I am just outside Washington, DC...I don't know if geography matters for when these updates roll out...I wasn't even really waiting for it. I had been behind in Android news, and only learned about it being in the pipeline yesterday.

Since I am not a tech-head, I can't really get into the tech specifics of changes, but I can tell you some of the surface stuff I've noticed.

  • I lost about 6 apps, all games, including any iteration of Angry Birds (Rio, Seasons, etc) so I don't know if that's a coincidence, or something specific about the AB apps. I didn't have any on the SD card...they just vanished.
  • Yes, the numbers do flip on the HTC clock. It is uber sexy. It happens every time you unlock the phone, regardless of whether the time is about to change or not.
  • Holding down the "power" button brings up an entirely different looking menu, both in look and items...now the options are only: Power off, Airplane Mode, and Restart (Close all apps and restart phone)
  • Text is a little crisper, something I especially noticed in the "3G" in the upper menu and the battery icon.
  • Phone is A LOT snappier...like, noticeably so...after having the phone for as long as I had, there was some lag...nothing that was offensive, but enough to notice...that's all gone.
  • Web browser has turned the "Stop/Refresh" button into its own key next to the address bar. No more tiny icon next to the URL.
  • Transitions between going from being in an app/game back to home screen now has a fading effect. Very smooth.
  • On the "Mail" icon, the notification that you have new mail is no longer just green...it is a grey circle with a green border with the white number of new mails in the center.
  • I had never noticed this before, so this might not be new, but under "Incoming calls" there is now "quiet Ring on pickup" "pocket mode: To increase volume when in pocket or bag" and "Flip for speaker: Turn over your phone to activate speaker during calls"
  • Under "applications" there is now an option to Turn on and off "Fast Boot" for some market apps
  • Under "touch input" is now an option for "Chinese Text input"
I apologize if some of these are repeats...just thought it would help answer some questions...that's all I've noticed.

If anyone has any specific questions they'd like me to check out about the update, let me know, and I can do my best to accommodate you...enjoy it when ya get it!

You having problems with missing apps like others are?

I was thinking my missing apps were due to my leaving just a few on the SD card before updating, but someone else here mentioned that all of his missing apps were from the Amazon Appstore.

With further inspection I found 5 missing apps. All of them were on the SD card prior to updating, but only 2 were from Amazon.

...OK, I just shut down and restarted my phone....it no longer has the screen that says "HTC Incredible" during the reboot animation...it goes from "HTC: Quietly Brilliant" to the "Droid" animation and (no joke) Boot time from completely powered down to up and ready to use is about 3-5 seconds...like seriously. The "Droid" animation is so fast you barely see it...

No matter which gingerbread I use, the one that was pulled a couple of Weeks ago or the latest one,I still get sprint in in the market.
