My bad. I wasn't sure if the link at the bottom of the article was for rooted users or the rest of us. Either way, I'm still waiting...

I have to ask. Has anyone ever really gotten the update thru Setting-About Phone-System Updates? Or is it just there as a cruel joke?

I actually did notice the update the the Setting-About Phone-System Updates. During the 2.2 OTA I was checking my phone, noticed it was a little laggy, saw the sync icon at the top, and went to the System Update and saw that it was in the middle of downloading the update. Unfortunately it was 2 a.m. and went to bed around 3 a.m. after playing with the new OS for a bit. Seems like ages ago. I swear I was one of the last people to get it. I was probably at the end of the update window. Good times!:D

It pisses me off because for some weird reason I get all excited for an update . Then it hits and I don't really care

Well 2.2 did have some rather good improvements/features... GB is supposed to really speed the phone up though... for me though it is jsut something new(er) to play with till the Vigor (probably)

My phone had the syncing icon, didn't think anything of it. Then out of the corner of my eye I see an icon pop up, & what is it? None other than the low space crap, then it disappeared. #stupid

i'm more interested in sprint getting the iphone 5 (for my kid)....

If i was sprint it would be evo3d or photon (photon is really nice)

Though why not vzw for iphone?

vzw pricing sucks ... SUCKS

I pay $116/month on sprint for my wife and daughter. They share 1500 minutes and have unlimited data and text. Cell to cell (any carrier) is free. The closest I can get on VZW is $180ish. I haven't checked recently but I doubt VZW has dropped their prices that much.

Plus my daughter is 12 (13 in october) and the iphone is a must -- LOL

Good point. I did some checking and I would save like 35 bucks for going to sprint... not bad but not good enough... for me.....

As more and more time elapses with no new update reports in such a large community, a word keeps entering my head. I try to ignore it, sometimes even close my eyes but its still there. The word...

Photoshop!!!

J/k. Kinda figured we needed a good old fashioned conspiracy theory to break the monotony.

Well guys, try as I might, I couldn't wait for the ota. So I downloaded the file that was provided by Toddsts I think it was? Anyway, I followed the directions from the XDA thread and it was a painless upgrade. I am not rooted and have ZERO experience with Hboot or recovery.

I'm happy to report that there's a noticible improvement in speed!! Visually everything looks sharper and there are minor UI tweaks throughout. The sense flipclock actually flips now which is nice and the fading screen animations are a nice touch.

As far as battery life it's hard to tell - but I'd say its the same if not a little worse. We'll see what happens after a few days.

Either way I'm enjoying my warm gingerbread!! :)

Also: I know it wasn't coming to the Incredible in the Gingerbread update but I kinda wish it had the CRT lock animation. I've seen it on the Nexus and its so cool!!

My phone just randomly rebooted and I was so excited! And when I started it back up, the screen was back to the screen when you first took it out of the box. Then...!!!

Nothing.

Almost cried. Can I has meh gingerbread please!!!

I believe the Incredible checks for updates every 14-21 days. Once your phone is up for update, the next time you hit that checkpoint, your phone registers the available update.

I believe most phones just notify you at that time and bam. However, there may be some reasons the update notice doesn't hit and at that time, the check for updates is useful.

This is why it is rare the check for updates works but the date trick was more successful.

Either way, you have to be on the list before your phone will get it either way ...... that can not be overcome.

So, we all wait.

Just received the official update. The clock tiles actually flip after almost a year and a half. Who needs a new phone! Ha

Any problems that u've noticed so far?....specifically like apps on the sd card not showing up like others have reported.

I got the update this morning. Took about 15 minutes to complete the install. On restart I saw a message about Mobi Defense having to foreclose twice. Several apps don't work - I just see android icons for them & nothing happens when I click on them. But there are other apps, that I pretty surely moved to SD card, are working fine. I have the original incredible that has never been rooted. I'll try to find solution for non working apps - if I find anything I'll post it here.

Update - I went to the market on my phone to see if the non-working apps need an update & found that those apps don't appear under "my apps". I think I had about 117 apps installed before the update but now it shows only 48 installed. I wondering how to go about recovering them - maybe they'll just have to be reinstalled.
