What is this 2.2 PB31IMG? If I load it will it erase everything on the phone?

Yeah, it'll bring you back to day 1 stock Froyo. I made a writeup geared toward root users but it'd apply to your situation just the same. Ignore the stuff about s-on:
http://androidforums.com/incredible-all-things-root/181255-how-downgrade-official-2-2-a.html

It's flashed the same way, in hboot, MUST have the Fat32 format for this one. If you did have some oddity making your phone seem not stock in some way, that should fix it.

Try your other ideas first. If push comes to shove and you don't get the update, in theory this should ensure the ability to update either OTA or the update.zip method you've been using. Hopefully it's just been the card all along giving you problems. That'd be the simplest answer.

Received the OTA this morning (S.E. Michigan). I had issues with programs saved to SD, but reinstalled rather than trying to fix wholesale.

Boot is superfast, even with a large number of plug-ins.

Haven't noticed difference in battery, although it's still early, and I've been using the phone quite a bit.

Biggest difference so far, for me, is the size of the amount of space used on the device itself by certain programs that I've moved to SD. For example, Netflix previously used about 16 MB of device memory even after I moved it to SD. Now it lists 764 KB used on the device. I have a number of book reader apps that were about 8 or 9 MB each. Now each is less than 2 MB.

I assume this is due to a more complete move of the "lib files" as someone here explained.

Well, tried a new card that I reformatted to FAT32 and nada!

Would you be able to tell if I had an issue by what some of my software info says?

Baseband Version: 2.15.00.07.28
Kernel version: 2.6.32.17-g9a2fc16
htc-kernel@u18000-Build-149 #1
Build number: 3.26.605.1 CL264707 release-keys
Software number: 3.26.605.1

Not sure if that will tell anything. I saw another person's software info online when they updated manually to Froyo and their kernel and build number was different.

Getting very frustrating here.

I am going to see if I get the OTA and see if that installs. If not then I may have to, I hate to say it, try what you say.

Looks perfect stock to me. I don't believe it has to do with your previous update method either. That's a legit way to update which is why the option is in the stock hboot and recovery. Don't worry, you'll get GB one way or another.

Thanks just got me worried because I saw a picture from way back last summer that showed a difference in the kernel and build number.

Too little too late. I've rooted already and the experience has been phenomenal. I won't be returning to stock for this.

Yeah.. I waited forever for stock Gingerbread... now rooted with CM7.. I'll never go back. I hope the RUU Gingerbread is released soon though, I'd love to give it a shot against CM7.

I did the same thing, waited forever and then rooted recently. I've been running the Nils Gingersense Rom and loving it. It does seem a little laggy at times and the battery doesn't seem to be drastically improved. Been considering giving CM7 a try soon.

But I still keep coming back to this damn thread. It's the dingos that drag me back.:D

Dingos are still running things. I mean, come on, the new official OTA people are receiving is littered with Sprint s. I think Verizon used the EVO RUU. And the "hacked"ROMS are faulty? Please!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Huh, I'm rooted but never loaded the CM7. I JUST got notification the OTA for 2.3.4. I thought rooted phones don't get OTA updates.

You will if you kept a stock room... i'm certainly no expert but it has something to do with having a stock recovery i think (something like that? someone please correct me if i'm wrong:))

You still get the notification but it won't install. The custom recovery blocks it. The developer has to remove the ota updater for you to not get the update notification (or you can disable it yourself).

I woke up this morning to find my phone dead. I plugged it in and notice that I have a data connection. I decided to go to about phone system updates and I see that it is downloading gingerbread!! It finishes, but now it will not let me install as the battery is too low. Sooo close.

How long is the phone supposed to stay on the "eye" boot screen after the update. 5 minutes and counting, and getting a little nervous something went wrong with the update.

Got the OTA message early this morning. Tried to install it, but it just sat there stuck on rebooting phone... (even though the phone wasn't really rebooting). I'm rooted using unrevoked3, with the stock ROM.

Not a big deal, because I'm thinking about installing a custom ROM anyway, but I just thought I would share my experience.

Received my update this morning.

Also had to reinstall any apps on the SD card, but thankfully I moved big ones over to the phone.
