Exactly how do i get stock 2.2 on there without rooting? I am interested in doing that now. I am only interested in rooting if i never get the update.

This works on both rooted and non-rooted phones, ignore/skip anything root related, you're just doing the general procedure. If you already have your card formatted to FAT32 for some reason, use the first option (PB31IMG on SD card). If not, use the RUU option toward the bottom of the OP. You download that .exe file to a PC and run it from there while phone is hooked up to USB port. This will wipe the phone to out of the box 2.2 so you may want to plan ahead for losing apps. Also, make sure all your contacts are set up as "Google" contacts so they'll sync back later unless you have a stand alone app backing them up.

Got it this morning! I was as excited as a kid in a candy store! My phone prompted me when I was still sleeping, so I clicked it and went back to bed, only to wake up completely Gingerbreaded!

I can't wait to see the difference in the performance...I'm gunna be messing around with it all day

Stop it! Now you're all just teasing me!

Got the update this morning here in West Central Illinois. Did notice that after the update, my battery level was way down. I do see the Sprint info on Market. Seems like all of my apps are still on my phone. Possibly a better signal here in my office than before, but not certain. Like the flip clock.

I am not rooted. I used to use Z4 to temp root for certain apps, but haven't for several months. All stock.

did you remove any of the crapware? if you did then its not stock and this can block the update from installing as it checks for these apps. it really has to be a virgin froyo to install properly.

Update received here in Tucson, Arizona. I was pleasantly surprised. Had no idea this was even hitting the Dinc at all. Now to see if my battery life improved.

yeah I remember that from the 2.2 update a bunch of folks that just removed the crap-ware ended up either reinstalling 2.1 virgin then updating or playing around trying to find the right combination that the update liked...

So...just to not scare anyone if it happens to them....but, after getting the OTA update and it installing and everything....My 1st real bootup took FOREVER! It hung for about 10-15 minutes on that screen with the red eye and two mirrored dots moving back n forth. The dots stopped moving and it hung for a very long time. Just beware if this happens to you

It is clear that the apps on the SD card need to be reinstalled. Here is the fastest way that I found to do that without losing data:

- Get the SuperBox application from the Market
- Use the App2SD function
- Select "ON SD Card" on the top menu
--- Presto, all your old apps are there
- Select ALL the APPS and move them to the phone

Once they are on the phone, the app installs

Re-run the above, but select ON PHONE and move the ones you want back to the SD card.

Worked for me.

i restored a backup of 2.2 i made right after i rooted and didn't make any other changes and it didn't like it. i had to flash the 2.2 froyo ruu floating around to get it to a state that the ota finally liked.

Received my update here in SoCal around 3-4am. =)

My battery life was already pretty awesome, will be interesting to find out how much better it got!

Got my update this morning, in East Texas. I already DO NOT like the missing "vibrate, silent mode" missing from the pushing the power button. Where did that go? Aaahh!

Hope the battery life works better. Reception seems worse here at my school, but I am sitting in one place and dont remember what it was like before. Hope I am wrong.

As far as the update goes, it was FAST.

What a shocker VZW support new nothing about our problems. They are supposedly passing it along to the development team for or phone.

Those of us who have not gotten the OTA seem io be in a Groundhog day type time loop. Stuck in a day over and over with Froyo! Oh no!!!

Got the update today in Chattanooga, TN. I'm liking my new EVO on Spri... I mean my Incredible on 2.3.4. Wow this is fast. To bad I do not have time today to really sit down and mess with it.

You can get to vibrate by holding the volume down button, and silent by holding it down and then pressing volume up once. Or stick a control widget on the home screen (there are many available on the market.

Haven't received the update but with all the issues of apps disappearing would you think that if i unmount the sdcard first then did the update I could avoid missing apps?

Anyone from Ohio get the update yet?

Yep! :D I got the update around 7am this morning. Seems like the update when smoothly, but I did have to re-install some of my apps. However, my wife's phone has yet to get the update notice.

Now we need new thread on how to use the new features on Gingerbread on Inc! ;)

Got the update for both of our Incredibles this morning in Seattle. Didn't even know it was coming so was totally surprised.

Curious to check out changes/differences. When my phone first booted up after installing, MobileDefense force closed but looks to be working now and I've gone through various apps and none seem to need to be reinstalled.

One great thing about Gingerbread:

When I tap 'show pictures' on my emails, I have to double-tap 95% of the time.......and now I just tap once and my pictures show up right away! Yay!!
