Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) Update for Optimus S rolling out now

LG Optimus S Android 2.3 Gingerbread update begins rolling out | PhoneDog

Hey LG Optimus S owners, how does a warm serving of Gingerbread sound? That's precisely what you're getting starting today, as Sprint has announced that the Android 2.3 update for the Optimus S is now rolling out in stages. The update is build number LS670ZVH and is expected to make its way to each and every Optimus S within the next 10 days. Once the new software makes it to your neck of the woods, you'll find the following improvements:

  • Volume adjustment from handset when backlight is off and in a Bluetooth call
  • Initiation of a 3-way call in certain markets
  • Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
    • Updated color scheme (includes darker notification bar and black-based menus)
    • New on-screen keyboard (supports multi-touch input and a smart auto-correction function)
    • Improved cut-paste functionality
    • New integrated download application for ease in accessing downloaded files
    • Updated camera application
    • Power management and task killer applications
Sounds like a pretty tasty treat to me. If you'd like to check and see if the update is available for your handset, go to Menu > Settings > About phone> System Updates. Optimus S owners, be sure to give us a shout when you get the new software up and running. We'll be here waiting with bated breath.
 
If using gingersnap to root, will we have to unroot, then install the update, or can it update while rooted with no changes?

I can't seem to find a straight answer
 
I got the update this mourning. I couldnt receive txt for the first half the day its ok now. When I first got the update it tripped out on my SD card wouldnt read any apps. Turned the phone off and on, now its fine.
 
That list seems trivial, to me at least -- not worth the rabid anticipation. No mention of practical stuff like the ability to move Maps to SD.

And, “Power management and task killer applications” Hasn’t it already been settled that task killers are unnecessary, even harmful?
 
Got the update and now 3G and GPS won't work. If I hear one more Sprint rep tell me to pull the battery....grrrr!!! If I try voice to text, it fails...if I try to update anything I get "client error. please try again". HELP!!!!

Scrosler: Thanks! Does the custom ROM include (or enable) free WiFi Hotspot capability? Up until now, I've refused Sprint's updates and stayed on rev ZVC so that I could have free WiFi Hotspot capability through the Quicksettings app.
 
It gets worse- several times when I've woken up the display, it is all corrupted- the colors are all funky, once I just had a bunch of horizontal lines. If I hit the power button and wake it up again, it is fine.

No I am working on a WiFi tether solution and will let you know when its posted.
 
Okay...found out that "manage data networks" in Green Power had been turned on, so it kept shutting off my 3G...wonder how many more settings I need to check and see if they were "magically" changed?
 
Where is that setting located?

WiFi wont stay on either. Data stays checked for me, it just doesn't show the 3G icon (and nothing that needs data connection will work)
 
And furthermore, my gmail isn't syncing.Checked the settings, and they are still set the way they were.
EDIT- duh- guess that's cause I have no data connection.

USB storage not working either. Windows does the "find new hardware" thing- before I could just plug in USB, and the phone would ask me if I wanted to turn on USB storage.

I really liked my phone yesterday...
 
I haven't gotten mine. What's the hold up sprint? :-( Is there a way to manually update? For those who can't wait for the ota.
 
I got the new update yesterday and am not pleased. The main problem I'm having is that any time I type on the keyboard, the AutoCorrect/word suggestion only includes names from my email or address book -- no regular words from the dictionary. Grrr. I've tried re-booting, unchecking and re-checking the Word Suggestion settings, and still nothing. It's making typing slow and a mess. Any suggestions??
