Rogers 911/Sense UI Update: Post your problems here

As for the bricking can users confirm if that was just root users?
Happened to me and there is a fix I posted earlier (given similar conditions)

Also having problem that default ringtone plays, even though I chose a different ringtone for a contact.
Tried making a folder in music called ringtones and then deleted it and made a folder called ringtones in root. Same thing happens. Also tried using system sounds instead of mp3. no luck
Is anybodies working?

I had a weird problem today... Can't link it specifically to the upgrade, but since I never had any problem with my phone before the upgrade, it must have something to do with all the new problems I'm having.

I tried to make a phone call, audio was not working, I did a test calling my office line and I could hear it ring, but no sound on the phone.

I tried a few time, switching bluetooth on and off, didn't make a difference.

Finally, back to normal after a long and painful reboot, as I'm now getting used to...

(Magic) has anyone had issues with the camera?
It seems it will not take photos sometimes due to autofocus.
But if you turn off autofocus it does not take ANY pictures.

This is a network issue. I don't know what's causing it but it's not because of the update. I happened to me before the update and to my friend with Telus on a completely different phone  It's a really weird thing to not here the ringing when calling.

@magicandroid

You have to adjust volume while setting the alarm to make It louder.

If you install Tone Picker it gives you an app icon that allows you to set all volumes with individual sliders. Also lets you use custom tones for apps but this doesn't work everywhere anymore in Sense.

Hi all,

I read through this thread and was sad to see that nobody else is having the issue I'm having :(

Since doing the update I can no longer connect the phone to a PC for Sync or even to mount the SD card. When I plug in the phone I get the HTC Sync that shows up in the notification bar but the PC never shows it as connected. the option to mount the SD Card does not show up on the phone at all. I have tried a factory reset and a format of the card so far and still nothing. I have tried connecting it to a Mac, a Linux box and a Windows 7 box, same thing on all of them, the mount USB option is missing. Honestly I dont care about Syncing as I have never done that, don't see a need for it personally but not being able to mount the card is totally annoying!

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Ed.

Just wanna give a quick update...

Weirdest thing, After many more hours of troubleshooting I made no progress. Finally I gave up and figured I would deal with it one day. I plugged it into my work PC yesterday to charge and it works now! I have no frakin clue why it works again and I don't think I did anything to make it work again. Weird weird weird...lol. Weird but I'll take it!

Thanks all.

Problem #1. My HTC Magic stops respond, and force restart regularly, after Sense UI Update.
Problem #2. Cannot use Google talk via stock Contact List.

I did the update. so far no big problems. still fooling around with small things in settings, apps email etc. here's my biggest problem, not sure if its cause of the update but I used to get facebook messages sent to my text. I've uninstalled facebook mobile, reinstalled. on pc and phone. resent facebook conformation code. still nothing.
any help would be appreciated. tkxs

problems i've noticed:

1. gallery doesn't list png files. could've sworn default android gallery does.

2. in the original android contacts, i was able filter the list to show only 'My Contacts' from my google contact list. but the option is no longer there when i use People in senseui, it only seems to show 'All Contacts' so i have a contact list filled with people i've happened to interact with in gmail in the past that aren't really my contacts. it's annoying. i have to keep deleting these so called contacts just to keep the people list clean. any way to get the stock contacts back? >_<

about the only thing i like in senseui is the 7 screens. all the other crap just seems like unnecessary bloat.

Element27, I had a problem very much like the one you described.

My problem turned out to be the cable. I found I was only able to mount the SD card when I used the HTC cable that came with my phone, and NOT a plain-vanilla USB cable.

Note that the mini-USB connector that comes with the HTC Dream and HTC Magic is slightly unusual.

- Bluetooth activation of Voice Dialer (even using 3rd party) MIGHT not be working. We need to confirm

I love the new UI for my Magic. Unfortunately my bluetooth doesn't appear to be working anymore.

When I am in my car the display on my car indicates that the phone is connected, but if I look under bluetooth settings on my phone the pairing status with my car shows "Connecting....". It just hangs at that point and never reaches connected. If I try to make a call I get to the point of selecting the person I want to call, but I my cars display just reads "Dialing" and nothing occurs after that. I have deleted the pairing from both my car and phone and completed the pairing process from scratch, but I still get the same result.

I spoke to a Rogers tech support person and they want me to reset the phone via the factory data reset under setting->SD card & phone storage, and test the bluetooth at the previous build version. Then proceed to complete the update again. I really don't see any point to this. if the update didn't work properly then I don't think it would have successfully finished the first time. Everything else works fine except for bluetooth.

Does this sound similar to the bluetooth problems others have reported?

The rep didn't say "previous build" did he? The reset simply puts the current build back to stock as last updated. You won't and can't go back to the older version. I doubt that you could reflash the update (you already have the current version) but if you could then that isn't a horrible idea if you are resetting anyway.
However a factory reset and then testing BT without any other installs isn't a bad idea. Then you'll know if something else is conflicting or if indeed a bug.

Honestly, I don't remember if he specifically used those words. I may be mistakenly interpreting what he said. When I was told to reset my phone I thought that meant I would go from the my current build version 3.05.631.7 to the previous version before the update, which was 2xx. What exactly would the factory reset change (e.g., build, kernel, baseband, firmware version)?

This probably isn't a bug and has always been that way for me but could someone else check call forwarding? You can set Always Forward or go to voice mail. You can't for example set Forward When Unreachable. The options are there but you can't change them to anything useful.

I also noticed this and it's really annoying to have anyone who happens to email me over gmail or vice versa show up as a contact on the phone. So I then have to delete them from either place.

I was the one who initially posted that call forwarding wasn't working. I got rid of my voicemail plan and forward my calls to Google Voice. After the update, I realized that people weren't getting my voicemail so that's when I realized that my settings had been reset. No amount of tries would allow me to set it, not even those *21*[phone#] codes.

Rogers Tech had to manually set it on their end.

So if you have a Google Voice account you can forward the calls to your cell phone to there? How does that work? Does it forward automatically without ringing at your cell phone or does it direct it to Google Voice if you don't answer after so many rings? I too do not have voicemail but it would be nice to have calls directed somewhere if I can't or don't answer.

To be fair I don't think this is a firmware bug. This is corporate policy and one of the reasons I left cell phones years ago. The settings for this are not stored on the phone which makes sense and no matter how you try to set it (* codes from another phone etc) it never gets set.

Way back in the day when we were first looking at competition as a way to fix this broken industry a little startup called Fido had the same setting where a call could auto forward to a number of your choosing which came in handy if your phone didn't work inside your own house or work. That setting is still there on Rogers but just like Bell and all the rest, it doesn't work. That's by design and no doubt makes them a few pennies more than letting us configure to our own needs.

But since the settings are still there then let's call it a bug since they don't work. But it is the same for all phones and goes back many years.

something like that yes. In my case it was so that once I got to my house and had an unusable signal my calls would auto forward to the house phone. Or simply turning off the phone would start the forwarding. Once back in range it would ring normally. I don't understand their long standing policy against such a feature and as such why the settings are even there if they don't work. It forces you to buy the voice mail feature.

I think you answered your question in the last sentence :) That is exactly what it is all about.
