I been trying for two hours sitting in mcdonalds trying to unroot. Just want to unroot thru sync using the correct ruu. the more threads I read more confusing it gets. Where is correct ruu?? Thanks

1) What was your root method?
2) What is your hboot version? (turn the phone off, then turn it back on while pressing and holding volume down)

I suggest you read the rooting for dummiest guide, as well, but if you answer those two questions, we can help get your in the right direction.

Trust me, anyone can figure this stuff out; it just takes time to learn it all. I'm sure you're plenty smart enough :). In any case, turn the phone off, then turn it back on while pressing and holding volume down. That'll take you to hboot, which is just your bootloader. It's how you basically interact with the phone before it's loaded anything. In there, you will see up at the top what hboot version you have. You'll see something like 0.97, 2.02, 2.10, etc. Have you flashed the unrevoked s-on tool, or do you even know what that means?

I am very new to this. Don't even know what hboot is. But it said 2.10. 0001. I tried the two steps found on youtube. And others. Never seen to have the right file to finish. In the two steps file I got the s on but the 36img was wrong or something.

Can't try it tonight. No home Internet. Have to go back to McDonalds tomorrow. Hope it works. Thank you. When you say root on sd does that just mean copy to sd or some exact location?? Never seen a folder say root

Sorry, the word root is thrown around a lot, and means different things in different contexts. In the context of a file structure, it means the top level. So, just put the file at the top level of the sdcard, as in, not in any folders.

I was on the right track and your help got me there I believe. How can I check to see if all original. Superuser is gone I downloaded a ton of files today. Had the right one just had to name it right and put in right location. Thanks alot.

Now I just need to make sure root gone so I can take it in tomorrow. How?

You say superuser is gone, and that's a good start. Are all your apps gone? This should have wiped your phone clean, making it look like it did the day you bought it. All settings and apps should be reset to default.

Also, go to menu->settings->about phone->software information, and list what you see there.

Okay, good. And if you reboot back into hboot, then select recovery, where does it take you? Also, remove that PC36IMG.zip file, if you haven't already. It will continue to scan for it every time you go hboot, and you don't need it to keep finding it.

I hate resurrecting old threads. But, I have been searching for an unroot method for days now, and I happened to stumble across this one. I downloaded the PC36IMG and it worked great. You guys are life savers. What would I do without this forum? :)

Same here! I have been everywhere trying to find either 1) a working RUU, or 2) a working PC36IMG. I've seriously been through nearly 2 dozen threads (Between here, XDA, and SDX) and FINALLY this one works!!!

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well to completely be unrooted you need to install a stock recovery and a stok rom. here is the file you will need: PC36IMG_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.24.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.05.02_NV_2.15_release_.zip

just rename the file by deleting everythig but PC36IMG part. do not add an extra zip to the name as windows hides extensions.

transfer the file to the root of the card. that means it needs to be just on the card and not in any folder.

go into hboot. if it is named correctly and in the right place, hboot should see it and will ask you to update. select yes and you should be fully unrooted.

Purchased a replacement Evo4g on ebay. Guy sold as clean esn; tried to activate and phone won't activate. Took to Sprint Store and thet said phone had been rooted and they would not help any further. Anyone out there know if wiping this phone clean (unrooting) will do the trick?
