Hello everyone, long time lurker first time poster. I finally decided to join to see if I could offer any insight and draw from the knowledge of everyone here. I don't know if joeyray15's question was closed, but I wanted to add a little info if he/she was interested.
The Eris has a Qualcomm MSM7600 CPU while the Sprint Hero has Qualcomm MSM7525 CPU. Both are clocked at 528MHz (unless the OS determines otherwise) and both have a ARM1136EJ-S core using ARMv6 instruction sets so processing power should be almost identical. Both are 65nm chips so power draw would be about the same depending on usage. The 7600 seems to have support for both GSM and CDMA radios depending on what the manufacturer decides to use. Basically they are exactly the same performance wise.
To not drift too far off topic, I would bet that Sense could be dropped onto 2.0 or 2.1 with little problem because I doubt Google removed API calls unless they were horribly ineffecient or replaced with a different API call that added additional functionality. I think that HTC is taking this opportunity to enhance and provide additional functionality to Sense that would be available with the new API libraries added in 2.0 and 2.1. Then again I could be off and HTC just wants to see us suffer while they sit sipping single malt 30 year old scotch and smoking fine cuban cigars... but I hope not!
