Eris to v2.x, when?

Not sure what 2.2 is (supposedly) going to contain, but it's interesting.

The next release will be Froyo. Not sure if that will be 2.x or 3.x. Google stated 2.1 is still an Eclair point release, so who knows.

I know that one of the things they are adding in Froyo is encrypted application storage to removable memory so that you are not limited by internal memory.

Does anyone seriously know if the Hero or the Eris processor is better or more current? what i would like to know is if the Eris is slighter more superior or inferior to the Hero.

I'm pretty sure because it was released later, the Eris is slightly more powerful. It shares some similarities, though. Not sure which ones, though. Check HTC's website.

I did but i'm not technically savvy enough to know which model is better and i tried to google it but could not understand most of it and a lot of the info is before the eris was released.

Eris is with Verizon and Hero is with Sprint. That might be enough to go on if you're trying to decide between the two. Verizon claims the better network.

Not to start a Sprint vs Verizon debate, but for those of us with hearing difficulties Verizon wins by a large margin; the quality of the sound coming over the same or similar model of phone has always been superior in Alltel/Verizon for me and others I know who've noticed.

As far as coverage goes, they're probably pretty close to the same. As far as customer service goes, Spring may be on top in that department. <------ just anecdotal opinion :o

I thought they were both the same, the eris if I remember correctly is just a repackaged hero.

Hardware-wise, the Eris is slightly thinner and has a proximity sensor for when you put the phone to your ear. For performance, the Eris has been described as slightly faster, but they have the same internals.

To those of you who have purchased via amazon or wirefly, do you have anyconfidence that if you got a glitchy unit you'd be able to return it?

The price is great, but if you have to get some real help with serious issues after the sale, is the store the way to go? I really don't know- the store may not have great policies for helping out with this stuff...

For some reason this week, the speaker for when you put up to your ear has been incredibly loud for me! It's like using speakerphone without actually using speakerphone lol. Verizon has good call quality!

DOOD! Ever since I got my Eris I've had amazingly clear and loud front speaker quality too! I've always liked HTC for their superior devices and their specs, and I was thinking that this was just proof of that... As I've said in other forums, I love the perks this phone has to offer over the rest. Coming from an i910 Omnia (which I loved btw), this is a completely different world for me, and I'm lovin it!

I received my Eris from Wirefly and it was a brand new retail packaged phone. I have never had a problem with wirefly. I bought my first phone from them about 6 years ago (TMobile Sony ericcson) then my moto razr and my LG Dare. They were all great phones at the time (Except the Dare, I always hated that phone) and now my Eris. Now, I tell you my history to say this... Wirefly has been around for quite a while and I have never read or heard anything bad about them. I have never had a problem with a phone, but I cant imagine that if they had an atrocious return or support policy they would still be moving the number of phones that they do. ( I know I am an optomist, this is possible, im just saying its not very likely)

The other thing is that its still a Verizon phone, they are just a re-seller. I took my MotoRazr back to the Verizon store several times during the time I had it and they supported me and gave me a warranty replacement even though I didnt buy directly from them. The only thing I think the support model in store may be different is during the first 30 days. I dont know if Verizon would take the phone back then and give you your money back. That is also probably unlikely. You would have to deal with wirefly.

When the update is released, what happens to the content on our phones? Does it erase everything (contacts, sms, apps) and start you with a clean slate? On that note, if you bought an app$$$ and it gets erased, can you get it back without buying it again?

I don't believe an OTA update would wipe your phone. Keep in mind your contacts are synced to your Google Account, so even if you wipe your phone they should resync to your phone upon logging in. And yes, you can get back any apps that you bought in the past without paying for them again.

yeah 10-4
Nothing I can see on their site says anything about satisfaction guaranteed or returning defective devices...so I'm cautious.
Good to hear you got actual support from V Store after the sale. Those guys certainly deserve to make money but frankly most of them do not seem to be very helpful. And it's a mob scene in there usually. Take a number like the deli. They should really have THE inside scoop helping us make the right purchases and have all the details. They seem to be a bit lackluster and not totally on-the-ball- so why go there and spend an extra $100? Honestly, probably only if you're a fairly uneducated consumer who just wants a fast decision and to walk away with a device on the spot.

I apologize to the good reps; obviously there are always people that stand head and shoulders above the crowd.

My son in law was having problems with his Eris not receiving SMS messages. He spent a lot of time on the phone with them while doing a reboot of his phone. He asked when he could expect to get the 2.0 up date and the guy answered that we'll be getting 2.0.1 not 2.0 and that the Eris customers will be waiting until near the end of March. So I guess we can ad this to the list of "I heards" and "they saids".

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw a picture of a photocopy of a Memo from Verizon saying the Android 2.1 update would happen on February 29th!
