Root Not Bricked - But Im Stuck...

Ok, I got myself an Optimus V in the end of august. It came with 2.2.2.

Here was/is my plan...

Followed all directions from this post that is pinned here

http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-...-how-simplified-root-recovery-custom-rom.html

Everything is fine until get up to step #7. When I try to boot into "clockworkmod recovery mode" i get a black screen. Happens the same when doing it by pressing home volume down and power or the option in rom manager.

I can pull the battery and reboot and the phone functions fine. What can I do? I am new at this but A+ in computers.

Try reflashing the recovery. Sounds like it might not have taken. If the same thing happens, try flashing it using RomTools or by using post #4 in that instructional tutorial that AndyOpie lays out for us. Hope this helps.

Actually what seems to be my problem is that busy box didnt install correctly. Theres two busyboxes in the market...busybox and busybox installer.

I tried just using the first 'busybox' one...to no avail. I tried the 'busybox installer' one next and i get a failed to copy over busybox to /system/xbin/ when trying to install.

It does say that i am rooted in the busybox installer info.

Whats the best plan of attack?

Unfortunately I have no experience with busybox. If your phone is fine except for the recovery and it's showing it's rooted, my geuss would be to install that recovery. Again, not experienced with busybox so hopefully someone more intelligent on this subject can help.

I believe i did install the recovery, it just doesnt show on the boot. Pretty much stuck at this point.

Oh that's not good. You can still salvage it. I'm on my phone now and my links are on my computer. Don't give up!!

Well, this is no fun. Really wishing i never went on this venture tonight.

Managed to get the phone plugged in via usb in emergency mode. Could not get kdz to work with it

don't use kdz!
there is no useable firmware for the OV released by LG or Virgin that I've been able to find (the .cab files are missing key .dll files and won't unpack fully.)
All you can flash with kdz is Sprint firmware, and that will lose your data service if you flash it.

you can also try the fix mmarz posted on AC, here
I believe zefie posted the mtd8 formatting reference first, but maybe he got it from someone else, I dunno.

Way too involved. Heading to BB to see if i can get it exchanged being that its still in the 30 day window and then NEVER rooting a cell phone again.

interesting that a full flash with kdz is acceptable but a few lines sent through adb is too involved.
yes, if you're unwilling or unable to use command line instructions, you probably shouldn't try to root a phone.

I just have no more time to invest trying things out to no avail trying to fix this, time is money.

understandable. it took me almost two hours to find the method in the link I posted when I had the factory reset bootloop, (xionia recovery could not fix mine) and another 15 minutes to get the timing right to force adb to format mtd8.
