Help Help!!! Stuck on white

I'm new to flashing roms and rooting phones but I succeeded flashing a new rom on my Droid X with no problems at all. So I took my friends Droid Incredible and gave it a shot. I downloaded the MIUI rom for the Dinc and it loaded up just fine. I used ROM Manger to backup and flash the new rom. All went well, sadly I noticed I messed up on saving the contacts on the phone so I used Rom manger to restore the phone back to its original state (before i flashed the new rom). It rebooted on its own and I noticed it was getting stuck on the white "HTC Incredible" screen. I pulled the battery and went and cleared all the data and cache and tried doing a restore. It said it was successful so I went to reboot the system and it still gets stuck on the white screen.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Possible that you may have ended up with a bunk backup. Looking at the file size may lend a clue to that. But in any event, if a nandroid restore fails, the only sensible option left is to full wipe and flash your way to a different rom. In this case, with the unfortunate side effect of losing the contacts UNLESS they were set up as Google contacts in which case they'll sync back on any rom.

Would there be anyway to flash a stock HTC incredible rom (out of the box setup) so I can take it back to Verizon and have them load up my contacts? Where could i get a stock incredible rom at?

How is Verizon going to get your contacts back if you wiped them?

Well, before I did the first whipe I did save all contents of the SD card and phone storage onto my computer. I dont see anything that says contacts in either of these locations though. Could they be there (just im not seeing them)?

Also, I did a titanium backup (thought that would save my contents at least it did on my Droid X) will this help? I tried restoring contacts from the titanium restore but it didnt work.

Whoa, here we go. This may be salvagable. So you did a Titanium backup while on 2.2 (Froyo) is that correct? So we're dealing with the "People" app. If that's the case, you can indeed load a 2.2 rom and then restore the People app. Once you have that done, CONVERT THEM TO GOOGLE CONTACTS so you don't have to worry about this next time. Worst case, export them to the SD card. Anyway, now we need to find a 2.2 rom, haven't seen any around in awhile. Virtuous was always a good choice, only thing I'm iffy about is loading any 2.2 Roms with newer versions of Clockwork (version 3.x or newer). MAY have to revert back to Clockwork 2.x, if memory serves, they changed the scripting with the Gingerbread roms. Let me do a little digging, be right back.

Sounds good, btw I reloaded the MIUI rom and the phone is up and running again (at least I got past the white screen of death), but im still missing my contacts so I hope you can find something (over 100 numbers gone) :(

Come to think of it, People should be restorable on any stockish rom but since I'm assuming you came from stock 2.2, might as well load a stock 2.2 Rom like you mentioned to be the closest setup possible.

Ok so here's what I would try. Use this link:
[ROM] HTC Droid Incredible Stock ROMs w/malware patch(NOV OTA) (UPDATED 3/14/11) - xda-developers

Load the "Stock Rom Rooted" (3.25.605.1). Jay made this such that it will flash with the newer Clockwork. Do a full wipe, flash it, boot up. Then restore your "People" app via Titanium. Once your contacts are back, convert them to Google. Then you can flash whatever you want and you should be good.

Yeah, I can't remember how MIUI works for sure, but I'm assuming we're talking about a "Contacts" app vs the "People" app that is used in stock roms. They don't convert between each other unfortunately, but the Titanium backup and the plan above should do the trick I think.

You good with placing the rom on the sd card and loading directly through Clockwork? If not, I can lay out the steps if you've never done it that way before.

Alright, I will give this a try. Wish me luck. I will report back ASAP.

Ya, thats how i loaded MIUI, same thing right?

Sorry, I thought you said you used Rom Manager but that was for the backup/restore. Carry on, it's getting late and I'm getting tired. I.E. not paying attention to detail. ;) Might hit the bed soon, if so will check back in the a.m. for results.

Just remembered something. Restoring "People" app might not cut it. I think you might have to restore some sytem data...namely [Contacts/Calls]Contacts Storage 2.2.

Looks like it worked, now I just need to figure out how to back up these contacts (first time doing this).

Edit:

I tried Google sync and that was a big failure (or i just dont know how to use it), then I tried exporting the contact to my SD card which it did but only exported 12 contacts out of the 100 or so I have. So I have no idea whats going on. Any other suggestions?

After hours I finally figured this thing out. The phone is running stable now on the latest version of MIUI and all my contacts are loaded on the phone. Thanks for the help!

Were you able to get them all exported finally, then re-import as Google contacts? Or did you use another method?

I found out that my friend already had a google account with his contacts on it when he traded in his old phone to Verizon. Wish I would of known that the first time around

But thanks again for the help, got some great experience with smart phones now so I guess it wants all bad.

But the method of reverting the phone back to stock android 2.2 and doing a restore with the Titanum backup restored the phone exactly how it was before I started all of this mess, so that was good to know and it worked perfectly.
