***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Hi guys, checking in.

I don't know whether Steven's source was trying to give you an idea of what the CPU is, or was maybe just trying to give you an overall feel for why Verizon is so excited about the RAZR.

Anyhow, I can tell that you guys are pretty disappointed. That probably wasn't the idea the source had in mind.

While I can't specify the internals, I can tell you that the Nexus device WAS the finalist for the "Gamer and Entertainment Enthusiast", and it would have won, too.

:-)

What you can tell the gang:
The idea I'm getting from official testers is that the screen and user experience is much better in the Nexus device, and the overall advantage is the presence of Ice Cream Sandwich (I've personally noted this to be true).

First of all, I'd like to thank the "Source" for risking his/her job to give us the little snippets. As much as we get frustrated from time to time, I think the tease is part of the fun!

This last tease is nothing but good news. The NP has a "much better" screen and user experience. In addition the overall advantage is ICS. I realize they are comparing the NP to another phone we have no real world experience with but I'd rather hear that than "the Razer rocks!".

oh god i love you, pls marry me!

long lives the gamer :D

right ~10 minutes ago i was thinking about buying a Galaxy S2, and now i want to wait for the NP again... i think i'll never get a new smartphone ~.~

just kiddin, hope it will be released soon (in germany, too)

the light, it is being seen!

Yep, you and I are getting free beers come ship day. Right guys?

Following that, I found statements by their VP that were contradictory on what their real deal was regarding resolution and tried to suggest that those might be best resolved for all concerned, but nothing seemed to come of that.

I read through all of their web docs, and while the underlying technology does have legitimate benefits, many of their claims were bogus or exaggerated. IMO, a decent technology marketed sleazy.

And further technical discussion revealed that while there are lots of claims regarding pentile resulting in power savings - those claims are only specific to particular use cases and don't really apply across the board - and that was confirmed by their CEO.

Interesting, I wonder what those are (offline). But I'd leave it up to the phone manufacturers themselves to decide which screen technology to use... and to live with whatever battery life consequences that means for the users.

They seem like nice people, I don't want anyone out of a job, but I really wish someone would drive a stake through that technology, it's just not needed anymore.

I'm not [yet] convinced of that. Eyes are more sensitive to certain colors than others. White subpixels are more efficient than a combination of RGB subpixels. And pixel grain does become less noticeable at higher densities. It makes sense to use designs that maximize strengths and minimize weaknesses without regard to what ostensibly seems elegant or symmetrical.

Back on topic, heck, I would be happy with a 1.4 GHz Exynos 4210 (which we know exist, as in Galaxy Note and Tab 7.7) in the Nexus Prime.

Mega-ditto. :)

I am not disappointed. I'm very excited that the RAZR compares favorably to the Nexus. Thanks for helping us through this tough time!

So... TI OMAP 4460 + the GPU from the iPad or better...does that please the spec hoes enough?

The difference is processors is negligible enough, I take connectivity (ANT+, Bluetooth Low Energy) over a few frames in some handheld game. BTW ... 10/11/11 @ 11:11.10 still has hope! Forza Motorsports 4!!! There is your gaming experience.

Thanks! I knew that Steven's source didn't mean to give a false impression. I think that was my fault for jumping the gun.

Thanks again! :D

if it's the 4460, it can't have the 543mp2.

Oh brother, here we go again. Please. No more.

My first post, but I been reading this thread for the last 4 days. I think was happening we are dissecting every little detail a source gives. We are confusing ourselves by this, if someone says they bump their toe. It means this processor or that will not be in the NP. Instead of taking what the source or sources is really saying.
I believe Tuesday or maybe Wednesday we will get more info concerning the NP, maybe the new date for the announcement!! We need to clam down and be a little more patient and we will get all the info we wanted!! But I do enjoy all the humor from everyone!! Its hilarious!!!

Welcome to the forums! :)

Sorry, I was just being silly. Boy, I seem to be rubbing a lot of people the wrong way today.

I only mean to be rubbing some of you the right way. :(

Anyway, in my opinion, I think that there is some evidence for Exynos and some evidence against it.

I hope for your sake and r4yN, that it's true. I just don't do games on phones, so I'll be happy with whatever it has.

Yes. I'm fully back on the Prime wagon. For at least the next 24 hours.

Woo hoo! :D

but you would accept 30% less power consumption, which the exynos 4212 features, wouldn't you? ;)

was there an entertainment only category?

because to me, gaming and entertainment could simply mean the nexus has the best screen for viewing movies/pictures/etc. i think the group of people expecting the exynos should hope for it, but expect the 4460. better to be pleasantly surprised than let down, right?

come on han... i know you want it, too ;)

Well look who's in a better mood.

I try to talk you back into the Prime, and you go "Eh, maybe you're right."

VZ drops in like Superman with a cryptic phrase and you're all "Oooh, baby, I love you, marry me, ooooh yeah baby yeah!"

LOL

:D

I'm going to be a sad panda if the Prime screen looks anything the current crop of Pentile screens. I know it's much higher resolution so it shouldn't, but still... The X2/Bionic screens bug the crap out of my eyes, especially because I read a lot on the phone. One of the links a page or two back claimed it was no disappointment because they thought the X2 screen looked great but I think it looks fugly.

OMAP vs. Exynos doesn't matter to me; I don't game on my phone and would honestly just prefer the processor that gives the best battery life assuming no enormous discrepancy in day-to-day performance.

We'll see!

ok i have to admit that you're probably right... but hey im kinda nervous... waiting almost 1/2 year for a phone that might be disappointing to me isn't what i'm dreaming about...

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think that 30% less would affect battery life much since the VAST MAJORITY of consumption is from the display. But still go exynos! :)

why no iPad GPU on TI?

Perhaps it also has to do with USB Host and support for external gaming devices and dLNA mirroring?
