Root Data enabled, but does not work...

Hey guys,

Maybe you can help me here, as I have no idea what to do anymore, and I've done a lot, trying to figure this out (not to mention all my tech friends helping me with this issue, too).

I have an Optimus V with VM (obviously). About two months ago, I had the phone rooted, and had bloatware removed.

Since then, the 3G/data network has not been working-- Not wure what the deal is. To verify, if you go to Settings>>Wireless & Networks>>Mobile Networks, it IS enabled, but when you go to Settings>>About Phone>>Status, and check the Mobile Network State, it says disconnected.

Things I have done:

*Turned Airplane mode on/off
*turned phone on/off, removed battery
*reactivated phone
*redid the master lock thing (I'd go into this one, the whole dial hashes/stars, etc)
*verified settings with the same phone/plans

And various other things... I'm not the best with the whole smart phone rooting thing (I had a friend do it for me who knows this stuff), and even he can't figure out what's going on. More than likely I may have to reflash the thing, but I was hoping that there may be something y'all may be able to help me, give me some ideas, etc.

For the record, calls, texts, internet (while on wifi) and all that work, but the data network for internet and 3G does NOT work.

It's baffling.

Thanks for any kind of input you can give, it's much appreciated!

Have you flashed a rom? And what exactly did you remove? You may have accidentally deleted a vital system app. Did you make a backup before you started messing with your system files. I hope for your sake you did. If so, just restore your backup and it should work.

I left all integral stuff on there, just removed the bloatware-- like Scavenger and Where and whatever. We used a list from one of the forums to determine what to remove, and it was just the bloat-- Again, left everything in place aside from bloat.

As for backup, I did do that, and it still did nothing (I had SU and Titanium), and nothing. We even reset the phone to original settings, and that didn't do anything either, and all I can think of is when the phone was rooted. My friend who rooted it also removed the same stuff from his phone, and he doesn't have the same issue.

This isn't a super huge issue as there's wifi everywhere I go, but what if, you know? It's an annoyance, more than anything.

dude, i have the same exact problem... i rooted and etc before i actiavted my phone, activated it the other night and now i have no data connection, wifi, texts calls all work, and i tried all the stuff you listed, i made a mistake using the factory reset in the privacy menu on the phone and now im stuck in recovery bootloops... i just want to unroot and start all over but im having trouble finding an sbf and all that other stuff, ill keep an eye on this post maybe someone can help us haha

I had Rooted and flashed a Rom before I activated my phone. After activation I noticed I had no data. I had to flash back to the Stock Rom then called VM. Took a couple days to get it sorted out but they had to reset my account to get data working.

You only have to flash the stock Rom as you will need the activation app when calling VM. You can leave the custom recovery if you wish. It took me 3 techs over 3 days to fianally get someone who could reset the account but the issue was fianlly fixed and I got a couple free weeks because of the account reset.

I had this same issue for around a week. I called repeatedly to no avail and tried all of the steps you tried. I was rooted but with the stock ROM. VM was no help and said they would send it to some BS review committee in another week and then I pressed the Activate button and it looked like nothing happened so I switched the screen off. When I turned it on an unknown amount of time after, I was shocked to see my 3g back. I don't know if the Activate button was related to this or not, but I think it's worth a try for you guys.

i got out of my recovery bootloop and i just reflashed stock rom, im running the activation app right now, if this doesnt work ill attempt to change my msid and msn and post back if that works

k this is exactly what i did and i now have 3g back

flashed back to stock rom, same rom diablo linked to
ran activation app... (it said cannot connect)
turned on airplane mode...
turned off airplane mode...
and bam there it was, im still rooted and im able to send texts calls etc

ill attempt to flash a custom rom and all that jazz and ill post back if theres any hiccups to let you know what not to do

I have a brand new Optimus V, but can not get networking to work. The 3G symbol does not appear on the status bar at the top of the screen.
WiFi does work, but data network has never worked. VM told me to hold
the power button on several seconds while the battery is out, but that did
not fix anything. Data is enabled on mobile network in the settings menu.

Try selecting the activate app. It might take a couple of tries. Also where you are at has an affect on the 3G signal. What does the 3G look like with the WiFi turned off? You can also try turning airplane mode on then off.

If your not rooted then maybe the next time you need to post or make a new thread to discuss a problem you might want to post in the Optimus V main forum instead of in the "All Things Root" sub-forum.

ok this is the only thread i can find that is anything close to my problem..

so i have a verizon droid 3 and rooted just yesterday..
since than my 3g hasnt been able to work but i get calls and texts just fine..
ive turned airplane mode on/off, rebooted, and uninstalled all of my downloaded apps rooted and unrooted incase it was some setting somewhere and it is still inactive..

With the V we have an activate app in case we have a problem with our data connection. You might have to call your service provider.

Dear all, I have same problem with my Sharp SH 06D (need on/off airplane mode in order to get 3G service). Does anyone has solution for this issue?

Wish we could help, but our LG Optimistic V on the Virgin Mobile network isn't even close to yours. We are provided with an activate app which works for regaining data service on our network.
You will probably have to call your network provider and see if they can re-establish your data service.

Hi All,

Phone rooted with Backside, no problems with anything. When Mobile Network is enabled, I have a 3g icon, but no connection to the Net. Everything else works as it should. Did the usual troubleshooting, and methods to get 3g to work, to no avail.

I did let my service lapse two days before paying, as I was planning on going to Sprint with my SG2. SG2 no issues with data at all.

Could the payment lapse possibly be a cause? Doesn't seem to make sense that voice, text and Wi-Fi all work fine, but 3g does not.

Thanks for your help.

Have you tried flashing the Harmonia or Resurrected Bumblebee. They have the activate app. Select it until your data service is restored (1-3 tries usually).
Don't forget to backup the BACKside ROM before you wipe and format.
Once done, make a backup of the Froyo ROM in case you have data problems in the future.

If a vital system app gets deleted, how does one restore it? And, which system apps are needed for a working internet connection? I think I may have deleted a system app on my Optimus m, I have tried restoring with just about every tutorial on the net and nothing is working. Can only receive calls and texts.

If your rooted just install a custom flash_image,recovery, and ROM. If not rooted you will need to install the ZV9 update.

I know how to fix this:
Call your service provider and ask them to help you install a APN (access point name) then turn your phone off for ten seconds then back on, then your data should work
