***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

According to some here, as soon as the chip is sampled, the board has already been designed, hardware debugged, drivers completed and software verification has already been done. All that's left is soldering on the board and boxing the product up.

It is possible that Samsung kept initial production of the completed chips for thier own use, but I find that highly unlikely, since many would consider that anticompetitive behavior.

I'm really okay with that if it means Exynos 4212 in the Prime. We can still hope. But "there is another" said Yoda.

The GLBenchmark test uses the GPU, and I don't think even Prime will catch up. Apple has one helluva nice GPU in the iPad2 and iPhone 4S, and some of us (let's not go there now!) don't believe Prime will have the Exynos 4212, which is considered to have the fastest GPU of any that might end up in Prime.

BUT... the SunSpider and Rightware benchmarks most likely are legitimate and do represent the experiences of users w/those phones.

To an extent it doesn't matter whether a performance problem is hardware or software, because the end result is still a crummy experience for the end user. But the good news is that the Android ICS browser is muuuuch faster, as are the Opera and Dolphin browsers available in the Market.

Correct me if I'm wrong...but isn't the Prime still rumored to be using the GPU that the 4S and iPad 2 are using? Couple that with everything else and I see full of win for the Nexus.

Edit: I heard from "source" today (think matrix) ^^^

I'm sorry I've been busy today. I had office professionally cleaned which meant moving stuff around. It was time consuming. Additionally, I upgraded my workplace WiFi to wireless-n from wireless-g. I've been dealing with the hassle of setting up the modem. I'm ok, now.

sounds like that improved drivers and higher clock speed (4460) i was talking about earlier today ;)

Watch at the announcement press conference, samsung announces the processor speed and leave us to guess the make.:p

What would really cause a lot of noise is if they go and announce the release date and reveal no details at all about specs.

Steven's source: As far as the Nexus goes, you can let people know that they don't have to worry about gaming speed/graphics. It'll be plenty. Also, an announcement on the unveiling is imminent. So hang tight.

No, seriously, thanks! :D

oh c'mon... as much as i love new information, i hate those 'riddles' which do not contain any specific data...

we're still where we have been 2 months ago... (almost) speculation only :/

What? "announcement imminent" is not good enough for you? (tough crowd) :p

1000 posts in 43 hours!

A new record, folks! NKK, update the chart!

I will get on it as soon as I get home. Ironically, my lab computer does not have the windows VM to runt the software, and my home computer does.

As for those hamster wheels that are sampling...please clarify. Does that mean I can buy one now? Or do I have to wait a quarter or two? Or, can I just buy the hamster and wheel separately, but I have to assemble the final hamster-wheel product, which I can expect to take a quarter or two? O need to know. My business plan is dependent on it.

Thanks
Nkk :)

Agreed. But "imminent" can mean anything. . . . for me, an announcement being imminent means in the next 4 hours.

For someone watching a hurricane coming their way on the Weather Channel, it could mean 48 hours!

Argh. :(

and for someone who is waiting for something so bad, it appears as too long :D

anyone else notice in those benchmarks how honeycomb increases performance close to double? a tablet (Android 3.1) with tegra 2 gets equal to iphone 4s in web browser performance. Imagine what exynos with android 3.1 would get?! it would definitely beat the 4s by a large margin. I see great things incoming with ICS!! because both omap and exynos are better than tegra 2!

Well, depends on if Hamster Corp has been testing in house for their own products and withholding it from their external clients. Depends on your definition of "sampling"
