Root My Rooted Admire

Newbie
I rooted my Admire last night and made the rookie mistake of erasing the startup tone and startup animation. I am trying to figure out what the files were called exactly. I know the startup tone was in system/etc and was a .wav file. The animation was in system/media and was a .qmg file (not the samsungani but the other one). If anyone could tell me what they were called I would definitely appreciate it. Thanks guys!!!

the animation on bootup should be called bootanimation.zip... if you deleted something else.. u may be in trouble, unroot it and bring it back to metro.. try to get a replacement.. as there are no recoveries for this hpone yet.. its possible to try factory reset.. but it may or may not work..

It has always been called bootani.qmg and the other is samsungani.qmg. I know it's never had a bootanimation.zip because I have a friend with a freshly rooted Admire and it doesn't have it either. So to get back my info I just copied his and placed it back on mine. Luckily I WORK at Metro (lol) so if there had been a problem I could have just gotten another one. Am I not looking in the right place? system/media right? Or am I mistaken? And thanks so much for replying. I really appreciate it.

yes system/media is where it resides.. i personally have not owned a samsung phone.. and havent checked my friends admire since rooting it and removing bloat.. but i have had 4 android phones from 4 differant manufacturers, and they all use bootanimation.zip, odd that samsung wouldnt do the same. not saying that i dont believe you lol. you should try renaming the boot animation file you have and adding .bak to the end of it and copying it to ur sd and replacing with a bootanimation.zip and seeing if it works.. just got to make sure the images are the right size.. i will ahve to do some research on samsung.. figure out how to replace their bootanimations. do you know if the Indugle is that same way?

if u want to test the bootanimation.zip thing.. here is a link to a bootanimation that i did.. its not my work.. i just resized the images and edited the file to work for mdpi phones
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/42841380/bootanimation.zip
you can also try putting the bootanimation.zip in the data/local folder.. its a secondary place that the phone should look at when booting for an animation

So after looking at my friends admire, within the system/media folder is another folder, video, in that folder are all the pngs for the boot and shutdown animation, you should be able to replace these with the pngs from any bootanimation.zip. As far as the other videos.. I'm not sure what format they are,, I'll do more research when I get home, but if you make an animation in the right format it should work.

So would I need to extract the png's to the video file and erase the others or do I overwrite them? I've done almost all of my audio files that way (converting mp3s to oggs and using the same names to overwrite the old files) and it works like a charm. In your opinion would it be the same way or would I be able to just drop the new pngs into the old file and erase the old ones? I could do this through trial and error (I have platinum backup so everything is backed up) but I was just wondering if you knew or not. I really appreciate you writing me back on this stuff man.

no.. im not sure what file explorer your using on ur phone, i use root explorer, but when you go into the video folder, i cant remember if there is another folder inside containing the .png files.. i think they are just in the video folder, but anyway, if you just copy over those pngs with other images in sequence, you will change the boot and shutdown animation. the one that says metropcs, witht he blue ovalish thing moving, on most android phones this animation is contained ina zip file with the images and a txt file telling the system what sequence to play them in, that file may or may not exist int he video folder on your phone, im not sure as i only had a few minutes to look at my buddies phone.. we work together so i only really see him at work.. dont have much time there to check stuff out.. but if you were to say, take the images fromt he bootanimation.zip i linked above, and rename them and place them in that folder, you would effectively replace the animation sequence, the other 2 files, im not sure of the format, but if you were to open them in say photoshop or something, you could also replace the images in those as well.. im not sure how many frames they are,, from whati saw they were pretty static, once i get a change to look at my buddies phone again ill post my findings for you

I did exactly that and got nothing. As a matter of fact now I have to take the battery out to turn it off. Nothing that I haven't fixed before but yeah so far nothing has worked. I took the png's and renamed them. Nothing. Tried to add them with their own names. Same result. I'm not one to give up easily. I use Gimp (it's like a free photoshop) and I am going to attempt making a few png's to put onto my phone but so far nothing has worked. It's really too bad you don't have his Admire to work with for a while. I think you would run into the same problem but somehow be able to fix it and then get the information to me. FYI Metro PCS is coming out with the HTC Wildfire. Not the greatest phone (definitely not the Esteem) but it's going to have a 5 megapixel camera with a flash and it's going to be around the same price as the Optimus.

not sure what you need but through root explorer.... ect/poweron.wav is metro sound on bootup (witch i safely renamed)poweron.wav.bak
then
root explorer /system/media/ bootani.gmg...samsungani.qmg
theres also a folder named video... in that video folder theres another folder named shutdown/inside that folder are pics all named shutdown 1 through 30.png hope this helps

for reference instead of erasing just rename files/bloat apps/ect to end .bak example poweron.wav.bak

PS:location system/media/audio/ui if u deleat or rename shutdown.ogg when you turn phone off the screens goes black but stays back lit.. buttons still light up an will vibrate to fix just pull battery(put it back in lol) power phone on an repack an ogg file or just rename an 3 to 5 second MP3 to shutdown.ogg an repac it in system/media/audio/ui an your golden

also path.. preinstall/app/are the 3 other metro bloats vcpay/pocketexspress/loopt i safely have these renamed .bak

and (if u haven't) don't forget to move com.noshufou.android.su.apk (aka) superuser.apk from data/app/ to system/app

i moved super user to system apps why is that important? noob

apk's downloaded from market install in data/app by default.. superuser.apk is and should be a system app...the reason it needs to be moved... if u grant root privileges to an apk that app could act up causeing root privilege 2 reset or sometimes the app itself wont think the phone is rooted

(plus once moved make sure to tap it and re install )

Man I've tried a million ways to get this boot animation to work and so far no luck. I've tried to throw a bootanimation.zip file into the system/media/video file, tried to change the bootani file...ok that's only 2 ways (lol) but still nothing works. And I've yet to see anyone say they've gotten it to work. I really wish the devs would come up with a kernel or mod for the admire. It really is an awesome phone. The best Metro has come out with besides the E$teem. That one I'm going to have to wait on. I WORK for Metro and it's still a little steep for my pockets atm.
