I for one will most likely get this phone (currently with the incredible) so pretty much anything is a huge upgrade. There is still plenty that we don't know about this phone............. look and feel, weight, what it's made out of, how the curved glass will look and feel in the pocket, what the hell are those three buttons on the side.......get my point?
Still very much interested in this phone!

Not as bad as what I'm upgrading from...a SAMSUNG Rogue which no longer exists!

The only problem with your issue is it will probably always be an issue. Not just for you, but many following this thread. There will ALWAYS be the next best thing a couple months down the road and when you're ready to buy that, the next best thing will be rumored. It never ends and it's the nature of ever evolving technology.

From a pure business perspective, if Samsung wowed you with all the specs your looking for, there would be little motivation for you to buy their next device. Sadly, we are strung along for the ride. As long as enough people keep buying, the strategy will remain the same.

Btw, happy birthday to your little boy!

I think it was our own Outlaw71 who said that maybe the problem was that even if the Super Extra Duper phone were easy to make and good to price that by the time the middle layers got done pricing it -- based on features and breakthrus rather than costs -- it would be so expensive no one would be able to buy it.

I thought that was a pretty good point, too.

Happy Birthday, UBRjr! :):):):):):)

The reason all of us are so excited for the Nexus Prime is because were on Verizon, and as everyone already knows Verizon always gets the crappy end of the deal. We haven't gotten an actual great phone this year that would make us say "you know what, I actually WANT that phone". Most of us just put up with whatever Verizon gives us. Would we jump ship? Not likely since we are still getting the unlimited data (some of us) and we get amazing 4g. The prime is the first chance well get in a long time where we actually get a competetive, top end phone. Now add that to vanillas pure experience and boom! You have a keeper right there. I'm happy with the specs so far and only hope Samsung doesnt kill it with crappy build quality. The battery life seems really good actually.

For everyone else not on Verizon you may be expecting more, and that's fine. But we Verizon customers will be happy knowing that at least this time we weren't thrown under the bus. Everyone else who gets the better phone selection that Verizon may not get, be happy. And for those of you who this applies to its more than likely you guys will get a better spec'd phone in the future, be it the GsIII or whatever. But for those of us limited to Verizon this is like a dream come true.

Also another device will always be just around the corner, but it just so happens that corner is a LOT longer for Verizon than all the other carriers

I agree and those who are grandfathered with unlimited data like myself and who live in a city that will get LTE on Nov. 17th I will be happy upgrading from my OG Droid to the Nexus with it being unlocked and bloat free...how can I pass this one up.

As far as there being a new device on Verizon next year that will have better specs...I am sure that is correct, and because my son is a Verizon employee and I'm on his plan I will be able to get that new phone one year after I get the Prime!

Bring it on!:D

they're dock pins! :)

can't wait to get a car dock for the prime. will be an excellent navigation system

What I basically said right? meaning place in a dock for contact charging (dock app pops up) instead of having to plug in the micro usb right? And I agree it is nice to have especially if the car dock has integrated Bluetooth to play music/navi instead of having to connect the phone directly to the aux cable

right. was just expanding on it so it didn't look like you only meant that it was just for charging. :)

Whatever happened to built in fm transmitters? Now there's some functionality

I remember some Nokia phone had it...can't remember exactly which one I think it was the n900

HTC Incredible after CM7 has FM Radio support.

I think its built into a lot of hardware (or easily enabled), just not by the manufacturers/software developers.

iOS uses cooperative multitasking, much like Win95/98.

Win95 used preemptive multitasking, but previous DOS-based versions didn't. :p

And... I'll go out on a limb and say that I can't imagine iOS itself isn't also preemptive. Yeah I know the google links talk about cooperative multitasking on iOS, but I'd bet that applies to the top level apps and not the operating system itself. Otherwise I don't think the OS could handle smooth audio and video and all of the other real-time device operations that need instant response.

The rumored and generally agreed spec on Prime now might be looking somewhat underwhelming for some. I agree that it's not as groundbreaking as SGS2 did when it launched oversea. But it's still good enough for me and faster than any other android now. We should keep in mind that this is a very rare opportunity that Verizon is getting Nexus device and we have no idea when will be the next time for Verizon nexus. Samsung's bread and butter line is Galaxy S, but it takes long while to land in America.

Haha! Of course I'll hold final judgement for the actual announcement. I think what has me down is that when the rumor of the 4460 was "cemented" by our source, and micro sd didn't look like a viable option...people started excusing it.

Yes, with the latest rumored specs, it will be a great phone...that will be beaten (marginally) in a couple of months. That's my issue.

I don't blame them. But when was the last time we were "wow'ed"? I wanna be wow'ed! You think of these people that get to work for these companies and decide to skimp instead of innovate...it's disheartening.

You are probably right on the hardware side.

But what gives the Galaxy Nexus the "wow" factor is ice cream sandwich. You will always have the freshest version of Android. Even if others have better hardware specs, they will be waiting 6 months behind you to receive their updates with a bloated skin on top.

I was just thinking....is there any phone that Verizon currently offers or is rumored to be offering this year that meets or exceeds the nexus prime....I can't think of one, so what other option do I have? Like I said if one comes along by next summer or fall then I'll just get that one, employee accounts get upgrades every 10-12 months.

How could you possibly know this? I am not trying to be contrary, I would just like to know.

Have you used the the 4460 on a phone? Has anyone? Has anyone used ICS with its new hardware acceleration yet? It seems silly to state with confidence anything about the performance of a CPU that no one has used yet. I know the GPU is of particular concern to you, but until you actually USE it, I don't see any point in guessing how good it is or how long it will remain relevant...

Fact that 4460 hasn't been in any phone yet is irrelevant because it's merely a 4430 clocked higher, so we have a good clue how it performs.

Anand has some nice comparisons.

Except isn't the gpu running at 380 vs 200 in the 4430?

Edit: 304 to 384. Still should be a nice performance bump.

Graph update please?

As requested.

I have to say guys, my Google News Alerts for "Samsung Prime" are pretty crappy compared to this thread. Thanks for keeping me up-to-date!

Wow. This is great! Squares up with what Steven's source said earlier. Heavy, heavy usage and 4 - 6 hours? That's unbelievable. I can't even do that on my OG Droid.

I don't know where you're getting thtat it's a year old CPU. It hasn't been used in any phone yet. Also, from concept to mass production, I'd be shocked if any CPU on the market wasn't 8 - 10 months out.

There will always be a better, faster, crisper device around the corner. As soon as we snatch this up, SGS 3 will be rumored and spec'd.

However, and this is a BIG however, I don't know when I will get another chance for a pure, vanilla, Google-updated phone on Verizon. It may never come again.

I'm snatching this up faster than a I'd grab a baby falling out of a window!

This. This is why I will be doing everything in my power to buy this phone on day one. Bye-bye OG droid.

btw I've been lurking this thread for far too long, time to finally chime in.

I CAN'T WAIT

Long time lurker, first time poster. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread, I appreciate the insight and opposing viewpoints many of you provide. Now to the meat and potatoes.

First I apologize if this had been brought up yet but do you all remember that the Droid Bionic was originally supposed to be Tegra 2? It was later switched to the OMAP 4430 because it was rumored that the Tegra 2 did not play nice with LTE.
Now I have no idea as to the legitimacy of that claim but supposing it IS true, is it possible that the Exynos has the same problem? Maybe that is why VZW passed on the GS2 and why Samsung is giving them exclusivity, and why there are two rumored devices with two different rumored specs. I know many have brought up the possibility of a Droid Galaxy Nexus and a Nexus Prime, this could help give credence to this idea. Add that to the fact that the leaked Samsung roadmap had the i9250, or whatever it was, slated to be released in late november early december. That would give VZW some exclusivity time with the Driod Galaxy Nexus while compensating the other carriers for waiting by giving them the GSMarena specs.

I'm still not sure if it is reasoned thinking or daydreaming but that's my two cents. What do you guys think of my pie in the sky idea?

Sheeshh this thread is a rollercoaster. One minute everyone is drooling over the device and the next proclaiming it a massive flop. I don't know what to think anymore...
