***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

My only problem with the VZW phone not being a Nexus is that it means the first phone with ICS will not be a Nexus, and that seems to be hard to believe.

We on VZW have to accept that:
1 The phone is a Nexus and will come out soon (YAY)
OR
2 The phone will come out soon, but will not be a Nexus and thus (at least by my logic) will not have ICS
OR
3 We wait until the rest of the world gets a Nexus, and then we get something that may or may not be Vanilla but will be ICS

-Nkk
Well there were rumors that each carrier would get a flagship ics device so if thats the case then this fits that perfectly.

Hmmm... unless black_man_x is yanking us around (which maybe, who knows), it looks like he's saying there really is another version for other carriers with perhaps superior specs to come later (GSM Arena specs?) Also, is he saying that Verizon's version is not a Nexus or is he saying that the other carriers' versions are not Nexus? I'm confused.

He's telling you to calm down. I suggest we all take that advice :)
All he's saying is that there's another non-Nexus device with good specs coming Q1 2012. Surprise, surprise, we all knew that. Just like there's one coming Q2 2012. And Q1 2013... 2014... etc. Nobody panic.

I just hope & pray they stream the Hong Kong event live online so we can go on a high-speed roller coaster ride...

"That sucks!"
"But that's great!"
"When's it gonna be released on Verizon?"
"It doesn't have WHAT?"
"It has WHAT?"
"I'm thoroughly DONE with Verizon, Google AND Samsung. No Prime for me. I'm out of here. Forever. Good bye."
"This phone's gonna rock!"
"Is AT&T getting one?"
"I can hardly wait!"

;)
:D

Guys, I'll start by saying no one knows until we know BUT:

All signs point to the Verizon phone being a true Nexus. P3 said the NP would be a real Nexus and then remember the system app dump from him a couple of weeks ago? You could say it was fake, but what about the leaked wallpapers and leaked audio? He's getting the files from somewhere.

Vz_wired has said that we'd be VERY happy with the phone. As much conversation has gone on about will it be or won't it be and will Verizon get it or not, do you really believe he'd say that if the phone was bloated?

Remember Steve's source saying yesterday that Verizon was possibly a little peeved because Samsung and Google were handling the marketing of the device? What would you infer from that?

Not saying I'm right, but I'm saying the phone will be pure Nexus - and there's only one phone with the same specs. Period. At least if you believe the "sources" out there...

I'm going to say the verizon version wont be a true nexus and will just essentially be something to get ics out to the masses with. I think the phone he is talking to will be the true nexus. I could be wrong but with verizon and their history I could see it being that way.

Ah... is this going be like when Droid brought Android 2.0 to the world without being a true "Nexus" product??

The slashgear article goes on to say at the end that the chip will be sampled 2nd half of 2011. Not saying it is going to happen but we can't rule it out definitively either. That could be why the phone is a "beast", was the phone slated to win the gaming award at CITA, and be "ahead of the curve" it could be they even underclocked it 1.5 to help quench the thirst for battery.

Point is all I'm saying is if everything is set for the phone and TI happened to make the 4470 available for Google why wouldn't they jump at the chance to put it in the phone if a chip swap is easy?

I know what you are saying, but the business world doesn't work that way. I'm sure Ti would love every chance to get one of thier flagship products (although OMAP 5 series is around the corner too :D) into a product right now, but reality interfers with that.

You guys don't have to take my word for it, and don't have to rely on pseudo reports like slashgear. Get is strait from Texas Instruments. They have the full datasheets, design guides, and everything you wanted to know. They say sampling in Q1 2012. And they are the experts on when they release thier product.

Also sampling in the IC world means they are giving limited numbers or pre-production chips to customers for testing purposes. Often, the chip has errata (bugs), may not even be the same package or size. Customers are aware of this, and gladly take the samples so they can start the design. Keep in mind, the sample date for the OMAP 4460 was Q1 2011!!! We are not seeing a product with that SoC until now. At best, 6 mos before it actually gets into a product.

Right now, I'm guessing that Exynos 4212 won't find it's way into a product for another 6 mos. I'll be the first one to admit if I'm wrong, but don't expect product until Q2 2012.

This conspiracy nonsense about keeping chips in-house vs public sales is just that, wishfull thinking. I'm not trying to be harsh, it's just reality. As much as I'd like to see the Exynos 4212, it won't happen.

Remember Steve's source saying yesterday that Verizon was possibly a little peeved because Samsung and Google were handling the marketing of the device? What would you infer from that?

Here's what I infer: Verizon is FURIOUS that Samsung and Google are going to market the heck out of this phone when Verizon wanted to tuck it away in a corner somewhere so THEY could push the RAZR... made by Motorola, their preferred OEM. Now Verizon's going to have to put Prime on at least an even footing, even though it'll be unencrypted and with none of their bloatware. Heck, they won't even control the updates! And THAT'S why, I believe, they're "peeved".

You are wrong. He already said the new device coming in the 1st Quarter isn't a Nexus.

And 1st Quarter is 3 months away. We're 3 weeks away from November 3. Don't ya think it makes sense that the 1st quarter device has better specs?

well right now I have love hate with cm 7. It doesn't work all the time for me get some force closes . Well I lime prime more also but don't know if I can wait till spring when it will be an four or five month old phone

If it forced closed on me a lot i would stop using it too. That's why I stopped flashing nightlies.

I don't see how that would be very hard to believe considering the Droid2 was the first device to ship with Froyo, and that certainly wasn't a Nexus device.

I personally do believe that the device coming to Verizon is a Nexus device, since the tester versions have shown to have no bloatware or skin.

Samsung might advertise it quite a bit, but what in Google's history has shown that they're going to advertise anything?

Good insight, but surely the Nexus will be a huge seller for Verizon!

Don't get me wrong, Mate: Verizon will make millions selling it. But they want something else that they don't get with Prime:

CONTROL.

They don't control the phone, the stuff that's on it, or the updates. And that's what Motorola lets them do, which is why they're Verizon's pet manufacturer.

Interesting theory... do you really think Verizon is capable of such self-sabotage? Are they that in love with stuff like V-cast??

That's probably why the phone is called the Galaxy Nexus and not the Nexus Prime. Sumsung knows how to market phones better.

I never said the newer device shouldn't have better specs. I am sure the verizon version will be second rate and something will be done to it like all the other phones. But 3 weeks we will see.

Off to the races with another 10 pages about this other att device being a better Nexus lol.

Then another 10 pages of people informing the others who are still buying it thats it's not true he was talking about another phone.
