Im trying to get adb setup on my evo and i just cant seem to get it working. I downloaded the sdk manager java and usb drivers as well as followed several tutorials on the net and the one over on xda and still cant seem to get it working. Im sure that IM doing something wrong. Right now im uninstalling sdk manager and i want to start from scratch so if anyone can point to an adb for dummies tutorial I would appreciate it. Im running W7 x86 and i have the latest going green rom on my evo if that helps. thxin advance.

[TUTORIAL/HOW TO] Basics of ADB - xda-developers
[GUIDE] ADB Workshop and Guide for everyone - xda-developers

Thx ill take a look at those

Those are the guides that I originally used but im stuck at getting it to recognize my phone when i plug it and when i type adb device in command prompt it says not recognized.

does your computer see your phone at all?

also try and reboot your phone as well.

I can plug my phone in to charge or use as a disk drives to moves files on/off of it if thats what you mean

usb debugging is on and i just rebooted my phone im just waiting on the sdk to finish downloading all the files again since i uninstalled and started from scratch again.

Something else im not clear on is if im supposed to boot into recovery then plug my phone up to the pc to get it to see my phone and transfer whatever files that are supposed to be transfered?

nope that should not be necessary. just make sure that the phone is on and that you have usb debugging on.

Well i did the steps again and if i set my evo to debug and charge only it shows up in device manager as my htc but i cant get to adb in command prompt. Im sure im not doing something correctly i just dont know what.

this is what i get from last update of sdk manager

Downloading Android SDK Platform-tools, revision 7
Installing Android SDK Platform-tools, revision 7
'adb kill-server' failed -- run manually if necessary.
Installed Android SDK Platform-tools, revision 7
'adb kill-server' succeeded.
ADB: * daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
'adb start-server' succeeded.
ADB: * daemon started successfully *

In cmd it keeps telling me "adb is not an internal or external command, operable program or batch file" if that helps.

so what happens when you type:cd c:\android-sdk\tools\?

"system cannot find path specified" at first i had it saved in cd>program files x86> android>android-sdk but now i moved it to the root of the C drive

ok so i took the sdk out of the android folder and placed it on the root of C drive where it says android-sdk then opened up cmd and typed 'cd c:\android-sdk\tools\' which brought back ' c:\android-sdk\tools>

Ok im still not getting anywhere and i really want to figure this out in i need to use adb for something in the future so bare with me. Im wondering if im having a problem since i downloaded the sdk manager a couple of times now and i might have files on top of files. Ive been moving it around in the directories also so now im thoroughly confused lol. Im not really worried about jacking up the pc bcuz i can always restore but i have followed the tutorials pretty closely and i believe its on the pc but maybe not in the right directory. when i plug in my phone nothing happens, meaning i have yet to see any adb files being pushed to my phone.

when i plug the phone in i see 2 entries for my phone in device manager,

the first one says
android usb devices
my htc

the second entry is under disk drives and says,
htc android phone usb device

Ok so i just downloaded the all in one from the adb for dummies thread on xda and got adb to see my device so im just wondering if the prior install i had which is right above it on the C drive will cause any conflicts when i try to do anything in adb.

sorry i could not answer you in time, but looks like you figured it out. i was going to suggest that. i'm relatively new to adb myself. as far i think that you should be ok, but if you want you could unstall it just in case.
