I have some thoughts on this, and I tend to disagree with some of you.....and think that BOTH phones WILL launch on the same day.

I'm gonna say that the MAP list is accurate for both phones based on the other phones listed, and their respectful launch dates and MAP dates. Earlier in the week or last week, I read one article/rumor speculation that was saying that Verizon was a little upset because they were possibly being left out of all the marketing on the Nexus. There was also another article that rumored the Nexus could possibly launch exclusively at Best Buy. (Didn't this happen with the Nexus S? At launch and early release of the phone, it had to be bought at BB and you couldn't get it in a Sprint store right away?) I'm also trying to think back to the Nexus One. Could you buy the Nexus One during the early release at T-Mobile or was it exclusively purchased from Google? I can't quite remember. Anyway, it's possible that the VW Galaxy Nexus may be exclusively launched via Best Buy or Google only. I can highly see this happening, if we don't see Verizon doing any advertising. (I guess we'll know more next week.) Plus, we all know how VW loves bloatware! Nothing needs to said about that! So, if this were to turn out all true, then I completely understand why Verizon would want to launch the Rezound side-by-side with the Nexus. The Nexus wouldn't be generating any foot traffic into stores; they can't sell accessories to go with the Nexus; can't upsell customers on their packages; and don't collect what little money they collect on the subsidized phones.

To me, this all makes perfect sense, from Verizon's point-of-view. Thoughts?

original nexus could only be order OFF-contract at first. its the reason NO ONE bought it. it wasn't subsidized at all.

futhermore, no matter what, vzw will get all the money from data plans (where most of their money comes from)
I do however agree that they be a little put out if in fact they are not allowed to advertised and/or BB gets an exclusive selling it at first. But no matter what they still get their share no matter how the phone is sold

just dont see them coming out on the same day, possibly not even within the 14 day return period from each other.....

way i see it is NO way will they release it before the nexus, they dont want anything stopping people from getting nexus AND dont thing they will release on same day.....

I agree that it would be strange to release both phones on the same day- just like the MAP period relating to the launch dates, I can't remember Verizon launching two flagship level devices at the same time.

As far as competition goes, why do you think that Verizon doesn't want competition for the Nexus on its own network? I'm not trying to argue, just curious. The way I see it, I'm not sure it matters to Verizon whether someone buys the Nexus or Rezound- in theory Verizon should make the same amount on the sale of either handset at full or subsidized pricing, and a new/extended contract as a result of the purchase of either device would be the same.

Also, wouldn't more options be better in terms of luring subs from other networks? Someone who would get the Rezound might not get the Nexus, and vice versa. Although the hardware specs are similar, the user experience looks like it will be much different between the two devices at launch.

FWIW, there are rumblings within the dev and tester communities that NP will not be the only ICS device to launch on Verizon before the end of the year. There have been speciffic allusions to Motorola and HTC hardware in discussing this. If true, I think this would also be a factor being considered by Verizon in pushing both of these phones to market quickly.

The good news is that we shouldn't have to wait too long to get official word on this either way.

I read the same rumors. I agree, and think a simultaneous release makes sense from Verizon's point of view if they are true.

Still, I understand the doubt out there given the way that Verizon has typically handled high-end device launches in the past. The thing is, there has never been a Nexus device on Verizon before, so we are in uncharted territory in terms of how that device is marketed with respect to Verizon's other phones.

Though it would be nice if it released sooner, if not I hope the Nov 10th date holds true. HP and the deathly hallows pt 2 releases on Bluray Nov 11th, I will be hopefully looking forward to watching my digital copy while I'm at work...on my new phone...with the bigger screen! LOL

Do you think it will be available for preorder online? I like to order online because the discounts are built in but I would like it on launch day, but if i have to wait a day, I suppose i will live! LOL

Why isn't the samsung stratosphere on the MAP list that just released on Thursday? But the Bionic still is on it and the Samsung Prime is.....

I think this was asked earlier or in another thread, and the response was that MAP does not apply to mid-level devices. The Stratosphere is certainly that. I don't have knowledge of Verizon's policies, but this certainly makes sense to me.

I'm just curious...if you believe they won't launch on the same day, do you think one of them will come out sooner, or that the Vigor will come out later than the November 10 date? Thanks.

I'd love to be watching a HD movie on my new phone on 11/11 too!

I would think that Verizon would announce and begin with pre-orders at least a week to ten days before launch. I hope this is the case because I would rather buy online and get an instant discount as well. Who knows with Verizon though, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Good question. If Night is correct and Verizon launches these phones on separate days, I agree with him that the Nexus will probably be launched before the Vigor. This isn't based on any information I have seen or heard, just a gut feeling.

Thankfully the decision of which phone to get is a no brainer for me. I am totally soured on the Samsung name due to the purchase of 2 Samsung TV's that were nothing but problems. We still have our 50" DLP, but it's 7 yrs old, we spent $500 bucks to fix it last year <yeah, I know, don't ask> and it is slowly starting to have the same problem it had last year of shutting off, which means the color wheel is most likely going again. This will be the 3rd time, and we are just waiting for Black Friday/Christmas season and the TV will finally be replaced. Will never buy anything with the Samsung name on it ever again!

Is the $299 price tag alarming to anyone? Not so much for me, though I wish it was only $199. since I'm not at the end of my contract, I can upgrade, but not with the extra $50 discount. Wouldn't be able to do that till February, and I'm not waiting that long! LOL

Lol. Don't even get me started on the Samsung Plasma TVs we had to return last year...got one, main board failed within a week, exchanged it for another, that one had a main board failure within the following week. Needless to say, that one was replaced with a Panasonic. No Samsung anything for me in the future.

It's sad, but I'll take this one for $299. I thought that Verizon would use the Beats tech/earphones to jack the price up to $349 or more. $199 would certainly be better though. I won't get my NE2 unless I wait until the end of December. Not gonna happen.

I think there is a reason they are always one of the cheaper tv's on the market! LOL I have my eye on an LG 55" smartv! Hoping it has a good price at xmas time. Have $100 bb gift card from when I bought a new laptop, and $150 in bb rewards waiting to get the cost down some more!

I think our NE2 discount is only $50.00 now isn't it? I think I can pretty much get a phone every year because I do all my billing and stuff online. I think i am grandfathered into this. my ne2 discount doesn't kick in till 2/22, and my contract ends on 4/28. I have been eligible to upgrade though for a few months at the regular 2 yr contract price. The DH contract ends on 6/18, but he is eligible to upgrade on 2/18 this seems more the norm these days.

Having just gone through the TV thing, I have some info in the LG stuff too. If you want me to share what I found out, send me a PM and I'd be happy to discuss it.

Didn't Verizon end 1-year upgrades? I thought those who had one when they changed policy could use it, but after that, no more (just like NE2)?

Will do that!

It's the only thing that explains why I have an upgrade. I actually added a line to get the Incredible. Paid for the extra line for a few months until the amount of the extra line would have been more than the termination fee. and cancelled my original line because i liked the new number better. that is why my contract date is now April 28th. but my loyalty discount seems to be based off of my old phone number.

I don't think i will call them to find out! :D

I think it would be sammy/htc that wouldnt want them released on the same day, i agree that vzw wouldn't really care....

And trust me, i could be totally wrong. just my 2 cent guess:D

I think the vigor makes more sense to come first, BUT it would have to be SOON... that or it will/would be more than 14 days later, again, just a guess....

I see it just being easier if it isn't the same day..

Again, i dont care, just give me the vigor damnit!

They ended them but as long as you were on the same contract before jan 2011 you had one more you could use... that the same thing i'm waiting to use, mines been available since 6/24 (exactly one year after i got my Inc) i *think* after that it will be every 20 months no matter what

1. If you're right, and the rumors about Verizon not being too thrilled with Samsung right now are true, hopefully Verizon says eff Samsung and gives us our Vigor soon and without regard to the Nexus!:D

2. Verizon can call this phone whatever it wants; it will always be Vigor to me!

3. That's what I thought...I've been hanging on to mine since March just waiting for an HTC dual-core Android monster. It looks like my wait is almost over!

On the TV front, my brother got a 42" Samsung LCD TV in April 2008, I got my LG 42" LCD in may of 2008. His gets less use than mine does, which is around 12-16 hours a day (work from home now and keep it on in the background). Two months ago he had to have his mainboard and power supply replaced (luckily he had ext. warranty). Mine is still going strong.

As far as the $299 for LTE phones, I got into an argument on a blog today about this. The first poster said it costs if you're gonna be on the bleeding edge of technology. The second poster said that the EVO was on the bleeding edge and was only $199 at launch. I brought up that along with the $199 price tag, there was also the $10/month charge for WiMax whether you were in coverage or not, which amounts to $240 on a 2 year contract. That's a difference of $140 over the contract period (vs. Verizon), which is 7/10 of the way to a $199 phone.

For me, I'd rather pay them an extra $100 up front rather than $240 over 2 years. Yes the $10/month doesn't make quite a dent on the checkbook since it's over time. But I'd rather take a one time hit rather than pay over double that over time. To me it's like taking out a loan with a 30% interest rate.

Basically this is VZW's version of an LTE tax. They've still got a ways to go on the LTE build out so they do need the capital. I just hope that after the build out is done that the prices come down to where they were last year. This up front charge will hurt for a bit, but these cell carriers get enough of my money already, they don't need anymore.

You guys are getting off topic, but....

I've had a Samsung LCD 52" since 2007 without any issues at all; and it runs probably on average, 16-20 hours per day.

There are always going to be some bad apples in the batch, and I'm going to go out on a limb without researching and presume that both LG and Samsung are likely ISO 9000 compliant. So the defects you get, are unfortunately that 1% or so bad ones. Just FYI, if you've got an LCD/LED from LG, then your TV is made by a bunch of Mexican's in Reynosa, Mexico across the border from McAllen, TX. I used to drive by all the plants that everyone has down, when I had to do some work for a client. I recall LG, Panasonic, Black & Decker but there were a whole bunch of companies there using that cheap labor.
